Book 10 – Dead in the Family News

Charlaine Harris has just confirmed on her forum that the first chapter of Dead in the Family will be up on her website some time in the next 10 days. Dead in the Family is the tenth book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries series, and is due for release in early May 2010.

Harris traditionally releases the cover art and the first chapter of her next book for fans in December of each year. The covers always drop clues to key scenes in the book so I’m itching to see it. Harris recently revealed on her blog that the next cover is “sparkly” and sapphire blue “like Eric’s eyes”. [Me thinks after everything she’s said about Eric lately she is grovelling in our direction. She kills me].

Ms Harris,
Is there going to be any “formal” acceptance from Sookie that she and Eric are married? I know that she stated that the ceremony she and Eric had she and the state of LA do not recognize it but I was just wondering if she does accept it.

You know you’re going to have to wait until the next book to find out more about Sookie’s reaction to the marriage. And I’ll put up the beginning of the next book within the next week and a half. The question about the timing of the next book is harder to answer, since the first pages of it skip over several weeks, hitting down every now and then.

I’ve been checking her site religiously every day since late November – to finally have confirmation of a date has made my day. We’re going to be raking over this thing with a microscope for days probably! Sounds like fun? Oh yes.

Do you really think CH is doing anything different than she planned regarding Eric? I know the storyline with him and Sookie has dragged out a bit for us, but it hasn’t actually been that long in book time. And in my opinion, except for Sookie, Eric has always seemed like CH’s favorite character.

Either way, super excited to get even just a taste of Sookie and Eric’s sapphire blues 🙂

I don’t think she has changed tack with Eric…and I don’t think she will 😉
I’m a “true believer” based on what she’s put on the page that Eric was the HEA from the start and that she will deliver in the end. Sometimes I get frustrated with the things she says in interviews but really, when you take all of that away it’s clear where she steering the story (to me anyway!)

The comment about the grovelling was more in reference to some of the things she’s said in interviews and on her forum since Alan Ball put his foot in it about Bill. She really came out kicking Eric to counteract it and oh boy…it didn’t go down well.

Yeah, as I’ve probably said before, I was a little dismayed and saddened by CH’s offhand remarks of our Viking. As Gigi said, she should probably lay it on thick if she doesn’t want to alienate Eric fans. Or even just book fans in general… the whole thing seems a little flighty for my liking. As if she doesn’t really invest a lot of emotion or feeling into her characters. Which is just bizarre more than anything.

OMG I am the biggest stalker of your blog!!! You probably want to put an AVO out on me!!!

No not at all! It’s great that we’re starting to get a group of “regulars” here dropping by every day and commenting, I love it.
It would be wonderful to get a real community going with lots of viewpoints and discussion…that’s what I want to see!

Besides, your Quinn snark makes me LOL 😉

I wish I could track down all my comments and see how many times I’ve lashed out at Quinn (and Bill for that matter!). I almost feel sorry for them.

Hehe, I’m not sure but I think I can count myself in the running too, lol. I don’t always leave a comment, but I do check every day just about for a new update. But its nice to have an environment where we can squeal over Eric, diss Bill and Quinn, and moan about interviews with AB and CH without being judged. ;D Ah, well, you know what they say about birds of a feather…

Or without hearing “This Is Not The Books!!!” every time you open your mouth.

You know why I started this blog? I post on a few forums around the place and as you can imagine I am quite vocal and forthright in my opinions! Most of them are True Blood related and while I enjoy the show I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect people who have read the books and love them to ignore everything they know. It’s just unrealistic and stupid – because for all the bagging we do of TB, Ball does draw some things verbatim from the books and plots, characters etc are based on them. So to leave them out of any speculation is to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I was so sick to death of hearing that I thought screw it….I’ll start my own blog when I can say what I bloody well like LOL.

I appreciate the crossover the other way, too. I started out on the CH forums, so it’s nice to be able to talk about the books and about TB (and enjoy some yummy SKARSporn)–in an Eric-friendly environment.

It’s funny. I actually saw the seasons of TB first. And even w/o reading the books Eric was so much more appealing than Bill as a character. So, to feed my Eric fix, and because I couldn’t wait to find out what happens with him, I picked up the books– and was delighted to find that he is so much more complex in the books.

It was nice to take that depth back to the episodes and watch again. And nice, as I reread the series for the upteenth time, to have the (short-haired) ASkars to picture in scene.

My ramblings on the Sookie Stackhouse books, and the HBO series True Blood. Everyone I know is already half crazed with my plot and character assassinations, conspiracy theories, theme explorations and general obsessing, so now I'm going to share it all with you. Spoilers and Viking worship are rampant...you have been warned!
