Dead in the Family Released!

It’s been one very long year, my fellow Sookiephiles and Viking lovers. And today is the day! We finally get Dead in the Family in our hot, sweaty little hands.

Though some very kind souls have spoiled me to within an inch of my life in the last few weeks, I haven’t read the full book yet so it will be a day or two before I have anything coherent to say about it.

Actually, it could be a few days before I’m capable of saying anything coherent at all.

In the meantime, this post is for those of us who need somewhere to play while we’re reading. It’s open season in here, feel free to discuss any aspect of the book you like.

Posting rules and big, chunky spoilers after the jump.

Please read the house rules before you post a comment. All DITF discussion is to remain in this thread only until Thursday.

If you have already read the full book – I know you’re dying to talk about it, but please don’t spill the ending or details from late in the book immediately this post goes up.

To avoid confusion and keep comments manageable, please stay on topic ie. books only.

Sadly I’m gonna have to avoid coming on to your awesome site for a few days SVB. At least till I’m done reading the first time round. I’m getting my book today so it shouldn’t take long. Love, LOVE your site and I’m addicted to it, so it will be hard to keep away! 😉

    • May 4, 2010 at 11:18 am

Yep, this blog is spoilerific. If you don’t want to be spoiled, best to avoid for a little bit.

I have been very clear though that all DITF discussion is to remain in this post for the next few days, so you will be safe on the other posts.

But if you really, really don’t want to be spoiled I can’t make promises things won’t get on other posts when I’m not around so probably best to avoid for a little bit.

      See you soon!

So my husband trapsed all around Sydney trying to find it (like the UK, Australia’s official release date with the black covers isn’t until June) and finally found it in a specialty fantasy book store (Galaxy), and snagged the last copy they had (with the US cover – which I rather)…

That’s all I shall say until other people have read it.

OMG I am going to have to stay away from this thread until June (rubbish UK book release date)!!! It is going to kill me. At least I will have a sexy viking at the end of it. Something definitely worth waiting for!

I loved that he seemed to develop a little bit of a sense of humor in this one and that he moved in with Sook to protect her and that he’s trying to be more likable. The ambiguity whenever he was asked a question was kinda off-putting though, but all-in-all Claude was much better in DITF!

Claude has some creepy boundary problems, or Sookie is overreacting.

    May 4, 2010 at 12:58 pm

Found the book yesterday and finished it last night! Still trying to process it.
Yes Aaine I LOVED Claude! He has the most humorous moments. Glad to see he and Dermot are not the bad guys,

Appius is neither good nor Evil, in his own way he is an honorable man/vamp. Eric is definitely conflicted with him around

Sookie is smarter, has some funny moments( mostly with Claude), she doesn’t just jump right in. She is starting to think! She is also darker, definitely changed, but how could you not be.

I think it was a transition book, answering some questions but setting up future action.

You can no longer debate it-Eric loves Sookie and she does tell him she loves him. Sookie is very protective of him and their love. She even tells Bill she loves him and not to wish any harm on him.

Bill has some sweet moments. I actually liked him in this book(of course a few eye rolling moments). I think that relationship has changed. After this book I am not sure how the BLS will still see a chance for him and Sookie but I will find out later when I go to CH’s site!

    Jason manned up, big time!

Not sure how I feel about Alcide. He did manipulate her to take the drugged drink but told her why. It was a classic Sookie moment for letting him guilt her into it.

Loved Pam, how can you not! Everyone thinks CH is setting Eric up to be King but I wonder if Pam will be the one and then Eric can keep his little piece of LA and Sookie will be as safe ( as possible).

Just a few random, incoherent thoughts. Gotta go to work now! Will cjeck back tonight.

LKC, good summary, I haven’t read the rest of the posts though. Just finished the book, It was killing me when I had to put it down to go to a meeting at my daughter’s school. I was like, “hurry up bitches, I gotta get home and finish reading about Eric and Sookie!” LOL!

There was a lot of Jason in this one, and I liked how he came through for Sookie. There were some funny moments here. I am glad Claude wasn’t bad either. I loved all of the love declared by our two.

Typical Alcide, using Sookie and guilting her into doing something. So glad Pam was ok. I was kinda worried Pam would die for some reason. I just couldn’t believe CH would let us get by without some kind of horrible thing happening. Glad it wasn’t true.

So glad that Bill found his someone, maybe now he will leave Sookie alone. Could you believe him telling Sookie that he would feel better if she would have sex with him? EEWW! Actually that is typical Bill.

Well I’m sure there is more I will think of but that is what I’ve got now.

I know what you mean about having to set the book down. I went to BAM and got mine about lunch time today (would’ve been earlier, but I couldn’t drag myself outta bed) and spent the whole day being totally unproductive. Like from 1:30pm to 7:30pm I did nothing but read. I didn’t even stop to eat, lol.

“So glad Pam was ok. I was kinda worried Pam would die for some reason.”
OMG, I know! At that one point, when Eric told Sookie that Pam was there and then you don’t see Pam anywhere, I was literally shouting in my head “What about Pam? Where is Pam? Find Pam!” And then when Sookie was mentally berating herself for not thinking of Pam right after Eric, I was so agreeing with her. Props to Jason though for manning up once again. 🙂

      May 5, 2010 at 4:23 am

“Appius is neither good nor Evil” I was actually quite surprised there. I figured I would hate Appius and Alexei. I was prepared to hate them both vigorously, but then I kinda didn’t. I didn’t really like them that much, but I definitely didn’t hate them either.

I definitely agree that it seemed like a transition book. Tied up a few loose ends and leaves some big plot points to be settled later on.

Alcide’s still an ass in my book. That hasn’t changed for sure. I don’t know that his actions in this book were really reprehensible, but it’s kinda like Bill. It will take a helluva lot for me to be able to like either of them.

Pam as Queen of Louisiana? I kinda love that ideal. 😀 Long live Queen Pam! 😀

    • May 5, 2010 at 9:05 pm

[Loved Pam, how can you not! Everyone thinks CH is setting Eric up to be King but I wonder if Pam will be the one and then Eric can keep his little piece of LA and Sookie will be as safe ( as possible).]

That’s EXACTLY what I think will happen. Pam seems to be more politically savvy than Eric in some ways. In an earlier book she points out that Eric will have to be more (something…self-controlled maybe?) in order to be king. And in DitF she points out how Eric is being distracted from being politically savvy.

        May 5, 2010 at 10:40 pm

Absolutely agree. We got glimpses of it in previous books, but to me, Pam’s “suitability” for such a position was well represented in DitF. Her conversation with Sookie about her changing and how she felt she was “born” to be a vampire, her impatience with sookie and eric’s interludes, her comments in their strategy sessions. Another thing I thought was interesting was Judith’s story about Lorena and her maker and how she seemed more adept at the life they had to live pre-Revelation than he was. I’m not saying Eric isn’t capable of being King, but I do think that he isn’t interested in that position and as things stand, he’s not enamored with the vampire system of governance. When sookie pointed out that the different kingdoms/factions couldn’t trust eachother and that “that’s awful”, Eric agreed with her.

          May 5, 2010 at 11:52 pm

I like what you’ve said here. I do think there have been plenty of things in the books that indicate that Eric is not interested in more power, more politics, that he likes his little corner of Louisiana and isn’t really interested in more. But I think that he will do what he has to do to survive–to keep Sookie, and Pam, and all his vampires safe.

Pam got lots of ink in this one.

    Definitely a transition/filler book.

    Lots of blood bond talk.

    • May 4, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Lots more explanation about the politics too…FINALLY!!

      • 35 Lkc
        May 4, 2010 at 5:08 pm

Yeah and I love how Eric explains to her because he thinks she will be vulnerable not knowing! Not keeping her in the dark like others!

Sookie also seems to have a good grip on the BB, until she gets overwhelmed with Appiuus and Alexie. I wonder why she cannot feel Pam?

    • 36 caratstick
      May 4, 2010 at 11:26 pm

pg 61: I forgot to ask her if Octavia had found a way to dissolve Eric’s blood bond with me. Possibly I wasn’t very interested in an answer.

I thought that was SO revealing.

      • 37 holby
        May 4, 2010 at 11:49 pm

Oooh, Caratstick…and at the end when she mentions that the bond is weaker because they hadn’t renewed it and she wasn’t going to ask him to do that “tonight.” She’s seeing the value in it, too…such as being able to go and save his effing life because she knew he was in danger!!!

        • 38 VampirePamsGirl
          May 5, 2010 at 4:32 am

It’s kinda confusing though cause didn’t I hear before that CH had said that the blood bond would be dissolved? Why have Sookie start accepting it now if that’s the case? I mean, I’m thrilled that she is coming to see the value in it (as Eric told her she would) but it doesn’t jibe if it’s supposed to be dissolved or something. Not unless maybe it is dissolved and Sookie ends up asking Eric to renew it?

          • 39 caratstick
            May 5, 2010 at 2:13 pm

I agree, it doesn’t fit with all the blood bond hatred. But there’s a reason for everything significant that CH writes. I think your last sentence may end up being what happens. Sookie realizing that love and a true committed relationship (marriage) binds you to someone, opens them to you and you to them. You should feel what your mate is feeling; when our partner is sad do we not also feel their pain? The blood bond is the metaphorical made real–takes the idea of sharing in relationship to its most extreme. But everything in Sookie’s world is extreme–she doesn’t (can’t) do normal. I think we will see Sookie realizing all of this. I think she already is.

          • 40 Suzanna
            May 5, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Maybe CH wants Sookie to accept the bond–and then take it away. That way, she’ll be able to ask for the bond and it’ll tie her all that closer to Eric

    May 4, 2010 at 1:58 pm

This book is definitely more fun than DAG and it flows MUCH better . The story feels more coherent

Pam and Sook get a couple good moments together , when Sook calls Pam to warn her that Eric’s Maker has shown up , Pam responds with ” F*ck a zombie!” LOL! Victor also sends a couple vamps to kill P/S when they’re driving and P/S kill them first , very cool

Love the whole Bill sibling story — extremely interesting. We FINALLY get to hear about his “Turning” from his vamp “sibling” and then he and Caroline Bellefleur meet to discuss their mutual family ties which was great. Bill gets some terrific lines with Andy/Portia — he gets all “grandfatherly” on them which was awesome

Some of the funniest moments are with Claude, he’s trying to change and he has this little “thing” for Eric , he wants to peek at him when he sleeps in the closet one day so Sook has to watch him to make sure he won’t . He was very impressed when Sook said she was seeing him. Very fun!

      May 4, 2010 at 10:56 pm

Yeah, Claude and Eric…what is it with Fairies and Vamps. How many times have we heard a vamp (usually Pam) say how they love the smell of Fairy…and then Claude says that about Eric having been at the house, “I love the smell of Vampire!” LOL

I admit…I cried just a little bit when Caroline Bellefleur died.

OK I am trying to breathe here. Appius shows up in a Black Sabbath T Shirt? Fuck CH you are killing me, really! So far Claude has trotted out a brown silk T and now this. I feel another fashion crimes post coming on…

      May 4, 2010 at 2:29 pm

Hey… don’t knock Sabbath SVB! ‘Paranoid’ is only one of the BEST ALBUMS EVER. And Appius clearly shares my husband’s taste in music. LOL.

May I also add that I don’t have my book yet… and I probably won’t get it until tomorrow or the day after? And yet, here I am.

I hate myself just a little right now. *sigh*

      • May 4, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Don’t hate yourself MAS. Honestly having read all the spoilers I did before getting the book I thought I’d ruined it. But I didn’t – reading everything in context is something spoilers will never ruin. So just enjoy 🙂

(Besides, I am selfish and like to hear your insight lol)

I will only get my copy by the weekend but couldn’t resist being here either 🙂

I think reading spoilers is not that bad as when I actually get my hands on the book I won’t feel the need to rush through it, reading mainly the best (Eric, Eric, Eric) parts first and hopefully I can enjoy a less stressed and more leisurely read!

That’s the theory and how I am justifying being so weak, hehehe

    • 50 holby
      May 4, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Actually, SVB, I think CH was giving a nod to you. She’s read your posts about the GAWD-AWFUL brown silk shirts and just knew that she HAD to throw in another one! (That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!) Perhaps this book disputes Toni Cox’s theory that CH is writing about rural fashion of the early 80s since so many folks mention the war in Iraq in the book! (sorry…rant)

Oh jeez, perhaps I shouldn’t have read this thread! LOL I don’t know when or if I’ll ever get to read this book any time soon … no money to buy a copy. Books have gotten just to darn expensive to buy anymore. And our local library won’t get “books of Satan” *rolls eyes* Anywho … perhaps if I read enough of these types of threads, I will have essentially read the book! LOL =)

Interesting convo between Sookie and Appius about Jesus. Very reminiscent of Godric.

Oh. my. god. I am in LOVE with this effing book! Only to page 161 but I’ve already made a million notes (something is UP with Bill and, damn, love the tossing around of the love word between E and S!), “seen” Eric’s house, laughed my butt off, and cheered BADASS Sookie on!

And is Sookie not still her funny and witty self, though with a bit more world-wariness?! I’m so excited to have her back!

Oh, and the BJ scene?! Wow. CH, you naughty, naughty bitch.

P.S. No SPOILERS could’ve ruined this because it’s very subtle, but so far pretty intricate!

I have to say I miss old Eric. The fun flirting one that was funny and full of joie de vivre. The one that said “Yield to me”. He was awesome and sexy and just so… I have no words. I miss the humor between him and Sookie. I do love this new Eric, but I miss the old one. Am I the only one? And do I make sense?

    • 70 Lkc
      May 4, 2010 at 5:13 pm

No VampAngel I agree with you. I miss him too. I feel almost as if Ch transplanted his funny personality into Claude this book!

    • 71 caratstick
      May 4, 2010 at 11:36 pm

I definitely miss the more light-hearted Eric, but I think we will be seeing him again. And he was there at the beginning, despite the concerns about Victor and Felipe.

pg 36: “You are bullshitting me, Sookie,” he murmured. “But I’ll show you some A-one lovemaking. Because I think you can come again.”

I think the Appius thing really threw him off his game. My guess is that we’ll see fun, flirty, ruthless Eric back in full form in the next books.

    • 72 VampirePamsGirl
      May 5, 2010 at 4:46 am

I missed that side of Eric too, but I also feel like it was probably important to get to see the more vulnerable side of Eric, not just for the readers, but also for Sookie. It kinda makes their relationship a little more even, at least in my way of thinking it does. Plus he was dealing with a lot of shit in this book. And I agree with caratstick that I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the fun and flirty Eric.

      • 73 caratstick
        May 5, 2010 at 2:36 pm

Yes, VPG! I thought this line was very telling: pg 174 “The way I perceived Eric would never be quite the same again. I knew now what he feared….above all else, Eric did not want to be under the contol of his maker.”

And now he is free. Free to kick some Victor ass.

thanks for the link….you made my day!!!!!!
I think Eric and Sookie are very mature now…even their sense of humor could have change in a kind of way…but the contest is very heavy for them….there’s nothing light in their life so i guess even their dialogues could reflect that….
But i’ve to read before to judje and that’s exactly what i’m going to do right now!!!XD

        May 4, 2010 at 4:42 pm

I know it was the cutest thing, such an awwww moment and you can’t help but smile as you’re reading it.

I also LOVED when Bill asked Sookie if she loved Eric and she just said “Yes” no hesitation when saying it to him or anything. Can’t believe Bill said that if she slept with him, he would heal faster ugh.

Also, was so surprised with whom, Sam, is dating.

I also really liked the beginning when Sookie has dinner at Jason’s house, it was nice and touching to see how Jason has matured. I am liking the new Jason a lot.

I was disgusted with Bill and his behavior. How could he ask her to kiss him? And tell her if they had sex he would get better? And say he sometimes wished Eric dead? F*ck you very much Bill, you are such an asshole. I hate him even more, if that is possible!

That disgusted me too. The thing that gets me is that she’s just told him that she loves Eric and he knows they’re bonded and pledged – yet he still tries it on?

Wouldn’t Sookie be punished for cheating on Eric when they’re pledged? Isn’t that why Hadley was angry at SA because they couldn’t be together when she married ARK.?

            Selfish prick.

Hmmm so I guess that love she felt for him again, for just one moment, at the end of DAG was not the “in love ” love that so many have been theorizing! I mean if she was “in love” again wouldn’t she have seen him sooner? Tried harder to see him? Not wait almost a week after Sam told her she should go see him? Expressed her gratitude in a much better way? Just sayin!

Yeah, I never saw it as her being “in love” with Bill again. I think it was the type of love you have for a friend. She was in love with him at first, he betrayed her she was hurt by him and didn’t want him in her life. Then he was around and was there for her as a friend and she was able to accept Bill in this way in her life. Now I think it’s just a love for somebody close to you in your life.

Sookie in book 1 and 2 mention that she love Bill but not in love with him. That was sign that deep down she knew that she did not love him. Bill and Sookie were a doom couple.

No one saw it as Sookie being in love with him again – except the BL’s. It was pretty clear what was going on with the “I loved him again” line at the end of DAG. To *most* people 🙂

Loved the jump moment, too. It seemed so perfectly them to me.

Bill – I cannot be surprised by anything he says. He is pathetic. And how Sookie can still be flattered and tolerant of that kind of talk. Can you imagine staying friends with an ex that said remarks like that about you and/or your current lover? Poor judgement, Sookie. I’m glad that CH has so obviously put him out of Sookie’s HEA contest that even the BLs can’t deny it.

Sam – I would like to say I was surprised by Sam’s choice in women. (I’m not nearly as paranoid about Sam as, say, SVB.) But he does have terrible taste in women: maenead, Tanya, now Jannalynn. Obviously the man has a thing for sociopaths.

Jason – I agree that he has made great strides. Definitely on his way to being a better brother.

Well even if you aren’t, I am. I got a huge sense of forboding throughout the book with how much Sam was there, and Sookie’s thoughts on him. Coupled with the fact that CH has said from the beginning she knew who she’d end up w/ and that Eric was a “surprise” that demanded more attention. I just fear where it will end up. Of course Appius’ comment that she’d never keep Eric didn’t help at all. LOL

I find it interesting that the last chapter of DAG was so serious and saw Sookie facing her most serious test of character and her greatest personal losses and now the last chapter of DitF has Eric going through a parallel situation: the most greivous physical injury and the loss of his maker/mentor. They’ve now both had the complete emotional purge. I see them taking a break from each other in the next book to get perspective and that is when Sam’s brother’s wedding will take place. Ugh!

      • May 5, 2010 at 3:08 pm

I can’t get my mind off Sam. I think there is serious crap for Sookie on the Sam front. As has been mentioned he has crappy taste in the women he dates. Think about the character of the women. Maenad was crazy, homicidal, Tanya was deliberately a liar and tried to manipulate Sookie ( for whatever reasons) and th talks she has with Sam in previous books were always behind closed doors. Then there is his latest fling Jannalla (sp?). She doesn’t have a problem with clubbing people.

Also Sam’s brothers wedding. That has run through 2 books. First it’s on then off, then on again. Has it been mentioned where this wedding is to take place? Sam is too eager to take Sookie to this wedding.
I’m sure it is going to be out of LA., away from Eric and the people she trusts. Hope it’s not in Nevada.
I can’t put my finger on the mistrust I feel for this character.
There is a long game here and it’s not good for E/S. Sorry to be a wet blanket after all the joy we got to read about, but that’s how it seems to me.

The wedding will be in Texas–and I agree that it is going to be a major plot driver because it has been in *three* books (he first asked her in FDTW, I believe). There will be issues when she goes on this trip, although I am not sure they will be centered on Sam necessarily. I think it will cause a fight with Eric (Sookie even acknowledges that). And of course she’s going to get into some kind of trouble. Maybe Stan’s partner (can’t remember his name) will try to use Sookie to help stabilize the state (since Stan is weak and injured). Eric even mentions the problems they’re having. And I’m sure she’ll get sucked into some kind of Were shit, too. CH specifically mentioned the anti-Were protests in Texas. Like I said, there will be trouble, but I just don’t think the trouble will be of the romantic kind.

And did you notice ALL the little details thrown in to show how well they know one another? Like there was so much happening off page that we should know about (i.e. her being recognized by the gatekeeper in Eric’s community, the whole hair braiding scene, references to past conversations, references to each of them being the one that other shared their day with, references to the marriage/love, references to working things out together – the maker/brother issues, references to the future together/children/aging)… It felt like CH was throwing out these seemingly small, unobtrusive details to show how ENTWINED their lives have become.

The fact that Sookie admits she didn’t want to actively purse a conversation about breaking the blood bond with Amelia (via phone) was a big deal, too. It shows a progression in the direction of realizing she wants to be with Eric for the long term.

And even if Sookie was more ambivalent at times, Eric was nothing if not completely and utterly steadfast in their relationship. It was so great to see him embrace Sookie in his life even if it did cause more struggle/grief when his maker arrived.

Okay, so after that rambling, what I’m attempting to say it that I feel like we are seeing a MUCH more mature and lasting relationship in this book with Eric than we’ve ever seen in the past. I don’t remember ever seeing such signs with Sookie’s other relationships at all. Why put this much effort into showing their emotional/physical/blood bond and then have it all blow up??

I loved their relationship in this book and noticed the little hints about their relationship. Such as when her and Jason go to Eric’s house after they leave Alcide’s, she mentions how she gone over before unexpected so shows that there were times she probably just went over without him knowing she was going to show up. Definitely lets us see how comfortable they are with eachother, and how the relationship has grown. I love that he also bought a coffeemaker for her and kept food in the fridge in his house. Very random but I found it funny that Eric’s house rule was to take off your shoes lol.

There was a nice moment too when Eric explained to her how vampires first came to the US and their whole system, she felt touched that he felt she should know since she was a big part of his life. Then we see later on how different this is from the relationship she had with Bill, when she is talking to Judith even she was surprised that Bill never told Sookie about how he was turned. Bill didn’t let her into his own life that much and was that open.

I also love that he told her he only trusts two people in his life – her and Pam. I loved that they included her in the discussions about the possibility to kill Victor and even who the spies are. He trusted her very much by telling her about Rasul. Still digesting the book but with the vampire politics we learn PLUS…in previous books we know Eric is rich/powerful, but he is still labeled “a sheriff”…In this book, a little more detail is given about exactly how powerful Eric is the vamp world. Victor thinks by taking him out that will lead Victor to a Kingship.. hmmm

When Appius said that you’ll never keep him line…I immediatly tied it to all this vamp politics…and agreed..

          • May 5, 2010 at 10:32 am

I’ve been holding off for months writing a post about Eric becoming King of LA, waiting for this book. I’m glad I waited because there is alot of information in here about the political structure and she’s giving it to Sookie (and us) for a reason. I have absolutely no doubt this is where she is heading with Eric. I actually read a new interview the other day where she was asked about it specifically and she refused to answer the question saying some things will happen in later books.

It’s really just a matter of who is right about Victor’s gameplan – Eric or Pam. Either way Victor will die of course. It was interesting that E and P have different ideas about what Victor’s approach is. Normally I would be inclined to stick with Eric’s version but as I’ve been saying here for a while (and Pam confirmed it straight out to Sookie in DITF) Eric’s judgement seems to be off since he regained his memory in FDTW. He’s not thinking or making decisions in the same way he did in earlier books. So Pam could well be right and Eric is wrong.

But we’ll really have to nut this out in some more detail once all of this new info sinks in a bit….

Yeah, I don’t see Sam as the HEA from this book as some said before, but CH did plant some bombs about Eric & Sookie. The worst one was when Appius tell her: “You won’t keep him.” Say what? I was like WTF did he mean? What is CH telling us about them?

I think this book showed how much Sookie does love Eric and vice-versa. Did anyone else thought it was cute when she was thinking why Appius had showed up that he might need money and she was thinking of how much money she had and that she could give it to Eric to give it to him? I thought that was the cutest thing and it shows they are a couple and do things together. She wasn’t thinking it wasn’t her problem and not wanting to share her few bucks, it was such a nice gesture. I was so happy when I read that. Am I crazy?

I guess I thought Appius was letting her know she wouldn’t keep Eric if she killed him.

On the other hand…she was so totally on the “kill Appius” bandwagaon. And I agree with poster above. I think Appius was an honorable vampire. Yeah, his prediliction was a bit much, but Eric was right…for Appius’ time period, it was perfectly acceptable. And Eric must have learned to be a good leader and master from someone!

The cutest part of the money thing for me was…um, Sookie…do you have any idea how fucking RICH Eric is!???? LMAO. And I also really liked that she was fine with the idea of him buying her a present instead of doing the old, “I am not a kept woman” powergirl move!

It was totally heart-warming that she was willing to give her money to Eric, especially since she’s always so worried about being broke. It definitely says alot about their relationship.

I really couldn’t see Sam as the HEA after this either. To me, he seemed like Sookie’s best girlfriend in this book. Like just a couple of girlfriends going out and getting lunch together. Usually there’s some sexual tension between them in prior books, but there seemed to be absolutely no sexual tension between them in this one or really between Sookie and any guy other than Eric. Which makes me a very happy EL!

Honestly, bombs or not, I just can’t see how it can end any other way than Sookie/Eric or Sookie being alone. Their relationship is soo much stronger than any other one she’s had imo.

Yeah there were no sexually tense moments between Sookie and Sam in this book, their friendship was moved into a more platonic category. I think a lot of the “OMG Sam could be her HEA!” talk stemmed from the fact she didn’t like his girlfriend so *obviously* she loves him if she doesn’t like his new girlfriend! WTF? No!

His new g/f was a complete psycho – that’s why she didn’t like her! Sam really does have funny taste in women, maybe in the next book we’ll see him dating a dominatrix and wearing a dog collar for real cos he seems to have a thing for women who love to control things or kill things!

I also loved how when Eric was explaining the Vampire politics to Sookie, that Sookie would ask questions with a “are we” and “us”. She really felt like part of Eric and his world without hesitation. It was just natural for her to say “we” and “us”. Loved that!

Oh and I like the new Sookie who wishes people dead. It has been a long time coming, but I think it fits the story and all she has been through. I would think the same. I thought it was very interesting when she tells Eric that she was going to ask Appius to kill Victor. He was surprise at how smart she is and I think about how much she cares for him. The main reason Sookie wants Victor dead is Eric. She might not want to be Victor’s telepath but she isn’t in iminent danger, Eric is and she is pissed and worried. She is standing by her man. You go Sookie!

I absolutely agree. I am pleased to see ruthless Sookie in action. She has seen the maker relationship in action. She can see how Eric, despite loving his maker, hates being bound, being obligated to do someone’s bidding. And she sees how, if Eric is so bound, he could be a threat to her. She knows how a maker can disrupt a relationship. And as for Victor, that vampire is smarmy and sleazy and something is definitely rotten in Denmark. Whether it’s vengeance for not letting Eric come help her or a preemptive strike, Sookie is absolutely right to want him dead. Three cheers for pragmatic Sookie.

I just started my download from audible.com — Its only 9.99 I think this is due to the fact that the Kindle version is not available. I have not read any post and won’t until I am done.

  33. May 4, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Right after I started the download, I got this email from Audible.com — you have to be a member to get that price.

Because you’ve listened to the advance first chapter of Charlaine Harris’ Dead in the Family, we wanted to let you know that the complete, unabridged production has just been released, and is available for just $9.95 until May 11.

so what about our theory about Sam being part fae and part of the rat scheme?

    • 149 MASpencer
      May 4, 2010 at 9:37 pm

I don’t know about Sam, but I’ve wondered before whether Eric was part-fae as a human. (He and Niall seemed to share a special connection, and he and Sookie most certainly do, too.) Also, there was this line from DITF, which caused me to raise an eyebrow: “Fairies don’t lie, but they don’t always tell all the truth, either.”

I know readers have wondered before whether Eric and Sookie are related, mostly because of the constant comments about their similar eye/hair color, paired with their oft-mirrored personalities. Obviously, that’s not the case. (CH has confirmed… and frankly, even if she hadn’t, I don’t think she’d go there with the two of them given their steamy history anyway. It would be beyond gross.)

But… maybe Eric and Sookie share the same heritage, if not (thankfully) the same blood-line?

I’m disappointed in Appius, I mean I thought he would help take out Victor or Felipe. I guess his death helps Eric have a free reign if he ever gets the Kingship of LA, but I hope it doesn’t come back to bite him in the ass, like they charge Eric with killing his maker.

    • 165 RubySun
      May 4, 2010 at 11:22 pm

Yeah, CH kind of left all of the Victor/Felipe/Vegas stuff open ended. In fact, there wasn’t much about it at all except towards the beginning. I thought there would be more once Pam and Sookie kicked ass on Victor’s two hench”people”! But pretty much nothing after that??? I guess that is where we will be going in the next book.

Oh, Holby, I loved that Jason gave Pam his blood. Maybe they will have a thing in the next one? 🙂

I couldn’t help but wonder if Victor had something to do with Appius and Alexei showing up like that. After all, they did say that Victor would want to discredit Eric if he could and it seems like having Appius and Alexei around would be a great method for achieving that.

      • May 5, 2010 at 5:42 am

Yep Sookie did run through that as a possibility when she was trying to work out why he was there, didn’t she?

        • 170 VampirePamsGirl
          May 5, 2010 at 6:09 am

Yeah, she did. Her theories were

          1. He wanted money. (which she was willing to give to Eric if he needed it, awww)
          2. He was in trouble, being chased by Bolshevik vampires that were after Alexei, and needing a place to hide.
          3. Felipe and/or Victor were planning on using him to pull Eric’s strings.
          4. That he’d showed up just to mess with Eric’s head.

She thought 4 was the most likely scenario. but I dunno, why show up just now to mess with Eric’s head?. I’m stuck on #3 myself in light of learning more about Appius and Alexei, especially after hearing this:

–“How do you think he plans to dislodge Eric?”
–“He’ll try to discredit him,” Pam said, without pausing a beat.”

And Appius and Alexei showing up definitely distracted Eric (and everyone else) from the Victor/Felipe situation and them showing up happened after Victor’s two top dawgs were taken down.

            May 5, 2010 at 3:23 pm

My thoughts exactly. I kept waiting for Victor to pop up somewhere at the end to finish Eric off. Now we’ll have to wait for the next book. Hoping Eric gets all his mojo back quick. It seems like he will.

Suspicions about Sam are growing in my mind. That man/supe picks some strange women to date. First the maenad, then Tanya now intense were. I found I trusted him the least in DITF. He may have been iffy before, but now there are too many red flags. He’s too angry and picks questionable dates too often.

Sometimes Sookie is such a prude. Having a gay guy around (if you’re a girl) means you don’t have to worry if he sees you naked–even if he thinks you have “beautiful points” (hah!) Besides, it’s not like he got into the shower with her. I can understand being shy, but sometimes her reactions are so over the top.

  48. 182 Charlotte
    May 5, 2010 at 1:08 am

I just got done reading it and I thought it was fantastic. CH left out a lot of things that I thought would be covered like FDC/Victor. I thought we were going to get a lot more about them and the take over than we did but that’s okay with me right now because I loved this book.

I loved that Pam and Jason were so involved in this story. They are probably two of my favourite ‘supporting’ characters and to see them so prominently was awesome. Pam had some fantastic one liners that had me cracking up. When Eric mentioned that Pam was in the house I literally yelled at Sookie. I was like ‘WHY AREN’T YOU CONCERNED!?’ Jason really astounded me. I love that he has grown up and learned from his experiences it’s so nice to see him in this new light. And it sort of parallels Sookies growth in a way.

As far as E/S go…no words. They are absolutely adorable and I loved all te cute little moments that they shared. My favourite E/S scene was by far the ‘long legs spread on crumpled sheets.’ I loved how Eric could feel that Sookie was getting all hott and bothered and he reacted with a ‘fangy smile’. So perfect.

One thing I did think about just in passing was Niall and the war. We don’t really know much about him except that he’s powerful and related to Sookie. I started to think about his place in the war. It may be far fetched but what if Niall was behind the start of the war. We know that Breandan had a big thing against humans and their interactions with the fae, but he was an enemy of Niall. I was thinking maybe Niall knew it would provoke Breandan to do something if he contacted Sookie. Niall didn’t send Sookie protection, even after she was attacked in her garden, and even after it was all said and done he still closed the gates. It just seems shady and I don’t trust him. He sent Sookie the letter in DitF and I think that was CH’s way of keeping is character ‘active’ so I believe we will see him again…

    • May 5, 2010 at 1:14 am

Oh yeah, Niall is definitely going to be back. And he is looking quite a bit shadier now than he did in DAG.

      • 184 Charlotte
        May 5, 2010 at 1:19 am

Very much so. When I was reading Sookie’s little ‘recap’ of what happened I just got an overwhelming feeling of shady…haha I wasn’t really sure how to put it into words because it just sorta jumped out at me as I was reading.

Yeah, what was with him casting the spell on Dermot? Different topic, in one of the first chaps did anyone else notice the little fu Charlaine did to AB and TB when she had Sookie say when thinking about Sam how he could change into anything warm-blooded. Not sure if he could change into snakes or bugs, etc. That was after she said that “Bad Things” was playing on the radio. IDK, I took that as an in your face AB/TB! It made me laugh!

        • 188 Charlotte
          May 5, 2010 at 8:19 pm

Dermot is interesting to me. I think mostly because of the spell Niall had him under which makes me view Niall in a completely new light. I was always suspicious of Niall, you know just showing up all of a sudden like ‘Hey, btw I’m your Great Grandfather’… and I was never super interested in the fae side of things…But I agree, I’m anxious to learn more about Dermot now and see what new light he can bring to that ‘shady’ corner of the world..

          • 189 Dee
            May 5, 2010 at 8:30 pm

I never trusted Niall, so I’m glad to see some hints of him being deceiving.

I think, Dermot, will have alot of answers. He knows first hand what happened with Sookie’s parents, he was blamed for it but I wanna hear his side. Was he already under the spell when this happened? if so then was this the reason Niall put him under a spell. I wonder if maybe Fintan also protected the Stackhouses from Niall, not just the water fairies. Maybe there will be answers in the attic. Fintan could’ve confided in Sookie’s grandmother and told her about his father and to bewaare of him. Maybe even went into more detail about things, you never know. Whatever is in that attic will definitely hold a lot of answers, can’t be just that she slept with Fintan and had his kids because we all know that already. Needs to be something very revealing and finally give us more insight into the fae’s world. But I think Dermot will help a lot too, he should know better than anybody what Niall is up to.

    Absolutely loved it!

    1) Jace Everett’s “Bad Things” nod was cute
    2) Sookie and Eric definitely love each other..and she appears to have accepted it…YAY!
    3) Pam is too funny..loved when she and Sookie acknowledged each other as friends
    4) Bill and Caroline moment was touching
    5) Loved the whole Claude, Dermot, Sookie sleeping together at the end
    6) Bill and his vampire sibling/wife look-a-like appear to be really into each other which seems to have (or hopefully will) put an end to his longing for Sookie
    7) I thought it was pretty interesting that she was thinking about growing old/falling apart and how that wouldnt happen if Eric changed her
    8) Sookie thinking about insemination and how Eric would feel about that
    9) Jason was an amazing brother for a change
    10) So happy Claude was a good guy…it wouldve been heartbreaking if he ended up being the bad guy
    11) I dont get Sam – he wants Sookie yet all the women he dates are nothing like her
    12) Sookie’s reaction to Bill’s kiss…she is so over him!
    13) Loved the new Sookie, watching out for self and what’s hers…no longer feeling the need to hash out the pros and cons of every single thing to death
    14) The BJ scene…our girl is a champ if you know what I mean..hahahaha

oh theres lots more but those are a few of the things that grabbed me….ok so when does book 11 come out?!?! 🙂

She is a fan!!! (love her for that. Russell Crowe is my man.) The article where she talked about him is no longer at the link, but here’s an excerpt.

Russell Crowe cast in werewolf mould
        June 12, 2009 12:00am
RUSSELL Crowe may be having a hard time playing the most famous man in tights in the troubled Robin Hood flick.
But one supernatural expert believes his problems may have something to do with the fact he could be a werewolf.
American Charlaine Harris, whose True Blood books boast a four-million-plus readership and have spawned the sexed-up HBO series on Foxtel, names Crowe as the “most likely” actor to be a werewolf.
“I love Russell Crowe, I’m a big fan,” Harris says. “I don’t think he will find out, I don’t think he would be the type to read my books.”
Well if Hugh Jackman can be Wolverine, why can’t big beefy Russ join the hairy party?

              May 5, 2010 at 10:08 pm

It’s funny because they are CONVINCED that AB will keep Sookie and Bill together. Ok, I understand they are pulling for the couple(not that I understand why) but they truly believe there will be no E/S on the show and B/S will last. I understand those who haven’t read the books but those who have, the signs have been there but it’s ignored. I mean if Hadley didn’t tell QSA about Sookie, then why even have her on the show. Plus the many other clues we saw in both seasons. They also throw around the fact that AB has strayed a little from the books but with as many differences you can name, you can name as many similarities. Plus the main stories are always there, maybe a little tweaking. In the end they truly believe that AB will not separate them, most don’t even consider for a second the possibility it might not happen. I don’t think they’re going to like S3 lol, and they will dislike what AB is doing along with CH.

Its funny but recently I even read a comment that Eric has just been a distraction in the books and she is going to end up with Bill. A distraction? since the beginning of book 3 they have been broken up and we’re at book 10, thats quite a distraction lol. I understand holding onto hope but they’ve been broken up for 7 books, kinda time to move on. It’s like the ex who won’t let go of the past, oh like Bill I guess haha.

“I love you,” Eric said in a drained voice. “And you are my wife in the only way that matters to me.”

AAAAAAHHHHH!! What is this?! I’m not sure whether to be thrilled or appalled?! My E/S addict side is jones-ing for more of this, but my more realistic side says that some bad shit’s gonna go down in the next book.

I may be in the minority here, but I don’t think all this wife/love talk is out of character for the Eric I know and love. I feel like Eric’s always been very flexible and able to accept and roll with things (much more than Sooks!). So in my mind, when he realized he’d fallen for her, it was all over. He went all in.

Do you guys think he seems out of character (sure, I agree he’s tenser, because of Appius etc, but I don’t think he’s lost his bad-assness)?

Not so much out of character, but more serious. The joie de vivre is missing. Of course there has been serious shit going down for quite awhile now. So next book maybe.

Never his bad-assness as you so eloquently put it. But as DeeDee on EricNorthman, net put it, Sookie seems to have taken more of E’s vampire characteristics and Eric more human characteristics after their blood bond. I tend to agree.

He was so worried in this book. I worried with him… 😦

No, Eric has not lost his zest for living. There was alot of serious themes going down in the book and it seemed to drain his character. Before Appius showed up, our E/S had a lot of funny moments. The old reparte was there for sure.

Seemed more “matter of factly” to me than anything else, TBH. I read it that for him at least, while he did trick her into it, it wasn’t just a scheme to protect her, that it’s absolutely the real thing to him.

Not like we can expect him to give a crap about human laws regarding marriage. I have a feeling that he’d be willing to go with the charade of human rituals for her sake if that’s what it would take for her to “accept it”, but seems too much of a definite thing for a SVM book, this isn’t Twilight.

OK, where do I start? I loved the book. I definitely thought this book flowed like CH’s earlier books in the series. There was a lot of good dialogue moments which many of you have already quoted above. But really CH you don’t write good sex scenes. I mean really. Your shower scene with Eric and Sookie was by far the best and that was six books ago.

Having said that I was very apprehensive about this book after reading the first spoiler chapter. I think CH did right by our lovers-E/S. I was glad to hear CH version of Bill being made and Appius and his demise in this book.

It was interesting to hear the internal dialogue that Sookie had about maybe becoming a vamp and how she wasn’t sure that Eric would ever agree to do it. I think that brings up an interesting question. Would Eric ever consider making Sookie a vampire?

The ending was definitely Shakespearean in nature and still a lot up in the air with the Vampire politics. There were a lot of political subplots in this book and I was glad to see it. CH is continuing to sharpen the picture of the vampire hierarchy. I like that. At least she is putting her spin on things before AB does his own spin.

I found I was hearing some of the TB dialogue on certain pages. I will have to reread before I can pick it out again. I think I read the entire book in 4 hours. LOL. I really do need to get a life.

Overall, I would say buy the book especially if you enjoy the Eric and Sookie romance. I felt much better after reading it. Yeah, for the Viking and the telepath.

I also thought her dialogue about being turned was interesting, pbt. She actually was thinking about it instead of her usual immediately reactive negative. I’m not saying she (or CH) we’ll change her mind. But I think that, after suffering at the hands of those fae, it would only be natural for Sookie to be more drawn to (or at least give more thought to) something that would make her stronger and more powerful, make her life longer.

      • May 5, 2010 at 7:24 pm

That is what I am curious about. Does Charlaine ever change her mind? Sookie certainly spent some time thinking about it. And she is acting as if very in love with Eric. But then there is that history of vamp to vamp relationships not lasting.

Alright, I loved this book like everyone else. But it has me majorly worried that CH is still gonna try to make Sam the HEA, I can’t find the exact quote but it was towards the end of the book right before Bill contacts her about the bible thing. She’s at work with Sam and she was saying something along the lines of desperatly wanting someone to reach out and contact her, and then Sam LITERALLY reaches his arm and rubs her arm. Maybe I’m just being paranoid but that was so some awful forshadowing in my opinion.
I just had this terrible feeling through out the story. CH seemed to put a lot more Sookie/Sam moments in this book then I remember in pervious books. It seemed like during all their talks there were major hints about how they basically “meant to be” I dunno, that was just my impression, and it made me wanna throw a trantrum.
All I can hope is that in the next book E/S part ways, Sookie tries to make something happen with Sam, realizes it’s effing boring and lame, and goes running back to Eric, and then they have fun adventures for the last 2 books. Hahaha that’s never gonna happen. The Sam hints that were dropped in this book just made me horrible on edge. Really hoping CH doesn’t do that, after all th E/S build up. Venting all this out here has made me feel better though.

      May 5, 2010 at 3:36 am

Yeah, I had bad feelings about the Sam stuff as well. I loved all of the Eric stuff and there was a lot of good stuff, but I still see that CH has Sam as a candidate (sorry just watched Lost-hee) I think Bill is out-especially after the no feeling kiss and her telling him she loved Eric and his newfound vamp-love, Quinn hardly warranted a mention in this one (yeah- I was so happy no “Babe”), and Alcide, jeez could that man use Sookie any more than he does. He is so deep in the pack it’s not even funny. So, I see CH has whittled it down to Eric and Sam. There were more Sam and Sookie hanging out being normal friends in this book, like the first one. I don’t like it.

        May 5, 2010 at 4:10 am

Funnily enough at the moment – and I stress ‘at the moment’, since I am likely to change my mind – I am not worried that she might eventually end up with Sam. Not that I want it that way, but I’m not worried about it happening. At the present stage Eric loves her and he considers them married, and she loves him and is admitting it to her friends. They love each other and they are a couple. I think that if they don’t end up together it will be because she chooses another course. Eric can’t help being a vampire. He can only offer what he is. If it is not enough for her, I can’t fault him, and at the moment I’m quite fond of Sookie, too, and am prepared to cut her a fair bit more slack than I was. She has grown up a lot and has moved on from Bill and we are not having to suffer “Babe”, and she is giving her relationship with Eric a chance and thinking about its long term viability. I really can’t ask more of her than that.

Excellent post, this is exactly how I feel.

[At the present stage Eric loves her and he considers them married, and she loves him and is admitting it to her friends. They love each other and they are a couple.]

I no longer see any of the other suitors as part of the picture. I think the future for Eric and Sookie as a couple lies in what Sookie decides she wants for her future. And we can see in this book that she is already starting to think about a future with Eric. Eric, Sookie and Pam seem to be a family of their own now.

          May 5, 2010 at 8:11 pm

Yeah, I can’t picture it happening either. I just can’t see her and Sam together and can’t imagine what will happen to break up E/S(i know its possible) but for her to turn to Sam for a relationship, there has been no build up of this so depending on how it would be done, I think it would seem so unnatural.

Also, I think Sam is interested in different type of women. Seems he might have some freaky side and likes his women a bit freaky and on the wild side. He was with Calisto, Tanya, and now Jannalyn. None of these women are even close to anything like Sookie. We dont know what Sam is like in his personal time, but I think he enjoys being with someone more like him. I think he would be happiest with a shifter or some type of were, so he can share that part of his life with somebody. Somebody he can change with and have around for those times, he is alone when it comes to the supe world, yeah here and there he’ll be involved but he is not part of any pack. For sam to be with those type of women, there is definitely a side of him we don’t see, because he obviously does not mind their crazy side.

Just came back from CH book signing, did anyone else go today? When I mentioned how much I love Eric and Sookie’s relationship in this book she said “OHHHH i know” and she said it in an excited way. I am annoyed bc she was going to start saying something about it, but was cut off but the person next to her, maybe her publicist. They were trying to finish up the book signing and they handed her the next book. I was towards end of line so thats why but damn what did she want to say lol

First off, sorry if this is a repeat of anything else that has been said, I’m going to go back and read the comments after I do this initial comment here.

Just got finished with the book a couple of hours ago and OMG! I love it! Yeah, things are perfect, but it’s still pretty damn awesome. I actually couldn’t decide who I liked more in this book, Eric or Pam! Loved Eric and Sookie’s relationship seeming much more secure. It may just be my wishful thinking but it seems like she is in it for the long haul with Eric, much more so than she ever was with Bill or Quinn. I mean, she never thought about the whole getting old thing when she was with Bill, but now she’s thinking about ‘being with Eric forever!’ Even if it doesn’t happy (which CH has said it won’t) it still speaks a lot that she is thinking about it. She also seems much more committed to Eric IMO than she ever did with anyone else. Like with the others, she was always commenting about other men in her head, but it didn’t seem like there was much of that going on in this book. Just about everything in this book that had to do with their relationship, especially everything that came from Eric, made me happy. I do wish that Sookie was more vocal about her love for Eric with Eric and that she wasn’t so flippant about their marriage, which is obviously something that Eric cares about.

I also loved that it seemed like Pam and Sookie’s friendship was kinda cemented in this one. Like where Sookie tells Pam “You’re my bud” or when Pam lets Sookie know “You’re my favorite breather” and when Pam and Sookie took out Victor’s minions, hell yeah!

And I really loved the tougher Sookie. In the past, she could have a tendency to be whiny and indecisive, but she seems to really be growing in this novel and I love it. I love how she’s like ‘I want this person dead and I’m not going to feel sorry for feeling that way”. The whole Fae War and torture thing sucked, but one good thing that has come out of it has been Sookie growing her a set of brass balls.

I’m loving Jason’s growth here too. He’s becoming a person instead of a selfish dickhead. Yay! Same goes for Claude.

” “I love you,” Eric said in a drained voice, “And you are my wife, in the only way that matters to me.” “

This is exactly what I feeling the entire time! Like, it was too easy (even the maker stuff wasn’t THAT bad, not in comparison to some of the bombs CH has dropped before) and that we were going to pay for all this sweet/cute/poignant banter in the next book.

Though I’m just hoping that CH’s is trying to build a foundation for a really mature, honest relationship like Sookie’s not known before. Hence all the love-y stuff.

Read it and agree that I loved sookie and eric in this (in all their strength and fallibility). I also liked that sookie lit a fire under eric’s ass when she needed to. I can understand (and appreciate) the complexity of his feelings for Appius, but Alexei and his maker had really made things a mess. It may have been different if I got the feeling that Appius wanted to sort of step forward into the modern world, but Alexei said himself that Appius didn’t really want to mainstream. Sookie was pretty awesome in this book. I worry about her and eric, but not because I don’t think they’d be good together. (and yes I noticed her interactions with Sam and Bill). They were undergoing some similar personal crises in some ways. To me a good summation of it was the way she reacted when eric said that he didn’t have a plan and that “no matter what I do, someone will die!” You could feel his hopelessness and get a sense of what he’d been dealing with his entire life and it mirrored some of sookie’s musings earlier in the book when she was debating the morality of planning to kill people, but knowing at the same time that those people were real threats to her and those she loved. She told him “with no plan, someone’s going to die. And you know it.” She (and he) are in the position that many leaders (particularly military) are in. You get thrown a shitty situation and you have to deal with it. You hate it, but part of you thrives on it. It’s part of being human.
Loved Jason stepping up. Loved the time with Hunter and that he has sookie to guide him through things(and glad that he likes bright colors like eric does and that eric smiled at him). Loved Pammy! Also love that not all the fairies are gone.

I’m in overload, TBH. Need to think for a while.

There is SO MUCH going on in here. So much.

wow!!!!!!!! cant wait to re read this

i didnt like Sookie contemplating her mortality, i know its real, but its a big huge speed bump for ES hea
Sam is looking like the alternative to me too, when Sookie is remembering grans cooking on sundays on her way to church, and who is there……Sam
Sams poor choice in women, he hasnt been in a serious relationship yet, nothing to write home about, hmmmm nobody has yet measured up to Sookie. i dont like it, and i want Sookie to change, i dont care if she doesnt want to. I want Sookie and the Viking together, how will he ever get over having to watch her grow old and die, and i dont think she would let him.

On a lighter note, I WAS RIGHT about the other kin who meant her harm, i guess if i say enough random theories ill eventually get one right
The book did have alot of good ES moments, i loved how Sookie stated her happy times with him are better now than before the torture, after she was able to let go.
It was heart wrenching to see Eric so beat up
I too would LOVE to see a BL face right now, dont they have a web site we can all troll, hehe

There are so many wonderful thoughts already expressed that matched my own…exp about E/S.

However I think a spot that touched my heart strongly and that hit a strong point w/Skookie & Eric might have been when Hunter was sleeping. Hunter woke up to the “dream of the blonde man going into the closet.” In that section and I cannot quote it but I thought there was a point were you could see Eric looking down at Hunter like…well not like it was a stranger’s child but of the possiblities of children with Sookie. It was at that moment though I knew Eric’s tough side, the steamy sexy side, and I knew of the love side there showed me a depth to that love side. Maybe I’m the only one who read it that way.

Then one other spot not mentioned I just found funny…don’t know why but when Sookie was true Sookie and drank what Alcide told her too. When she was seeing all the colors for some reason I felt like I was the one who had just the drink/drug. I have to re-read that section because I was just laughing too hard to focus on what really happened.

Ok Once home from work I’m off to re read! lol I’m letting a friend read my copy tomorrow night and I’m not ready to part with it with out reading it a 2nd time.

I too loved the part where Eric smiled at Hunter before going into the closet. But I was kinda hoping to see some actual interaction between the two of them as well. That’d be soo freaking cute.

I just have this sinking bad feeling though that the wrong person is going to end up finding out what Hunter is and is going to use him against Sookie in the future. I hope I’m wrong, but I can’t shake that feeling.

And can I just say that the human FBI agent (Lattesta) gave me the willies more so than any of the supes in this book. Ugh.

      • 241 Natalie
        May 5, 2010 at 11:08 am

I just re read it…and it was not as “powerful” the second time but still sweet. I love this interaction Sookie and Claude have with Hunter. I think people will find out about Hunter…but that’s going to be sort of an Albotrose (sp?) for Sookie…I think she will do all she can almost to her detrament to protect him. Like she does for others.

However I love the note Eric left her
“My Lover, I came in too close to dawn to wake you, though I was tempted. Your house is full of strange men. A fairy upstairs and a little child downstairs–but as long as there’s not one in my lady’s chamber, I can stand it. I need to talk to you when I rise.” (ERIC)

I adore his nick name for her or how he addresses her is either My Lover or My Wife. I know Sookie does not like the My Wife one but both of those are just like “HELLO” for me. I mean sure beats Baby, Darln’, or honey. Seriously I melted both times reading that note he left her. Damn men need to write notes like that for women!

oh dear.. too many replies! i’ll be reading them after i post this…

i’m still on overload after i finished it two days ago. i think it’s a parallel of Dead to the world and Dead and Gone. Seeing the other side of eric left me confused. and it was kind of funny too. i was so thankful appius and alexei and the mean/confused fairy died at the end. i’m quite happy too that victor and felipe didn’t make much trouble here. although that would mean that we’ll get an overload of them on the next books. this is turning out to be one of my favorites especially because of the intimacy between eric and sookie despite the lack of sexy time. i too am dreading Sam’s wedding because first of all, she hasn’t told eric yet about it. i miss the possessive Viking on this book but i’m hopeful he will make a good comeback. he retrieved his mojo after all. and pam’s “fuck-a-zombie” is surely memorable!
though i’m quite intrigued with Appius’ line: ‘you won’t keep Eric, either’ (dang, that was mind boggling)

okay i’m gonna stop my rant and rumbling because i’m pretty sure i just repeated most of you..hehe.

and i quite agree with VampirePamsGirl on this line: (it’s now my super fave!)

“I love you,” Eric said in a drained voice, “And you are my wife, in the only way that matters to me.”

See I thought that line was more sweet than possesive. But that’s just me…as to me it showed he’s mellowed.

For some reason I just want Sookie to go all possesive on a Fang Banger sometime. I don’t know why just do. Seeing their growth is really showing how the other is effecting them. Meaning Eric is really getting Sookie’s traits and Sookie is getting some of Eric’s traits. (Really I’ve almost half way through my 2nd reading in 24 hours…really should sleep.)

***SPOILER ENDING**** i know some people haven’t finished the book so just a heads up

AHHH I knew Dermot wasn’t evil, I actually felt bad for him and glad things worked out. Now question is, why did Niall put a spell on him? Hmmm I knew Niall can’t be trusted, he told Sookie that Dermot is crazy but meanwhile it was his fault.

I KNEW the fairy after Sookie was the father of Claudine’s baby, I know some of us mentioned it on here. Also, glad to see we were right that Claude was there to protect Sookie. WOW 3 for 3 so far lol now just wish we knew more about Niall.

We didn’t get more info on FDC and Victor Madden like we expected, well more like the rat and exactly what went down the night of the fae war and Victor’s involvement.

I love this new mature Jason, and he seems to have learned alot more about the supe world. He was such a great brother in this book.

Now, I hated seeing Eric not his usual self towards end of book but I do love seeing the strong, take charge Sookie and it helps to show what a complete 180 she did from DAG, beginning of DITF and end of DITF. It also showed her love for Eric and how she can be strong for him. Also, how sweet was it when she wondered if Appius wanted money and she said if Eric needed her money from claudine and sophie-anne, he can have it.

Sookie has really learned to understand the blood bond in this book. She automatically knew how to read emotions and both her and Eric did so in a way that really helped their communication this time instead of causing confusion. I love how it works for their relationship now, I wanted the blood bond gone but now if they accept that they DO love eachother, it actually is sweet to see that bond between them.

      May 5, 2010 at 3:44 pm

After reading your post it made me think. Because Sookie took Alcide’s drug and could not “feel” through the bond Eric’s troubles until it started to wear off, maybe she will have some insight on how useful the bond is for them. I know in this book she started to seem like she might not want to get rid of the bond. I think somewhere she thinks to herself that she was starting to get used to it or something like that. This was before Appius and Alexei show up.

I, for one, was a bit disppointed in this offering from CH. I found some of the lines and characters repetitious – Hunter sounded like Barry the Bell Boy to me. Eric’s weakness sounded like DTTW. Claude was another house guest like Amelia. Some of the characters appeared on the page as if they were being trotted on. I don’t know. It was a let down. And could eric and sookie manage to move past lust and not believe that lust is a replacement for love? Move past “my lover”, will ya? And just because it’s meaningful to Eric that it is enough for him, It does not feel deep and satisfying to me – it feels like stasis.

I finished the book at 2 this morning! lol I’m exhausted! Okay, I really loved the first half of the book. I was squeeing almost all the way through it. I loved the last part where Eric and Sookie FINALLY tell EACHOTHER the words I’ve been waiting to hear – I love you! F***ck, FINALLY! 🙂 I loved their relationship in this book and they were very open with eachother. I also loved that he reproached her a little for belittling the marriage – it was the first time that Eric kind of let her have it for her “emotional smackdowns” when it comes to Eric. I loved when Eric told her he loved her and she’s his wife in the only way it counts to him (can’t remember the exact quote). I was annoyed with Sookie when she said she left that part out because she didn’t know what he meant. WTF Sookie? What do you mean you don’t know what it means?

I loved everything that had to do with Eric in this book – I loved that he told her he thinks about her from the moment he wakes; that he’s always thinking about her – even while he’s working which I know is a big deal for her because she complains a little about the time he’s spending at work. I also loved that she told everyone under the sun (including Sam and Bill) that she loves Eric. Loved that!! I was a little worried about Sam in this book but not really – I feel as if CH is just throwing him out there in order to give us something to worry about. I mean really Guys, he couldn’t even pay for their meal at the diner. He paid for his half only! lol Really Sam??? Geez! I loved how he just got through telling her wished she could find someone else and that and he was feeling like Eric wasn’t worthy of her love and YET HE CAN’T EVEN PAY FOR HER MEAL. Yeah, he’s not the HEA in my opinion.

Anyhoo, I am really pissed at Sookie during the second half of the book. I was really happy with her emotional and maturity progress in the first half but then when Eric’s Maker shows up I felt as if she took a huge step backwards. I felt she was very selfish in the last half of the book – during Eric’s ordeal. I mean come on, he’s going through a kind of emotional hell and she doesn’t call him? She’s pissed because he hasn’t come to see her or called? Really Sookie? Why couldn’t she just pick up the phone!! I felt she could have been more understanding instead of doing the “well if he won’t call me I won’t call him”. Meanwhile he really needed her in that moment – he was almost emotionally paralyzed because of his Maker. Sometimes I feel as if Sookie feels the world revolves completely around her.

Anyway, this was my first read so I might feel differently later and I really need to mull this over a little more. I might feel differently but right now I’m a little pissed at her and at CH.

    I shall return later. 🙂

YES YES YES I agree (very enthusiastically!! 🙂 I loved that Eric and Sookie were together and I loved the Eric has grown so much and is able to be so open with his feelings foe Sookie. Eric clearly loves Sookie. But it seems like Sookie only loves having sex with Eric. Will she only realize her true feelings when she no longer has him? Sookie KILLED ME, just KILLED ME at the very end. Eric is clearly putting everything on the line, he has been through hell and he says “you are my dearest” and all sookie can manage to say in return is “I’m glad to hear that”?!!

LaLa, I was disappointed in this book too. I read over some early posters comments on this page before I dove into my copy yesterday and everyone was so positive about the book, but I feel really mixed about it. Nothing is really resolved. AS USUAL. If we take the entire series into account, a lot has happened in the Sookieverse. But in each individual book, very little actually “happens” and I find that very frustrating, and quite frankly it makes me cynical. I suppose it is her writing style, we hear about Sookie’s da, her trip to the grocery store etc etc. But it makes me question if CH strings us along in this way b/c she doesn’t have enough reading material. Someone early on posted this was a “filler” book in the series, but there shouldn’t be any “filler” books in a quality series.

I think CH had an opportunity to really get into the FDC/Victor story and Latessta but she didn’t. And what about Niall and Sam?

Oh Sam! I am still worried aqbout sam. ok that is all, sorry for the rant

        May 5, 2010 at 5:57 pm

I think we will see the story with Victor/FDC, but probably in the next book. SHe is trying to build the suspense I guess. I don’t think she is going to ignore that whole situation, we did learn in this book that Victor is planning on discrediting Eric and we saw that two people were waiting for Sookie to get her, so they are still up to no good. I think if they did the whole Victor story in this book then would’ve been too much going on. That storyline will be a huge one, probably many people involved plus victor does need time to find something on Eric, Maybe next book it will focus on this. Again, same with Niall and Sam, they will happen in future books, again probably next book.

I like that we’re left guessing. It helps the books because it keeps you interested in coming back for more. They are mystery books so I think it’s wise for CH to leave things unsolved. I know it can get frustrating when we are so curious about something but does add to the anticipation for next book.

I am still waiting on my copy – but just wondering (as i am reading all the great comments) if CH explained why Eric did not save Sookie in DAG when she was being tortured and Bill came to her rescue instead.

Thanks in advance and love the discussions

Here i am….after reading this incredible book!
I can say i wait for this for a very very long time i guess as almost all of us…
CH give us what we wanted becouse she knows she cannot keep going avoiding the declaration of love becouse she knows how many people wait for them and that the story needed it and readers may get boring waiting…..it’s not a bad thing, actually i think it’s wonderfull what she did!!!

Eric and Sookie are a great couple, there is a lot of joy in them, respect, protection, LOVE, and they want to be together!!!
The Jump scene made me cry and i’m proud to said it as when Eric tells her “Who want a bag of bones?” i wanted to enter in the book and hug him so much for telling her such a great thing, she was insicure with her body and he really didn’t care about her bodu…for him she is perfect…and in a woman’s world a man who said something like that deserves to be loved!
The letter he left on the coffè machine was so sweet of him…..
Claude was the best…he wanted to enter in the closet just for a peek…he begged her!!!!!!
    God i laughed so hard!!!!

Bill…can we say is out of the run?YES!!!
This mean is a genious i guess…asking to make love to her for healing….i thought wtf?and then i was expecting someone cmes out of the book screaming Punked!!!
    Nice try Bill….

Sam is really a good friend and she needs him, she needs someone to talk her mess sometimes ans she can listen…maybe he still in love withe her bu i defenitly can tell you that he is and forever will be a good friend for her…he wuld like that Sookie didn’t date Eric becouse of the drama vampires bring but in the end he evn said he knows Eric cares deeply for her…Sam is a good guy and friend^^

Pam?GREAT!!!!!she really loves Sookie, becouse she is a good woman, loyal and very brave and becouse Sookie makes her maker very happy as she never saw him before….she is a good child….they really look like a family sometimes where the child accepts the new father’s wife!

Eric keep teling her she is his wife becouse he really feels she is….i guess he didn’t telle her that in his world vampirical marriage are not based on love but just business and that maybe she can be free if she want becouse she is not obliged to be faithful to him….becouse he’s scared she can run away again, he doesn’t want to lost her…he thinks that mayve even if she loves him she would choose a better life without him….and this makes me feel sad but also optimistic becouse in the very end she will call him Husband a day^^

Appius’ line “You won’t keep him Eric, either” simply means that Sookie had lost every man she cared for in her life, Bill, Quinn and Appius was just saying that she is not able to have a relationship since every man run form her…he was very stuoid becouse he doesn’t know her very well…..
Bu then?he send her the feeling to move and so Coleman kills him….did Appius just meet the final death willingly?i guees so!

Eric is free now a new sensation for hium, not considering Victor or FDC btw…..and Sookei is her dearest….gos this man almost killed me in this book!!!!
he was so human, even with his brother and Sookie saw him in a diffenet way, she knows he was doinf everything she would do for Jason too….

Many things are going ot happen now….Victor, Niall’s coming back….Quinn and so on….
But Sookie and Eric proves to us that together they can do basically anything!!!!!with Pam’s help too LOL

    May 5, 2010 at 12:17 pm

i don’t see them take a pause…not only becouse they don’t want but even becouse there are issue that need to be resolved:Victor.
Sam is really not a problem…since Bill now is quite aout of the run CH is just putting Sam in there giving him big space to makes people keep questioning becouse it’s quite obviuous Eric and Sookie want to be together no matter what….

So nope….Sam is not a problem…i think we kind of lile to create problems where they doesn’t exist..even CH said that EL’s love to worried about many things where there’s nothing to be scared for…that means something!

    May 5, 2010 at 12:18 pm

So I finished the book and I have to say, although I liked it as a whole, I’m at a loss how some things happened in the book. I mean how come a 100-year-old vampire can take on a 2000-year-old one (his sire to boot) and his brother who is 1000 years old and Pam and manages to escape? I know that Pam said he was very fast but this seems kinda extreme. Then he manages to wound his sire very severely and proceeds to attack two poweful fairies (BTW why didn’t the fairies just poof out to save their necks?). And if Appius wanted to keep Alexei in line why didn’t he just command him? Was Alexei somehow immnune to his call? That doesn’t seem plausible to me.
And Eric was very out of his element in this book. I guess the reason was to show he can be vulnerable too and that Sookie can pick up the reins and be a practical gal for a while. Nevertheless he has 1000 thousand years of unlife full of danger, crazy situations, plotting, murders and psycho killer encounters under his belt so the way he reacts seems sort of inxperienced. The variation factor might be his relationship with Sookie, he might be afraid for her, her emotions might throw him for a loop, I don’t know. He seems subdued – he is not possessive (at least not with his usual vigor), he does not demand answers (Hunter, Claude anyone?), he does not get indignant when somebody tries to kill the love of his life (Victor sending his cronies). He seems very low-key nad weary at the end. I also expected him to f*** Sookie senseless after consuming so much of fairy blood (or at least kiss her when he normally seems to be out of it and full of lust and passion after being around fairies let alone draining one). I just hope he finds his zest for life again as it is one of his essential features. He did have some in the beginning but it fades away quickly. Let’s just hope it won’t wear him down and that the high-spirited viking flirt will make appearance again.
Now Sookie on the other hand is one tough gal. Perhaps overly so sometimes. But I like this change in her. No human being could go through so many life-altering an devastating events and remain unchanged. Sookie has matured a lot and takes matters into her own hands when others are incapable (yea Eric, I’m pointing at you). There are times, though, when she takes ruthless to a whole other level – she seriously contemplated staking Appius eventhough she knew he was somewhat honorable and that Eric cared for him and did not wish his second death. Maybe she thought Eric would be better off without him – if that was the case then Eric was about to know what high-handed is from the other side of the hand :).
Claude and Jason are both nice suprises. Jason has really manned up.
Pam is her charming self as ever…nice to see at least one constant here.
The “jump” comment made my day as did all the other adorable banter between Eric and Sookie, would have been nice to have more of that.
Something about Niall and Preston seems fishy.
The end is very open and things remain unsolved….there is definitely a lot to anticipate. How long will it take Charlaine to write another book? The waiting is killing me….yet again. 🙂

      some very good points
i do remember in earlier books the vampire that was tormenting Tara resisted his makers call, but i think Eric said eventually he would have to obey, and Beehl has said he put off Lorena for some time too

i am pretty shocked Alexi was able to do that much damage too, surely the 3 of them could have taken him down

      • 265 VikingLover
        May 5, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Liz, I think the problem was that Alexie was draining both of them emotionally with his madness. Both Appius and Eric seemed to weakened because of him. I think that’s why he as able to do so much damage to all.

        • 266 Mishia
          May 5, 2010 at 9:44 pm

The emotional draining seems like a very possible theory. However I doubt Alexei would be able to resist s direct order from his maker…there is even a comment on it in the book:

“As I felt his fear roll through me, I understood that Eric had to physically perform whatever Ocella ordered him to do. Before, that had been an abstract concept. Now I realized that if Ocella ordered Eric to kill me, Eric would be compelled to do it.”

Come to think of it Sookie was quite spunky and forward when dealing with Appius. I mean the girl has balls and all but she did recognize his power over Eric and it didn’t stop her from being a tad disrespectful. Quite the opposite :).

So I guess Appius was kinda out of it if he didn’t realize he could simply order him to stay put. Or was he loosing his mojo? Maybe in the end it was just a way of getting Eric vulnerable no matter how unsound it appears. But it wouldn’t be the first time CH didn’t think something through. For example, did somebody notice that after the attack of Victor’s ass-kissers there was no further mention of Sookie’s bruised throat? I mean, Eric knew about it but when Sookie went to work the day after nobody noticed anything and Eric didn’t talk about it later, he didn’t check her throat for healing. Was the bruising already gone? Was it because Sookie was pumped with Eric’s blood? I don’t recall anybody saying anything about Sookie’s injuries from that point onward. I mean if a vampire wants to choke you to death you are supposed to end up with some major swelling and handprints, right? Unless I missed something?

1). I heart Jason Stackhouse! Before this, he didn’t really like the vampires, and Sookie’s relationship with Eric – yet he supports his sister unconditionally, going so far as giving the wounded Pam blood (who in this crazy world is what- sookie’s step-daughter and therefore Jason’s niece)

2). Fuck a zombie, Pam just effing rocks. Love that she is self actualized enough to know that she would have made a horrible human, but was born to be a vampire, a good vampire. Isn’t there a promised short story about her and Sookie’s road trip?

3). Sookie attempting to exert control over her world and attempting to come to an understanding with herself, and situations by analyzing the vampire political scenarios, living as vampire vs. human, Appius/Alexi/Eric predicament.

4). Bill and Alcide effectively being removed from the HEA race. “If you sleep with me I’ll feel better”, “A year ago you would have consumed unknown drugs without question”….Good riddance, douchebags.

5). How family issues, how our family effects us, and to what extent we will do things for our family were explored. (Did Appius essentially sacrifice himself at the end to save Sookie because of her role in Eric’s happiness? Or did he really want to end it because he lost Alexei, and after 200 years was done? I’d like to think the former.)

6). JUMP! Eric and Sookie – the realness of their relationship and partnership based on mutual respect and love. So glad they finally got here – and with 3 books ahead, there will be some trouble before the finale. However, with this kind of base, its going to take alot to crack the foundation.

    Troubled by:

1). Eric says that he doesn’t mind other men in the house, as long as they aren’t in her bedchamber. Yet, the book closes with Sookie in a fairy sandwich in her bed talking about being there with her blood. Eric is essentially her blood now too – what is he chopped liver? And again, with all that fairy blood in him at the end, the fact that he didn’t take her on the floor like a dirty Viking but gets back to business shocked me.

2). “You won’t keep him, either.” She approaches Appius with the intent of staking him but changes her mind. Does this mean that she’ll change her mind about Eric? Direct contrast to Naill saying “The vampire loves you”

3). Eric/Claude parallels – From the crazy outfits, both catching her in the shower, showing up at her doorstep to stay with her, to the identical, “I always tell you the truth, but it may not be everything (paraphrasing).” Not quite sure what this is supposed to mean…

Hmmm. I thought the HEA’s out of the running seemed to be Bill and Sam. Alcide picked another bad one and might redouble his efforts. When she was drugged she wanted to kiss him. I dunno….. I guess I still like Alcide as opposed to Sam. Not Bill though!

Yeah, the attic “bomb” has been waiting to be detonated for a while now. I kind of enjoyed how CH perversely dangled that right in front of not once but twice in DITF. It’s curious that Claude seemed anxious to help Sookie clean it out right then and there.

Yes. Very very shifty. Those faeries are not to be trusted. Not that I think he’s evil or out to hurt her…but they are definitely very sly. And, as I’ve said before, their morality is not human. And has never been human.

Just curious if anyone thinks the detailed breakdown that Eric gives Sookie about the Vampire hierarchy, (which her knowing it in this book didnt seem to have any relevance) could it possibly be a prelude to an upcoming major Summit in the next book? I hope so, as much as I love the whole Sookie/Eric storyline, I love it when CH takes us into that exclusive Vampire world. Since Felipe hasnt requested the use of Sookie’s talent yet, could it be (wishfull thinking on my part) CH is preparing us for an upcoming Vampire shin-dig? Lord have mercy!! the trouble Sookie could get into at a Summit, now that her and Eric are in love is endless. lol Would love to see Sookie and Eric working their strategery (as Bush would say). OH and Pam to of course. I cant get enough of Pam.

Will it be another year before she comes out with 11?
Gosh, I have no life. lol

The part where Sookie is mulling about whether or not she should be a vampire: there’s a loophole word CH uses – “usually” – as in, “vampie relationships ‘usually’ don’t last”, blah, blah, I’m paraphrasing. Ok, so Bill and Lorena were unusual. We know Eric does not approve of vampire + vampire. And we know CH has said ‘no’ for sookie as vamp. UNLESS CH can come up with some other Unusual arrangement to get this to work – the clock is ticking…

    • May 5, 2010 at 9:41 pm

I DO NOT want to see Sookie as a vampire. Someone said further up they’d riot if CH breaks E/S up. I will fucking riot if she does a Twilight and takes this complete cop out of an ending.

It just does not jibe with Sookie’s character, at all. Yes, Sookie is thinking about it. I am pleased to see her thinking about it, because in general I’m pleased to see that Sookie has finally started THINKING. It’s good that she’s thinking more long term and considering her options. But according to the mythology Charlaine has set up, vampire relationships do not last. They also involve a level of subversion/control that I do not want to see between Eric and Sookie. One of the best things about them is the fact that despite the differences between them in terms of physical power, hierarchical position etc…within their relationship they are equal. I would hate to see that messed up by him becoming her maker. NO WAY to Bill turning her, the idea of her being in that sort of relationship with him forever is just gutwrenching. Yeah, there’s Pam…maybe. But the whole idea of turning a girl who has a basic moral compass and has been struggling with that throughout the whole series, into a predator is just a total betrayal.

I would absolutely spit if she does this to Sookie. And I would feel similarly about Eric being changed human. But I don’t think she will do either of these things.

I don’t think that being a vampire (especially postRevelation) is incompatible with having a moral compass. However, I wholeheartedly agree about sookie not becoming a vampire. She doesn’t have to become a vampire in order for her and eric to have a “HEA.”

No one has really brought this up yet, I think, but I found it really interesting when Sookie was talking to someone, I think Alcide, about what would happen if she tried to get with another man, and speculating how Eric would feel about that, and determining that Eric would be none too happy. I wonder if this is a hint that she’s in it for the long haul with Eric? It makes me nervous, though, because I’m worried that if they do break up it’ll be one of those h”you have let the person you love go” moments. 😦 I will riot if CH messes with this couple! I know she says she writes what she wants and doesn’t take fan reaction into account, but I have to think she knows how popular Eric and Sookie are as a couple, and won’t break them up as a result. I know I’ll probably stop reading the books if she does.

Sorry that rant was long! I love the Viking too much :]

    May 5, 2010 at 7:28 pm

I started to read through the posts but I thought I’d go ahead and toss in my opinion about a few things.

    1. When Sookie was thinking about becoming a vampire, one of the reasons why she dismissed the idea was because she knew she wouldn’t be able to stay with Eric because everyone keeps saying that a child can’t stay with its maker for long. When she thought that, I yelled, “But if you asked Pam or Bill to do it, you’d be just fine!!” I think if Eric wants to make her a vampire, he’ll probably suggest another vampire, one he can trust, to turn Sookie…like Pam.

    2. I don’t think Sookie is pregnant. I read a spoiler that stated that Sookie was noting her stomach getting rounder and she was munching on things. There was a fixation on weight…but Sookie is always fixated on weight because she has a poor body image. And I didn’t see where she was munching on things. There was a flashback to Preston but I think CH may be setting up to bring Preston into the series and this is our foreshadowing.

    3. And it was just heartbreaking seeing Eric cry. He wasn’t crying over Bobby or the mess done to house or the damage to Pam, but his complete loss of control over the situation. Remember, Eric loves to be in control, and he isn’t. And Sookie had to snap him out of it, which I LOVED. I was SO cheering her on.

    4. My two favorite lines: “Fuck a zombie!” and “The colors told me so.” And if CH really does bring zombies into the mix, I’m going to die of sheer happiness.

I thought it was a mistake for Pam/Eric/Sookie to not call FDC immediately after that incident on the highway and ask for permission to kill Victor. There would have been enough evidence with that car being so close to BonTemp what their agenda was for being there. And that makes two times that Victor has endangered Sookie’s life and if FDC is a man of honor, then Victor has to die. Plus, FDC has to know that Victor is way too ambitious.

  89. May 5, 2010 at 9:28 pm

I don’t consider Sam to be threat. I think it will be Eric or nada. She has always considered Sam to be a very good friend and has admired his body, but the essential spark of passion is not there. She has known for a long time that she could be with Sam if she wanted to be.
