First Season 3 Cast Pic

Kristin Bauer has just posted this on her Facebook page.

UPDATE: Hi res official promo poster added. Click for large size.

Kristin mentioned on Twitter a few weeks back that the cast were doing promotional shots, so expect individual character shots any day now.

I’m not commenting about the colour of Eric’s hair. I will just continue to spit bile and roll my eyes, in silence.

Of much more interest is the big, fat serpent that appears to have parked itself right next to Sookie and Bill.

There is definitely a whole “Garden of Eden” thing going on here.

Good versus Evil.

Temptation and lies.

With a dirty big snake all up in Sookie’s business.

Love it.

I just love Kristin doing stuff like this for us!!!

And it’s an awesome picture… I too noticed the hair, but quickly looked over it. The serpent is the big sign.. i wonder what the BL will say to that.

Are Jessica and Pam making eyes at each other. And what is with Tara and Sam front on with each other

    • April 27, 2010 at 4:15 am

YAY.. my first ‘first’… *happy dance*

Anyho… Eric, Sookie and Billy are the only ones looking straight at the camera.. Laffy looks to be making eyes with Pam, how in turn is looking at Jessica (who is looking back at her). Jason is looking off to the right, and Tara & Sam are looking in the sam direction.

    That’s a big snake there.

Should we start talking about the red hair again? LOL!

Hi! I’ve been lurking around this site for a couple of months now, and love all the insightful discussion!

there’s so much in this pic! the snake! Eric looking as if he’s about to pounce on sookie! Jessica and Pam in the same colour! jason’s distrustful look at Lafayette! can’t wait to read everyone’s dissection!! 🙂

Has anyone noticed the wolf behind Eric? Interesting way to introduce Alcides…

I think it’s interesting that Eric – or at least someone who look like Eric but has strangely dark hair – is at the focal point of the picture.

  6. April 27, 2010 at 4:16 am

Is it just me or does this promo photo make it seem like Eric is *the* central character of this season?

Also, what’s with the wolf by Eric? I guess that’s Alcide?

    • April 27, 2010 at 4:18 am

Oooh! And I just noticed there’s a human skull juxtapositioned with Jessica and Sookie’s legs-foreshadowing that *both* of them will kill this season?

      Nope, not just you.

      • April 27, 2010 at 4:20 am

He he, we’re all replying at the same time! 🙂

I like the fact that Eric is definitely *between* Alcide and Sookie, and that he’s so far in the background in comparison. 🙂 Gives me hope… Even though AB said E/S shippers wouldn’t be necessarily happy with this season.

        • April 27, 2010 at 4:23 am

I coudln’t care less about E/S… as long as Eric gets the good scenes and is giving us what we love about him

          When did he say that?

          • April 27, 2010 at 4:30 am

Mmmm… It would take me a while to find the source, but in an interview he said neither B/S or E/S shippers would be fully happy with this season. Which, is fine with me really-I agree with Dazed that more Eric is the key. And no more B/S is all I’m really looking for out of this season… to set up S4 AE!!!

              April 27, 2010 at 4:49 am

I read that too and also read an interview with the other writers and they said that Eric and Sookie aren’t a couple until much much later in the books. They don’t understand why fans think they should be together already. I think they just don’t understand what fans want, even as Eric fans we’re not saying that have to be in a serious relationship already. We just don’t want to see Sookie hate Eric and want to see the bond between them, the flirting, joking around and them saving eachother.

So I wonder if by his statement he just expects we will be unhappy bc E/S wont be together as a couple. I think we’ll be happy about other things though.

            • April 27, 2010 at 5:10 am

              Here’s the link: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/01/08/true-blood-alan-ball-season-three/

The article starts off with: “According to True Blood creator Alan Ball, whether you’re a fan of Bill and Sookie or Sookie and Eric, season 3 of the HBO hit is sure to make you very unhappy. ”

*However* (and I sadly didn’t remember this from when I read this article months ago) it’s not in quotation marks, so it looks like that may be the columnist perspective on the matter of Alcide being introduced.

And here’s the quote I think Dee mentioned:

“You know what’s funny is that he’s in the first two books, he’s a fairly minor character in Sookie’s universe,” Tucker said. “There’s a lot of fan pressure that they’re supposed to be this big romantic thing, which actually in Charlaine [Harris]’s books doesn’t happen until much, much further down. I think if we did that, we’d probably bore them all to death. I think part of the magic of Eric is some of the mystery of Eric and the inaccessibility of Eric. I think you don’t want to turn them into the nice romantic love interest who’s in every scene. I think his danger is important so not just throwing him up whenever somebody wants to see his bare chest is actually a more disciplined approach.

I don’t have a direct link for that interview unfortunately, but the source quoted in that FB post was SciFiWire.com

If you are looking for lots of interviews, this FB post has a *ton* of them at the beginning and lots of casting information (most of which is old news at this point): http://www.facebook.com/#!/topic.php?uid=69144888562&topic=13370 (If that link doesn’t work, go to the Discussion Board on the official Facebook True Blood page, and look for the thread titled “SEASON THREE NEWS””

Well this makes sense I think. It’s something they have to work up to as they build the sexual tension between them. That will make it much more interesting when it finally does happen, which is true.

                  April 27, 2010 at 2:15 pm

I agree with you VL…it is the sexual tension that the flirting and sassy banter creates that makes us WANT to see Eric and Sookie together. That is my biggest complaint about TB up until now…Eric hasn’t been particularly witty or cute (when interacting with Sookie) and APs hostility toward him is NOT what we see in the books. No, I won’t be disappointed if they aren’t a confirmed couple at the end of this season, as long as they are friendly and Sookie trusts him (as she did at the end of LDID.

I personally think this is all going to change in S3 – especially since Eric and Sookie will be working together to find Bill. They’re already starting to show his flirty/humorous side in just that one little snippet in the minisode.

Yeah i just want to see the great romantic interactions and banter from the books. They dont have to hook up this season. Just give us a little something.

I don’t normally get up in arms over what the writers say, but this really annoyed for two reasons: 1) we don’t just want to see his bare chest (although, I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice), and 2) you’re going to make the show better by giving us less of the character we most want to see, while other characters are shoved down our throats all the time? Why not just try for balance instead?

Though I agree that there should be a gradual build-up to Eric/Sookie’s relationship. Anticipation makes it that much sweeter. 😉

I love, Eric, being front and center. Hmmm are they trying to hint at Pam and Jessica? Both wear same color dress like mentioned already and look at the way they’re looking at eachother.

        April 27, 2010 at 4:28 am

I know Pam is gonna have a female lover and some said it would be Jessica but I just didn’t believe that. Jessica annoyed Pam but who knows maybe she’ll grow on Pam haha.

        • April 27, 2010 at 4:33 am

Well, Jessica has changed a *lot* since she was first made. Maybe esp. since she’s (apparently) been killing people, she’ll be more appealing to Pam?

        • 48 dsm
          April 27, 2010 at 1:45 pm

I don’t see Jessica becoming Pam’s romantic interest this season. I’m hoping, however, that Pam takes Jessica under her wing a bit this season. With Bill’s absence Jessica will be on the loose on her own (and clearly Fing stuff up). I think Eric will step in and ask Pam to watch her while they search for Bill. Should make for some interesting scenes.

        • 49 EricObsessed
          April 27, 2010 at 7:31 pm

I think they’re dressed alike because Jessica will become Pam’s protege in Bill’s absence. I don’t think Jessica would appeal to Pam, she’s too young and inexperienced for someone like her. And think of Jessica’s character, she’d love to be just like Pam. And tell me wouldn’t she rather have Pam showing her how to be a vamp than Stupid Bill?

          • April 27, 2010 at 9:28 pm

I really hope Pam takes her under her wing. Jessica lucked out on the maker stakes, so having Pam helping her out would be awesome. Pam, like her own maker Eric, are how vampire should be: Strong , loyal and actually happy about their un-dead life.

    • April 27, 2010 at 4:25 am

What are those plants that look like erect phalluses behind Lafayette? Wonder what they mean?

    • April 27, 2010 at 4:28 am

Oooh! Great call! I’m guessing that means Laffy gets his mojo back finally and gets it ON a lot. Woo hoo! 🙂 I’d love to have him more back to his old self.

Also, I think Lafayette is just looking warily at Pam and Eric, which makes sense… Though maybe with the phalli, we end up seeing some sex dreams between L&E? *shrugs* I can’t imagine Eric hooking up with Lafayette in the actual storyline-he didn’t seem particularly impressed with him at all.

      • April 27, 2010 at 4:31 am

I agree the look from Laffy is to Eric, not pam.. So maybe that is foreshadowing a sex dream… which AS has stated he has down (graphic in nature with a male)

Yes, that pose is a variation of one they have used quite a few times actually.

I like the symbolism in this, but I’m not impressed that it very much feels like Season 2 – with all the characters in the woods.

  14. April 27, 2010 at 4:38 am

Oooh! Also notice how Sookie and Bill are flanked by Pam and Eric? They’re not nearly as close to any of the other characters (Alcide included). Yay!

  15. 68 Millarca
    April 27, 2010 at 4:42 am

All the others are lounging about against something languidly, but Eric looks ready for action, with muscles taut and ready to pounce. He also draws attention by being the only one in black, which reminds me of the ball scene in early GWTW when Rhett and Scarlett are the only ones dancing in black. Real attention-getting stuff.

    • April 27, 2010 at 4:44 am

Laffy is in all black… but he is off to the side and is dark so it doesn’t show up as strongly as it does on pale Eric

      • 70 Millarca
        April 27, 2010 at 4:48 am

To me Laffy looks to be more in charcoal grey than black. Eric’s black looks more stark because of his pale skin and the closeness of Sookie’s pale skin and pale dress. More contrast makes it more striking, I guess.

        • April 27, 2010 at 4:49 am

you are right. Eric’s black is deep black.. if that is possible.

          • April 27, 2010 at 4:55 am

Also with Sookie in white and Eric in black — it’s very Godric/Eric on the roof.

          • April 27, 2010 at 5:00 am

It’s the Black Tank of Doom!

Oh, how I grieved for thee.

i friggin loved that tank, and the leather jacket, oh yummmm. imo that whole scene made up for AB giving Bill Erics thunder in the bartender staking incident.
sucking bullets or not, Sookie was hot for Eric from that point on in the series

It’s interesting that it’s the same outfit he was wearing when he was going to be sacrificed by Steve Newlin. It’s also what he was wearing when he asked Sookie to trust him AND when she left Bill to run to Eric in order to remove the silver chains. I can go on and on but I won’t. lol

And what, exactly, is up with Snookie’s pale skin? She is supposed to tanned! That is her one and only vice. I was recently watching Season episodes and took note of how tanned she was.

I was wondering if it might be significant in some way that Laffy’s clothing somewhat resembles Eric. Dark tanks, dark jeans, both wearing necklaces.

And Dee mentioned earlier about Pam and Jessica also having similar outfits.

They’ve over-buffed Eric IMO. I like muscles on my men, but they’ve made him a little too bodybuilder in this art for my tastes. ASkars is a lean muscle not brawn as shown here.

I am so enraged over the hair! The hair plays a huge role in the story. First they cut it short, then they dyed it dark! From the S3 sneak peaks, it was quite easy to get past, because once again, my denial played a large part in telling myself that it really isn’t too dark, it’s just the lighting… LOL!! But this pic really…. I have no words for my rage!

Thanks for the offer SVB. Hand me a large shot of whiskey while we’re rocking in this corner of yours, ok? Haha!

I really don’t like this pic…. and maybe my eyesight sucks, but this almost looks like a painting of sorts, it’s definitely a montage anyways.

I simply don’t like it…and I know I’m already repeating myself. The hair ……… UGGGGHHHHHH…and tank top on a still/painting? I just don’t know. Eric was the guy with the radiant smile and blond mane in the books, so why is he growling like that. They may fix the hair, but making him not smile?

Simply doesn’t do it for me. More and more the only similarities between BookEric and *this* Eric is the name and occupation.

Make sure you keep watching…there are FOUR bits there…Once the Pam/Eric video ends, it becomes a TB (the product, not the show) commercial, then seems like a cooking show and then is a newsbrief…but it is all part of the same minisode…and it is ALL hilarious! Eric’s expressions are priceless, but the woman running into the tree is almost as good!

Guys, I do not have HBO, but would love to start watching TB episodes with Season 3. I have followed the TB discussion long enough to sorta know what happened during the first two seasons. Will the Season 3 episodes and/or the minisodes be shown online on HBO’s website or anywhere else? ASkars is just so much fun to watch, and I totally want to join in the dialogue and frustrations over the differences between the SVM and AB fanfiction!

BTW, I absolutely love the snake (temptation for Sookie) and the fact that Eric is at the center of the picture!

A larger, high-resolution version of this poster is posted at The Vault. If you zoom in, you can see that there are actually THREE snakes– the large python by Bill and Sookie, the snake around the the knot of wood, facing Jessica, and another slithering out of the picture through the grass on the lower right. (That one is cropped out here.)

This reminds me of what Alan Ball said about this season’s triumvirate of evil– indicating three deceitful villains this year.

Anyway, I think the large python represents Sophie-Anne. But the options are limitless at this point…

Oh, and Sookie’s dress appears to be pink– in contrast to last year’s white.

It brings to mind the pink ribbons of Young Goodman Brown, no?

We’re definitely getting kicked out of the garden this year. 😉

I thought Sookie’s dress looked pinkish, and the vampire women are in red. Do you think Sookie’s had just enough vamp blood to take on a vampish tinge? But, there’s Lafayette and he’s not pinkish;)

It also looks like it has a corset bodice. Restrictive and regressive…and there is Bill, holding her back with a restraining hand on her arm. It looks like he’s got her ‘tied down’ metaphorically and I have to wonder if this might refer to the enchanted ring in that even while he’s gone she’s still under his control…

I think there are some intentional parallels happening here, and some of them tie into your delusion theories, Sunny.

The skulls remind me of Memento Mori that I’ve seen in a lot of medieval artwork. Since most people were illiterate at that time other than the clergy, paintings were used to educate the masses and make them fear the wrath of God. Does anyone else see the resemblance here between the way everyone is posed and a macabre Dark Ages painting?

There is one plant with violet colored flowers and needle like leaves. Then, growing directly around the skull is a thatch of red, four petaled tubular flowers. Still somewhat narrow leaves, but not needle-like. Definitely two separate species here…I am a biology/chemistry teacher, so I am going to consult with colleagues tomorrow (they already know I am a nut, so letting them know about my (un)healthy obsession with SVM is no biggie! It sucks that Sookie is always in the pictures hanging on to Bill, not only because he is, but it is as a single entity, Sookie still can not be a character itself, should complement the other? after all is the SOOKIEVERSE, not only because not only their point of view that it should be relegated to almost an accomplice. I want to see Sookie develop this temporoda be less annoying and childish, to be funnier and less criticism, and resume their place in TB.

There are so many comments on here and I will re-read back n a min but has anyone else noticed that the positions of people are similar to the posing in the last supper? Eric as Jesus with arms out, Bill and Sookie leaning on each other to the left, jessica with arms out in proximity to Eric etc? Something to note or just them being creative with positioning, who knows, maybe it’s just to symbolise foreshadowing.

You can definitely compare the two, could be Eric who reveals the betrayl. They are in groups of 3 if you count alcide in wolf form just like in the painting. Judas was taken aback by the mention of betrayal and look how Bill is leaning back the same way and again Judas was only one with elbow on the table. Again 3 comes into play again bc AB said that there will be 3 villains this season. I’m sure others can probably even find other similarities.

I like this theory, but Sookie and Pam both have their elbows on the tree too.

          • April 27, 2010 at 9:28 pm

Well Sookie’s arm isn’t bent leaning, it is sort of laying, where as Bill’s arm is a very definite bend like Judas in the Last Supper. Not sure what to think about Pam, something to speculate on? In my original post I was going with the positioning of the characters in relation to the disciples, but I don’t know very much about which disciples are supposed to be which in the image, I will do some research!

          • 172 Dee
            April 27, 2010 at 9:38 pm

In the last supper you see people have their arms on their table but more like forearm and then elbow just by edge of table, similar to Pam. If you look at the last supper painting you see Judas is the only one whose arm is positioned that way, and like Maspencer mentioned also wearing same color shirt. Here is the explanation of who everyone is, georgina i know you posted just before you wanted to know:

The Last Supper specifically portrays the reaction given by each apostle when Jesus said one of them would betray him. All twelve apostles have different reactions to the news, with various degrees of anger and shock. From left to right:

Bartholomew, James, son of Alphaeus and Andrew form a group of three, all are surprised.
Judas Iscariot, Peter and John form another group of three. Judas is wearing green and blue and is in shadow, looking rather withdrawn and taken aback by the sudden revelation of his plan. He is clutching a small bag, perhaps signifying the silver given to him as payment to betray Jesus, or perhaps a reference to his role within the 12 disciples as treasurer.[4] He is the only person to have his elbow on the table. Peter looks angry and is holding a knife pointed away from Christ, perhaps foreshadowing his violent reaction in Gethsemane during Jesus’ arrest. The youngest apostle, John, appears to swoon.
Apostle Thomas, James the Greater and Philip are the next group of three. Thomas is clearly upset; James the Greater looks stunned, with his arms in the air. Meanwhile, Philip appears to be requesting some explanation.
Matthew, Jude Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot are the final group of three. Both Jude Thaddeus and Matthew are turned toward Simon, perhaps to find out if he has any answer to their initial questions.

            • April 27, 2010 at 9:45 pm

Yeah I have just been reading the wikipedia post about it, I guess if we stick with the 3’s thing then Pam would be Peter, she is pointing, just in a different direction. Could maybe point to the whole Bill and QSA going behind Eric’s back in attaining Sookie. Eric is supposed to have a giant arc in this season, I would say that the end of S2 with visiting QSA maybe he is realising something is going on, possibly tied in with the revenge plot? Not sure how obviously, could be interesting!

                April 27, 2010 at 10:07 pm

There was a spoilery casting call that went out for episode 10, which mentioned Eric drawing up a last will and testament. Someone’s got his number, that much is clear.

This could be totally off base, but if we’re going to run with the Jesus parallels, it could mean that Eric will be betrayed by someone (Bill) and turned over to authorities (possibly for the V selling, maybe for something else).

The Judas analogy also very obviously pertains to Bill seducing Sookie only to hand her over to Sophie-Anne (betrayed by a kiss). But there’s no reason why the metaphor can’t work on several levels.

Well you just know Bill will rat him out for selling V, whether he does it to Russell and Lorena to avoid torture, or after he’s rescued when he realized Eric has ‘come close’ to Sookie. Or both.

To me it looks as if Eric is protecting Sookie.

                  {Judas: He is clutching a small bag, perhaps signifying the silver given to him as payment to betray Jesus}

To me this sounds like Bill – he is clutchig Sookie – his payment or gift from QSA as well as what he may use to betray Eric maybe?

For some reason I think Jessica would be Peter just because of the way her right hand is positioned. I guess she could also be John.

Incidentally, maybe the little snake by Jessica IS symbolic of her (like a little Bill). I have a bad feeling that Jessica will become evil. I hope I’m wrong about that.

                  • April 28, 2010 at 1:17 am

I think Jessica is screwed this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s dead by the end of it.

From everything we’re seeing she’s going to be off the rails, at least at the start of the season.

The way they’re playing out the Godric/Eric/Pam and Lorena/Bill/Jessica dynamic on the show – I would not want to be in Jessica’s shoes, she’s in for a nasty end.

Yes, you’re very right about that. It could also be why Jessica and Pam are both wearing the same colors – they are both the “child” in the dynamic you describe. I followed Pam’s gaze and she doesn’t seem to be looking at Jessica at all – she’s looking off into the distance towards Lafayette.

In any case, Jessica is flanked by more than one snake. This does not bode well. I have a bad feeling.

I had a pet theory last season that Hoyt was going to have to choose between Jessica and his mother when she attacked her in episode 11– and thus he would be forced to stake her.

Much as I like Jess, it’s a pity it didn’t happen that way. Would have been totally brutal. And Freudian. And awesome.

Anyway, I agree with you both. Jessica is totally marked for doom.

Georgiana, what a great eye! This is the expulsion from the Garden of Eden and the Last Supper all rolled in to one. I’m so sorry I missed this discussion. It looked like fun! All I can add is that the negative space around Eric is the same as around Jesus and Sookie is in John’s position as the beloved disciple. Judas looks like he’s holding her down as sacrifice for the python just the opposite of Eric last season offering himself on the alter to save Sookie. Some critics think that the fish on the table are eels, so that would fit right in with our nest of snakes. LOL!

This picture is awesome. I had to make it my wallpaper so I can stare at the pretty, and contemplate the meaning some more. I need a hi-res version, though!

The Garden of Eden theme is awesome (at least it’s not yet another Last Supper, like the BSG and Lost promos).

My first thought was, does this mean Jessica and Pam are part of the main cast now? Because, yay, it’s about time!

Sam and Tara standing together. Man, I gotta admit, I liked them together so much in the first season, but I doubt we’ll see them hook up again any time soon.

I’m not surprised that Bill and Sookie are all piled together, but I love the way Eric is front and center, and perched right above Sookie’s legs. Since one of Eric’s roles this season will be to protect Sookie, along with Alcide (the wolf at his back), I choose to read it more as a protective stance (while still looking all threatening and badass).

That big picture is great. Thanks for posting the link, nerd.

Two new thoughts occurred to me looking at it this morning:

    1. We can see all of the big snake now. I’m pretty sure it’s a Burmese Python, which is not a native to Louisiana but is becoming a pest there and Florida with people releasing pets when they get too big. They are predators and are competing with the native alligators as dominant predator. I’m thinking maybe that particular snake is there for a reason – as a metaphor, and we are supposed to see the similarity between these feral predators growing too powerful to be controlled by their humans and vampires growing more powerful now they’ve come out of the coffin. But maybe I’m over-thinking it.

    2. I can’t see any tigers….thank goodness!

First thing that comes to mind is fairly common symbolism of bare feet – innocence. It is also symbolic of mourning – Jessica mourning the loss of her humanity, Sookie mourning…well, take your pick on that one.

Submissiveness? They are both also splayed out wantonly, thrusting their assets and displaying their legs. Probably hoping someone will pick them up and carry (or fly) them home. Who’d want to have to walk over all that nasty muck barefoot?

It’s not just the lack of footwear they have in common, I think. They seem to have very similar poses, but where Sookie is passive and confined, Jessica exuberates strength and independence.

Has anyone read The Ancient Pythoness’ posts regarding Eric/Jesus. This photo seems to confirm her predictions.

Bill is the only vampire who isn’t showing his fangs…

And yes, Pam and Jessica’s same color outfits and the way they are looking at each other seems to suggest their relationship could be more than a simply role model like I said a few weeks ago. I can see it happening because actually Jessica has a very big sexual trauma with her virginity issue and now she had problems with Hoytt (besides the fact that she unleashed her vampire instincts and is running wild). So maybe Pam could be the one who also teach her how to manage her nature (given the absence of a responsible and caring maker…)

Bill is the only vampire who isn’t showing his fangs…

A metaphor for how he keeps his true self hidden. Of course the BL’s will interpret it as him being less violent than the others..LOL.

[A metaphor for how he keeps his true self hidden.]

Yep, but it also could be his denial in accepting his vampire nature or a way to suggest he’s the most human of all the vampires (PFFT).

I also forgot to add that the big serpent’s tail is between Lafayette’s legs and its body also is located between Jessica’s open legs. IMO, and given the suggestive Jessica’s pose, it could also be another metaphor to highlight that they might be sharing something in common regarding their sexuality (like to share a sexual preference for the same gender or to have a new love/sexual interest).

OK, maybe I’m going crazy but I see a pair of eyeglasses. Look at Laffy’s boot then go down and slightly to the right. They’re situated between the two skulls but closer to the one on the left. Black rimmed with a cord attached…am I crazy? What could this mean? Gran’s glasses were wire rimmed, I think.

Snakes have fangs and vamps have fangs. There are four snakes and four vamps, right? *Maybe* each vamp is represented by a snake. I wish I knew something about snakes, but these don’t all look like the same kind of snake, do they? I wonder what kind they are, whether they’re poisonous, or native to Louisiana or not?

Are there just three skulls? I wonder if three humans die this season? It seems like a ridiculously small number…

I think there are four human skulls (and one horned, animal one) in this picture – the fourth skull is beneath Sookie’s toes IF that is in fact a skull. That makes the comparison with The Last Supper complete (Jesus/Eric with twelve disciples) but then you have to exclude the wolf. The (were-)wolf might be the equivalent of the mystery hand with the knife, though.

This Sam thing is really bothering me. How the heck did he know Eric enough to be so informal with him – even scolding him at one point during their conversation at Fangtasia? And Eric’s comment to him “you are known to not be friendly to those of my kind”. Really? He’s known for that? By whom? And how? Sam is shady even on TB! Something is up with him and I’m hoping we’re going to learn more about Sam’s associations in the Supe world. Maybe it will even clue us in to something we missed in the books. To me it seems that he’s staring at Pam in the pic above, not Bill…

I think when he says “you” he means shifters/weres in general have been known not to be kind towards vamps

I don’t know Dee – to me he sounds very specific that it’s Sam he’s referring to. He leans in to Sam and says “but you are known to not be friendly to those like me. Why should I trust you”. The way he says this sounds personal.

        • April 29, 2010 at 5:06 am

This whole scene was just bizarre. I was going to make a just sayin’ post about it but I haven’t had the chance to do the screencaps yet.

Everyone was so hung up on the GQ suit and the teacup humans line that no one really questioned why that scene just didn’t fit in with the plot anywhere. EXCEPT to tell us that Sam and Eric may have some prior connection.

Seriously, I’m all over that Sam Merlotte right now. Dodgy shifter.

            April 29, 2010 at 5:19 am

Nothing about that scene makes sense. Not the fact that Sam would go to Eric without have some prior acquaintance and not the fact that Eric would just abandon his offer to help when such a big deal was made of it.

NOTHING I TELL YOU. But if I’m going to grab at straws…

Eric called Bill out his blood-giving history with Sookie right after his meeting with Sam when they crossed paths at the palace. Any chance that Sam divulged that information as a barter?

If so, however, it makes even LESS sense that Eric would’ve just opted out of the showdown with Maryann. I’d think Eric would want to keep his word. Unless True Blood is hellbent on stripping him of all honor– which I doubt.

[If so, however, it makes even LESS sense that Eric would’ve just opted out of the showdown with Maryann.]

The problem is that QSA pretty much forbade him from interfering. She was very clear that he could not get involved. She said “I wouldn’t get involved if I were you” but let’s face it, what she was really saying was “stay out of it or else”. As we have all speculated, how odd that a Queen would ask a Vampire Sheriff not to get involved in a Supe issue within his territory and of course, her doing this pretty much solidified all of his suspicions, etc. We may still get an explanation as to his exact whereabouts in S3…

              Yup. That’s what I’m thinking.

Let’s get this back OT and I will get the post up later.

Exactly! There was so much stuff going on that episode that none of us ever thought to question it until now. The way he yells at Eric after Eric teases Arlene’s daughter – when he says “ERIC!” – it was just too informal. You don’t talk to someone you just met like that – ESPECIALLY not a vampire someone. They know eachother for sure. What the heck is up with Sam…

              April 29, 2010 at 5:33 am

I think it’s unlikely that they knew eachother in season 1– the way Eric talked about “checking out the competition” and responded to the bar suggests to me that he hadn’t been there before. And we know he didn’t meet Sam that night, either.

So I have to wonder if, knowing that Sam was Sookie’s boss after accompanying Bill to Merlotte’s that night, it isn’t being implied that Eric reached out to Sam on his own at some point in the few weeks that passed between that evening and the night Sam visited Fangtasia. Maybe even because he was doing some snooping about Bill– and more specifically what he wants with Sookie.

Or, maybe there IS a longer history between the two there. Something’s up, that’s for sure.

      April 29, 2010 at 5:00 am

I think it’s revealing that he even thought to go ask Eric for help in the first place. They clearly had some previous acquaintance…

But maybe that was just to illustrate that the supe world is a small one, where everybody knows everybody.

Still, I kind of doubt it– Sam being so secretive about his nature and not having any family and all.

I got my DIDF copy from Amazon.com as there was NO WAY I could wait for the UK edition (due on the 10th of June) but as I was browsing around Amazon.co.uk today I hapenned to see the UK cover for DIDF and its this exact poster!!!!

Do the editors really think they need to use True Blood to sell the books??!!

I have complained in the past about the UK covers (boring and repetitive) but this really annoys me… the series is NOT the same as the books and I can only imagine how many True Blood fans, who never read the books, will see this cover, buy the book and then go WTF???!!

I am surprised CH would allow this, surely she has to approve the covers?

    • May 31, 2010 at 1:47 am

Oh Pat you just touched a nerve!

This pisses me off, SO BADLY. It’s all over all of the books, including the US release.

I was absolutely spitting when I got my hardcover copy of DITF with the Lisa Desimini artwork…that had True Blood and HBO splattered all over it. Then I open up the book and there is a FULL PAGE FUCKING AD inside for HBO and True Blood.

I mean really? I don’t know who is driving this but it is in SUCH poor taste. Ugh.

Oh oh OH and THEN… (I told you this touched a nerve!) I was at my local KMart and I found that the whole back series has been re released in paperback. And on each cover, is a character publicity still from True Blood! FUCKING MARYANNE is on the cover of FDTW! WHAT?! It is so blatant and gross, really.

I hate it so much, in my country just came out the first two books, I read the rest in e-book. when released with a cover LDID very ugly, I bought it, but I complained so much, and then they decided to relaunch the same book with the cover of the DVD of season 2 TB, so I was happy that he had bought with the other cover. I fear that when they launch the DtmW here, is likely to put the Bill / Sookie on the cover, I do not doubt it happens!
Already irritates me to leave the name of TB in the U.S. covers, I simply hate it, not to mention that an unsuspecting buying this book, and when read will be totally confused, I think it is disrespectful to the consumer / reader

Thankfully I pre-ordered mine – hardcover – from Borders. It’s the US version with Sookie & Eric & the sparkly rose, but even it has an attention-getting red stamp on the cover promoting True Blood.

One thing about using pics from True Bood to promote the books is that it will encourage TV show fans to buy the books, which will mean more people become aware of, and will develop an affection for, book Eric. That can’t be a bad thing.

Although I question the wisdom of using a pic of Maryanne, on whom so much time was wasted in S2, especially that pic, because I don’t recognise her from it.
