3.01 Bad Blood – True Blood Season Premiere!

The Viking cometh once again to pillage your village...and make your other half wish every month was June.

Waiting has most certainly SUCKED, and nine torturous months is long enough. We’ve chewed up and spat out every True Blood spoiler and scrap, and when there was nothing official to go on – hell, we just made it up ourselves!

True Blood returns in around 12 hours, and this post has no purpose other than for us to fangirl (and fanboy), rage, and theorise as the the third season of Alan Ball’s “popcorn for smart people” is unleashed upon our already fragile and completely spoiled to-hell-and-back psyches.

As some of you know I’m not in the US and that makes it a little difficult to do episode recaps. Rest assured though, I will be kept up to speed via Twitter and my usual trusty spoilery sources until season 3 airs here in around 8 weeks time.

Even though I can’t recap, the archaic business model of corporate cable television will not be permitted to fuck with you getting your fix. Nuh-uh. To that end, I’m really excited to announce that our very own resident US Truebie, MASpencer will supply a weekly episode recap for us to screech and squee over. No doubt there’ll be some ranting and swearing involved too. Make sure you check in for these starting this coming Tuesday.

I’ve had so much fun tossing speculation around with all of you over the last six months – SVB readers are some of the coolest and most intelligent Truebies around. And if I can be a sap for just a second, I want to say thank you for the hilarity, and the insights. You have truly enriched my understanding and appreciation of this show.

So before we dive headlong into the insanity and teeth gnashing of the next 12 weeks, I guess I have only one thing left to say.

Alan Ball – if I get no other satisfaction this season, you have better give me a damn good reason for the hot mess you’ve made of Eric’s hair.

Just sayin’.

You know, such dieing with anticipation seams more suitable for my own wedding or something… Scratch that, I would probably remain perfectly calm then, while I’m totally freaking myself out with fangirling right now! Yay!!!

I’m pretty sure I’m more excited about tonight then I was for the Birth of my children. What does that say about me. lol

The same thing it says about me, apparently! See, then we knew that joy AND very hard work would await us… tonight? Nothing but pure pleasure! 🙂 That’s my justification, and I’m stickin’ to it!

Works for me! Besides, one only gets married like what? 5-6 times? there’s 12 episodes in one season alone, so by this rate, I can actually delude myself in thinking I have a very busy love life…

Yes, less that 12 hours until the vddiction continues. I can hardly contain myself. Viking Vampire Sex God tonight in all of his Skargoodness. I am taking bets on whether the gracious plenty will make an appearance. I found it quite odd that Alan Ball has been allowing all these pics of the naked Viking already before the premiere. Is he desensitizing us to the actual events that will be shown in the dungeon. Hopefully something so much better?

Now why would Alan Ball do that? I mean the Viking naked is big ratings. Right? Or does he have something even bigger that he will be unveiling tonight?? Gracious plenty anyone? Gratuitous sex and violence. Helll yes! This is True Blood after all.

Well whether or not it does, I will be on the edge of my seat watching and listening to every little morsel that Alan Ball will be dishing out tonight.

    • June 13, 2010 at 12:58 pm

This is a valid point pbt. I too found it odd that so much of that scene was released prior to the episode.

All I can say is that if the GP makes it’s big screen debut tonight, the internet will most likely break for a week.

HOW FUCKING AWESOME would that be, I ask you?

I mean nothing is by chance on this show. Alan Ball and his marketing team have been busy at work for the past several months building the anticipation for this show. Like we needed more to keep us interested.

But I feel somehow he is trying to make it no big deal seeing Eric naked already. Why?? Let’s face it. As Americans (not talking about other countries) we are the most uptight Puritanical people about sex. Well some of us are. I do not include myself in this group. Those who know me best are laughing about that statement. But really, Alan Ball has a purpose here.

I will be wildly indignant if he doesn’t show us the gracious plenty tonight. Natasha Alam got to see it in all of its glory. She spoiled that Alexander was right out there and didn’t have a care in the world. So Alan Ball make it happen.

I was never so disappointed last year with the editing of the dream/sex scene with Eric and Sookie. To not show that entirely beautiful arse and show only Sookie’s breast. I mean really editing crew. I know you want to build the suspense to see it but it just reeked of censorship in my mind.

Or it sould be that they wanted it to be sensual and erotic rather than just porn? IMO the point was to show intimacy rather than just sex – overload the nekkid parts and the message is lost.

            June 13, 2010 at 1:29 pm

I will go with the sensual and erotica but not intimacy. That will be reserved for when the Viking is with Sookie. Like what we saw in Season Two. Pillow talk with Eric and Sookie. Too funny. Much closer to the books.

This scene still has me personally a bit worried as to why Alan Ball is taking this direction with the Viking. I know one of the themes is identity and being broken so I will chalk it up to that.

Messages I would totally agree. There is always so much more under the surface of this show.

        • June 13, 2010 at 1:47 pm

Be happy pbt, at least you’ll be watching Eric’s butt tonight. That’s for sure!! 😉

I have to wait until tomorrow to see the premiere… Hopefully my laptop won’t fail me.
          Gee, I can’t wait.

Funny that speculation was that Eric would be rude if he talked to Sookie if Yvetta was there in the DOD…but my impression, Yvetta doen’t speak much English. She had no clue. Frankly if you were tied up and fucked silly by the Viking, would you give a rat’s ass?

After 6 hours straight of the GP, Yvetta was probably glad to catch her breath anyway. My guess is that they are not going to give us a FF of Eric this season. No way are they going to give us what we want just yet. OMG–it’s going to be the shower scene with Amnesia Eric! (Assuming that is all included in the show. Damn them to hell if they don’t.)

It would not surprise me at ALL if his GP makes a surprise appearance. In fact, I pretty much expect that is what AB has up his sleeve. I predict right along with you that we will get more than what has been in the spoilers.

        June 13, 2010 at 3:05 pm

It would be likely it it wasn’t US TV. Even if it’s a apid cable channel, there’s only so much people will accept in an environment where the age of the viewers can’t really be controlled. it would be unexpected to see, yes, and we’d all be on our knees thanking for the gift but…too good to be true, I think.

    • June 13, 2010 at 4:41 pm

i’ve discussed the possibility of the unveiling of the GP with some of my friends, and our consensus was that we would prefer not to see the doodle. gratuitous cheek shots and man-handles and everything else will be just fine 😉

Plus I think given the fact that she catches him in the middle of banging Yvetta, he’d have to be in a certain…*ahem*..physical state when she’s speaking with him. I highly doubt they would show that. lol Or maybe he calms down a bit but still, I think it would be a bit weird. But I could be wrong and I hope I am ’cause I’m a dirty perv. 🙂

Well who is to say he is “banging” Yvetta. There are so many delectable things the Viking could be doing other than that. Right? Premium cable televisions show the gracious plenty all the time. And why do we think that seeing a penis on television is porn. I know you didn’t say that someone else did.

Personally I think it would be great. Smiling broadly from ear to ear. Well I can at least dream that they do.Raising a glass of merlot and about to have bbq before the premiere. I figured steaks were a good choice tonight. LOL.

Three hours to go girls! Squeeeee! I can barely contain myself. On line chat during the episode if you are so inclined to join us at ericsarea5. Lots of Viking lovers.

I just choose to look at the credits as them saving the best for last, lol, except that they screwed up and put DAW last instead of KBVS, not dissing DAW at all because I love her, but for me Alex/Eric and Kristin/Pam are the absolute best.

They just use alphabetical order after SM and AP. Thats why AS is so far down the line. It has nothing to do with how much they are in the show.

            June 14, 2010 at 4:56 pm

Oh, now i see that they list Rutina, Ryan, and Sam right after. Well that blows. I dont really get why they decided to make Tara and Jason mains in the first place. I think that was stupid. Id rather Lafayette be a main over either of them. Whatever. At least AS is getting a lot more screen time. He has a lot more scenes.

        June 14, 2010 at 2:58 am

This really irritates me. I don’t know why I was holding out hope that the credits would change for this season. It’s still the five mains and everyone else alphabetically. It doesn’t seem fair to me that they refuse to add any mains so if a character wasn’t a main character from the beginning of the show, that character will always remain second-tier. It’s been made abundantly clear from all of the promotion for this season that Eric is one of the three main characters, at least for promotional purposes. They even had two separate clips in the preshow where characters described themselves and past events from their POV. The two characters were Sookie and not Bill, not Sam, not Jason, not Tara, but Eric. No other characters got an individual spot like that. Yet, he’s still not considered a main character to the story…pffft!

Yes I know, it’s so fu***** weird!!! They’ve showed us so much of Eric from promos and stills/pictures and still AS is credited way back???

          June 14, 2010 at 3:11 am

That blows: objectifying him like that. Seriously, though, at this point they are really getting advantage of his good manners. The guy sells, so the least u could do is to give him SOME credit, AB, it would only be appropriate! WTF?
Funny, because I was asking this exact question a couple of days ago, here, about AS status on the show… I guess now we know!

          • June 14, 2010 at 3:16 am

I am SO pissed off about this.
Askars needs to find himself an agent with a big set of brass balls.
Because if he walked away from that show, a good chunk of the audience would walk with him.

            • 48 Jo
              June 14, 2010 at 3:31 am

Askars is a person without vanity, he is simply happy and grateful to be in a show, I do not think he thinks that detail, it is clear that the obligation of his agent. But as he signed a contract for seven years in which these details must be resolved, I do not go changing. Although he is one of the greatest assets of the show, if not the greatest.
I am also very upset, although I had expected.

              • June 14, 2010 at 3:52 am

These things are always re-negotiable. The reason this speculation started in the first place was because he renegotiated his contract, got a raise and a new agent last year.

            • 50 legalease
              June 14, 2010 at 3:31 am

Didn’t he get a new agent last summer and negotiate a new contract? You would think that a bump up in the credits would have been part of the new deal. They so know how important he is to the show or he wouldn’t be front and center in everything that they do.

I thought when he wasn’t listed third, he’d get the “and…” end credit. No such luck. Still stuck there next to last.

On Sunday, 02 November 2008 Alan Ball, when asked about Eric said to Media Blvd Magazine:

“He is a huge character in the series. He is definitely a big part of the show. He’s a series regular”.

And today in an article in fancast.com about the writing process of TB he said:

“So we look at what the books have and figure out a way to give all of other major characters stories that will somehow fold into the main story, the Sookie/Bill story”.

          1+1=2…

            June 14, 2010 at 4:11 am

Here’s the thing that I find consfusing. They seem to have him lumped in with the recurring folks rather than with the season regulars. The credits list all the regulars first and they seem to cycle through the recurring folks. I think AB himself said that Akars was now a series regular and that he’d would be in every episode of season 3. Seems like they left the credits untouched from last season with no changes as all … Not sure if this is just laziness on the part of HBO or what.

I suspect Askars doesn’t really care or may just be taking the high road on this one. The press really seem to be calling him out at the breakout star of the series and that could be a little uncomfortable – especially on a show that has such a strong ensemble cast. He isn’t listed at the top of the credits but he certainly is at the top of all the headlines I’ve seen running.

[He isn’t listed at the top of the credits but he certainly is at the top of all the headlines I’ve seen running.]

But AB is a bitch and don’t want to give him the credit he deserves.

From what I can tell there are main characters, regular characters, and recurring characters. The mains are the first five listed. The regulars are everyone else in the opening credits. The recurring are listed in the closing credits. So ASkars is a regular but not a main character. Despite the fact that AS, NE and DAW have been featured in the minisodes, cast poster, and interviews, they are not considered main characters.

At least three-fourths of the media reviews that I’ve read over the last few weeks feature an Eric/Sookie pic with the article. The triangle is featured on the freakin’ cover of Entertainment Weekly. They chose two characters, out of about a million on this show, to focus on for character spots during the preshow and these characters were Eric and Sookie. From everything I can tell, Eric has his own story this season and is heavily featured in the vampire politics story which seems to be the overarching story for the season. Yet, this show still doesn’t view Eric as a main character and ASkars as one of the main actors? I just don’t get it.

Wheee! Tonight, 8:45: it is ON. Supposedly, there’s to be some 15-minute “pre-show” thing. The big challenge will be getting my night owl of a child into bed well before that time. And it’s my turn to do the bedtime routine, which involves cuddling DS to sleep. And then I fall asleep. And my husband doesn’t wake me up. If this happens tonight, he (husband) will be set upon by a marauding Eric-obsessed female berserker.

Thanks in advance for the recaps, MASpencer. 🙂 Looking forward to reading everyone’s thoughts on each epi.

My hopes for this season involve lots of Viking scenes, and enough character development to make up for the sucking void that was last season’s maenad plot. Can’t. Wait.

I know, I don’t understand why it’s not released around the world during the same period. It doesn’t make any sense. HBO should also allow you to dl them onto your comp for a price – similar to iTunes. Or let you buy it and then stream it w/o dl’ing it (similar to Hulu). They would make a helluvalot of money that way – especially if they added some advertising. It just doesn’t make any sense really.

Me too Pie and Dazedrose – I am gutted they aren’t showing this at least within a week of the US broadcast (with the final season of BSG we got it within a day I think, which was testament to its huge popularity – I will posit that TB is even more popular so I just don’t get it……as Eric would say; poorly played Foxtel, poorly played)

I have a few plan A’s and B’s up my sleeve for getting my hot little hands on these eps

In the meantime, I will be glued to my laptop reading every scrap this fab site has to offer, go MAS!) and no doubt loving the ensuing commentary…

This is very frustrating. I’m at Caloundra at the moment and will be on the highway driving home at the time TB airs so I won’t be able to “watch” it via Twitter. If ever I needed a reason to get an ipod, this is it! Drat! However once I arrive home this afternoon I will make it my business to find a way to get my Viking-obsessed paws on a copy of this ep. Never underestimate the determination of an obsession-deprived Australian, Foxtel/Austar! Have Google/broadband; will download! *grins*

            • June 13, 2010 at 10:50 pm

Sweetie… i’ve been informed by the hubby that i’m not even allowed to live stream it cos of our download limit. We have under 10gb left this month lol. So shouldn’t’ have brought a new laptop at the beginning of the month. So he won’t be dl it till off peak, which is 1am Tuesday morning. So i’ll have it Tuesday at least.

Me, three. Unfortunately I’ll be on the road driving home from Caloundra at the time it airs and won’t be able to “watch” it on Twitter; if I ever needed a reason why I need an i-pod, this is it! Anyway, when I get home this afternoon I plan to devote all my considerable obsession-fired energies towards getting a copy of the ep. *raises Eureka flag and grins defiantly*

I would think that’s only logical, it doesn’t make any sense live-streaming for those that already should be able to see it on HBO, the most “legit” way of watching TB. The only way this makes sense to me is if this gives an opportunity to other fans outside US that wouldn’t have a chance otherwise to avoid excessive spoiling up to downright losing their patience… THAT sucks!

                      June 13, 2010 at 6:10 pm

I think by the point they reach that kiss, he’s a goner. He’s falling for her hard because the way he’s kissing there seems like helluvalot more than just sex. He wants her bad! lol

Hmmm, I’m at such a loss as to which ep that could be. I’m thinking 4 or 5. I really don’t think that’s the supposed “intense scene” AB mentioned. I have a feeling that’s going to be whatever happens at the mansion.

                      June 13, 2010 at 6:48 pm

I agree, VL. Thinking this is four since we get introduced to Alcide in 3 and Sookie makes her first visit to Lou Pines in that same episode. Assuming she gets into an altercation there with the Swayze were, fast forward to 4 and we pick up what happens a. later that night or b. the following night. I’m thinking since she’s wearing a robe in the kissing scene, she’s probably getting ready for bed or crying into her pillow after visiting the club and getting Bill’s phone call.

What would be really hot is if he senses Sookie’s distress when she gets involved in that altercation at Lou Pines and comes to Alcide’s to make certain she’s okay.

I am writing Alan Ball to express that I do not give a rats ass about the Bill character or what happened to him and tell him my real feelings about the show. I want to encourage the AE storyline for season four and prove to him that 70 percent of fans would like the same. Join me:
    Alan Ball
    United Talent Agency
    9560 Wilshire Blvd.
    Suite 500
    Beverly Hills, CA 90212-2401

If I get the email address I will post it too.

    • June 13, 2010 at 11:14 pm

New article out today in which Alan Ball talks about the TB writing process.

He says the first thing they start with is the books. Then he says they look for stories for the other characters that “fold into the main story – the Sookie and Bill story”.

I will be putting this address to good use, I feel.

No worries, if for AB Beehl is the male lead, he’ll probably kill him off at some point during the series. Apparently, he does that, it’s his kink! He must have stopped CH from writing it ’cause he wouldn’t have been able to use it, it wouldn’t have been “unexpected” for the book readers. Never mind that it would have been appreciated never the less!
I pretty much couldn’t care less for verbal etiquettes, he can call it whatever, as long as he delivers! Heard him also say he was a big fan of the SEXUAL attraction between E/S! Well, for now I can be contented with that, as long as things evolve along “with the spirit of the books”…

Right there with you on this one Gigi. I’m hoping things will change because if I have to witness another season of St.Bill I may have to use the above address to send an envelope full of vomit to AB to express my feelings on his precious Beehl.

          June 14, 2010 at 3:11 am

Clearly AB is not reading the same books I’m reading. I can only hope that he is trying to not give anything away by sticking to the description of Sookie and Bill being the main storyline. He is supposed to be staying with the spirit of the books! If Sookie and Bill are still together at the end of season 3, I will be furious!

          • 167 Kathy
            June 14, 2010 at 3:54 am

Sorry to say, but I feel sure they will be. AB wont have Bill do anything that is a deal breaker. My guess is they’ll even find a way of explaining the procurement that will satisfy Sookie. If Eric gets amnesia it will definitely go down differently than the books. Need to surprise us bookies right? If he stays with Sookie it will be completely platonic. That’s my guess.

          • June 14, 2010 at 12:53 pm

The first books he read were 1-4 I read in an article, so I am guessing he had latched onto Bill as good guy before we learnt about Bill as QSA’s bitch in book 5 and hense the Bill Lurrrvveee

          • 169 Ashley
            June 14, 2010 at 5:16 pm

Well they cant be together for that much longer. AB never keeps couples together in his work. Six feet under everyone broke up or died. I dont think its going to keep going this way. EVen AB says to the BLs that happy relationships wont last so dont get comfortable and enjoy it while you can. Bill and Sookie are doomed. The BLs are so focused on him saying their love is real that they dont get that doesnt mean they wills stay with each other.

    VikingLover
Alexander Skarsgard and Stephen Moyer have agreed to a “Battle of the Fang” for their fans to put the money where their hearts are. Instead of arguing which vamp is better they are raising money for their charities. Whichever team raises more money for their charity wins. the losing vamp has to wear a t-shirt designed by the winning team.
Is it ok to post the web adress for the Charity Battle of the Fang?

Hi Aposmeal! That’s very interesting and lovely! Yes, go ahead and post it. I’ll leave it in moderation for a bit, until SVB gets online tonight, since she might actually want to create a new post for it maybe. If not, it will appear here, in this post. 🙂

        Here it is Viking Lover
Battle of the Fang for Charity

        http://askarsgard.com/?page_id=13407

Since True Blood has decided to amp up season 3, we’ve decided to amp up the Team Eric vs. Team Bill rivalry. Instead of wasting your breath in a heated, “My vamp is better than your vamp”, debate, put your money where your mouth is honey.

Join us as we battle! It’s the Viking Lovers against Bill’s Wick’d Women, in a Looziana Grudge Match charity throw down! We have some items coming up for the fund raiser that you’ll love but that’s not the best part…

Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgård have both agreed to wear a T-shirt designed by the winning actor and their team – and be photographed wearing it!

Therefore, if you don’t want to see your beloved Eric Northman (Alexander) walking around in a Moyer’s Muffin T-shirt then join in the fun! Let’s put Steve in a Mrs. Skarsgård T-shirt!

        June 14, 2010 at 2:29 am

It’s such a weird scene, the queen looks all depressed, what is she being punished lol. So is Sookie at the queens place or does Eric see Sookie somewhere else after he leaves? She has to be there though right?

        • 224 legalease
          June 14, 2010 at 3:04 am

Maybe Russell has already arrived at her palace and taken over? I can’t imagine that after tonight’s episode Eric would shed a tear for QSA, but perhaps he’s being kinder to Hadley. It’s impossible to tell anything from that clip.

Also, right after that shot, there was a shot of a man chained up on a floor and bleeding, and a woman on her knees possibly crying. It looked like it could be Lorena, but I’m not sure. The man had dark hair, but I couldn’t tell if it was Bill.

          • 225 Dee
            June 14, 2010 at 3:07 am

I couldn’t see that scene well, I did see the one where Bill punches Lorena.

Curious how Eric gets blood on his blue sweater in that scene.

            • 226 legalease
              June 14, 2010 at 3:12 am

I bet the punch leads into the “twisted” hate fuck. Ah, Bill/Lorena dysfunction FTW! About the blood, I’m not sure. We all thought the blue sweater scene was Russell’s mansion and now it turns out to be QSA’s palace, so I have no clue.

              • 227 Dee
                June 14, 2010 at 4:40 am

I don’t think the twisted sex scene happens after the punch because when he punches her he has his shirt off already and in the twisted scene he has a shirt on. Also Lorena is dressed differently. If anything maybe it’s after and Lorena put on a robe.

Well, he must have known, since he was using his bluetoothy thing in the basement.. Man, I need to rewatch season 2, what did they talk about in Eric’s office? “Sookie must be protected” .. QSA might know he has suspicions beyond what Bill ever told her,.. no wonder she is setting up Eric with the blood.

    • 239 Gigi
      June 14, 2010 at 3:08 am

That only proves that in TB, Eric is the same that Bill is, a pawn in SA’s hands. And the growls between them proves there’s no loyalty at all (like in the books), just business. If he wanted to keep his job as Sherrif, he has to do her dirty job. Because she’s the Queen and he is just her employee. Of course… all in the spirit of the books and without messing the cores of any carachter… yeah, right.

      June 14, 2010 at 3:06 am

Yes the spoilers were clearly mostly from the first episode LOL 😉
And we’ve all linked them together and made the first episode in here. But really I can’t wait for episode 2, because that’s where E/S are suppose to spend most of the episode together.

    • 246 legalease
      June 14, 2010 at 3:21 am

Yeah, they pretty much either released the actual clips or spoiled the other scenes so much that there weren’t really any surprises. I did think it moved pretty fast though and I enjoyed being back with these characters and immersed in this crazy, crazy world.

I’m rolling my eyes at Bill. They knock him down one rung on the hero ladder and then build him back up 3x as high. I mean, did he have to leave her the money as well? It’s still not sweet to me, just creepy. Oh, and I was laughing throughout the Bill/Sam scene. Bill/Sam has oodles more chemistry than Bill/Suckeh. I was just waiting for the porn music to start!

      • 247 Freyja
        June 14, 2010 at 3:27 am

Oh come on, the poor old lady. He drank her blood, a frail old woman with low oxigen and probably few people that visit her, her son didn’t even visit so often clearly. I thought that was just cruel and not saintly. This is for people to speculate over like in the minisode, is it right for him to do or wrong.

        • 248 legalease
          June 14, 2010 at 3:42 am

Yeah, it strikes me the same way as the minisode, creepy and douchey, but I’ve already seen it being described as a sweet gesture by fans who aren’t BLs. And it was in the middle of nowhere and he had no other victims there from which to choose, so the show is still giving him tons of outs.

Oh, I fully expect Bill’s actions to grow more ambiguous as the season progresses, I just had to groan a little at this. I did find it interesting the way they focused on his shoes as he approached her. I know they were going for the audience fake out, but it still reminded me of a serial killer.

          • 249 Gigi
            June 14, 2010 at 3:55 am

HAHHAHAHHAHAHHA a merciful serial killer? MEH!
            That’s just more Ballshit…
In TB Bill’s ambiguity will grow the same as Eric’s, you can count on that. That’s AB plot device and his strategy. To prove that both are equal and no one of them is better than the other. After what I saw today, I have no doubt at all.

I know, she was so fragile she could’ve had a heart attack right as he went for her. I don’t care what he did after, he didn’t seem like he was in that bad shape.

The lady is on oxygen…having blood taken from her cant be too good in her condition. The money doesnt really fix her health. Plus it was all an illusion not reality. I saw it as a way for Bill to ease his guilt because he fed on someone in such a bad state. It eased his conscience to give her money.

        June 14, 2010 at 2:12 pm

I didn’t think the money was redemptive *at all*. He steals the frail old woman’s blood, glamors her to steal her memory and implant his lies, then he throws a little cash at her as though that makes up for what he’s done. And, I wonder just whose cash it was anway? Where does Bill Compton get his money? Bah!

I certainly have a particular point of view, eh?

          June 14, 2010 at 2:27 pm

I want to know how much money he gave her, 100 bucks? 200? Say he gave her 200, how much did Eric give to the blood whore who was willing? Prob a lot more. And a bottle of True Blood runs 45, whatever he gave her was below market value… but needless to say, I agree, KC. The pleasant memory is merely a way to cover his tracks and throwing money at her afterwords doesn’t mean he didn’t commit the crime. To me makes it worse, its just a payoff for her silence. Its not a heartfelt apology at all. He would have called her son afterwords if he was sincere. I think thats just the way he runs his cons, he has to appease a minor twinge of conscience so he can believe what he did was justified.

I know it is petty but I was very disappointed not to see Askars up higher in the credits this year. Still dead last – which leads me to believe that AB is still all about Bill.

Unfortunately, it is not petty, it’s just plain unfair! He’s a fan favourite, they got all the hype going with the promos that mainly showed him (’cause they sure as hell didn’t manage to get anything going with that sorry excuse of posters), he should be credited for that. He deserves a F***g award, a raise and a spin-off!

      • June 14, 2010 at 3:49 am

That’s what fair pisses me off.

They whore him out all over the place to promote this fucking show and they KNOW he sells it. If he didn’t they wouldn’t bother doing it. They SHOULD give him the recognition he deserves for that, whether he wants it or not.

Well but the AS getting credits etc. has to do with contracts and things like that. We don’t know what gets discussed behind closed doors. For me, as long as they give him enough screen time, and his story arch progresses it’s fine with me. Other than that, it’s up to his agents as to how that crapola works. lol It seems to me that they have amped his storyline and he’s become a major character on the show – everything we saw was related in some way shape or form to Eric. We saw more from him in this ep than in all the eps put together last season! lol I’m exaggerating but you know what I mean. That for me is enough! 🙂

Well, he already won the Scream Award for 2009 Best Villian thanks to Alan Ball, so… hel’ll probably win it again this year. 🙄

I’m so piss he wasn’t even nominated for Generation Kill… what only proves that he didn’t have the Hollywood “pull” then. Perhaps this year he will be recognized as the great actor he is. That is, if AB “allows” it…

      June 14, 2010 at 6:58 pm

Actually Skarsgard’s before Deborah Ann Woll. The five leads – Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammel, Ryan Kwanten and Rutina Wesley are the five leads so they appear first in the credits. The other series regulars follow in last name in alphabetical order. I imagine Ball is going to turn Bill into a major douche this year before promoting Alexander Skarsgard to lead in Season 4.

I think I recalled Ball saying that they were going to show a really dark side to Bill this year and make Eric less so.

Well I don’t know about anyone else but I loved it!! It f***ing rocked! That episode was jam packed with good stuff – not like last season where you had a lag between some of the scenes. Although during my second viewing I did fast forward through Bill’s scenes. lol

I loved that Dee was right (way to go Dee!) – QSA did say “let him rot”!! I’m so shocked! My head is spinning right now – why wouldn’t she care??? Also, did anyone see the looks exchanged between Yvetta and the Magister? Then Yvetta and QSA? I can’t figure out which one sent her because they made BOTH of them pay attention to her! Grrr! I have to watch it again.

Oh man, poor Eric. QSA is setting him up for a big fall. She had his office bugged! I was like, what! I loved when they were walking the Magister out and QSA says “what happens when you find him” and then Eric adds “or HER”. lol

Oh, and I loved that most of the scenes we’ve seen in the promos were from the early eps because it leads me to think that there is A LOT we have not been shown. I am so freaking excited for ep 2!

I am very excited. This is just the beginning! Apart from the creditlist I loved the show 🙂 I mean this is just the first show and already we’ve seen almost half of the promos what do you think they will have more for us to see 😀 I can’t wait for next episodes!!!

    • 273 Dee
      June 14, 2010 at 4:09 am

Yeah QSA just didn’t care at all about Bill missing lol. She didn’t even threaten Eric not to look for him either though, she just says she doesn’t care. Well like she points out, Bill only knows about Eric so why should she. The IRS thing was a bit of a surprise, didn’t see that one coming lol.

QSA and Yvetta did give eachother a weird look. I think she just might be her spy, especially considering that QSA even bugged Eric’s office. Would show why she also wouldn’t care if Yvetta heard the conversation. Sometimes first instincts are right, that was my first impression of her. But we don’t know if it’s true though so I shouldn’t say that haha.

“or HER” part was great, you know he is hoping she gets caught lol

Eric gave Pam some dirty looks for letting Sookie come down in the basement lol. I wish they revealed how much he gave Sookie.

        June 14, 2010 at 4:27 am

Dee, you’re right – she wouldn’t care because Eric would take the fall. I felt so sorry for him when she just walks away leaving him holding the bag. She should care though because Eric isn’t going to go down without a fight. She must know that. But what about the edict??? Wouldn’t she want him found just for that? Also, the Magister isn’t going to just take her word that she didn’t know anything about it. He seems like he would be pretty thorough in his investigation. Plus she seemed afraid of him. My head is spinning! I’m starting to come around to MAS’ theory that QSA and Russell are working together. Her little speech: “how long will we be subjected to rules” (can’t remember the exact quote) made me think of Russell’s little plan.

        • 275 Freyja
          June 14, 2010 at 4:32 am

I’m starting to think they are working together too. She didn’t even seem surprised that Bill was missing, and to careless and that means she has already had other plans to take Sookie.

          • 276 Serena
            June 14, 2010 at 5:20 am

But why Franklin Mott then? Assuming Lorena has his ear, if Russell wanted to he could just tell QSA to fess up about it or no deal, since in this circumstance he is the lender, he could put any stipulation on it he wanted.. Maybe the Queen views it as a good thing that Bill is gone, his involvement with the edict is only really dangerous if Eric finds out about it (he’ll warn Sookie), if Russell does find out, he doesn’t have any rights to Sookie because she is not in his area, it becomes a matter of jurisdiction.

I’m starting to doubt FM finds out about the edict at all, and instead finds out about the V, maybe Laffayette lets something slip to Tara..

She does have alternative plans to get to Sookie, Hadley and Hunter.

          June 14, 2010 at 4:32 am

VL-I think she really might just be crazy and is not thinking straight lol. Explains why Russell’s plan will appeal to her and she might go for it. He kept looking at her like she was an idiot, he couldn’t believe that she thought the Magister bought their story.

Well I don’t know if she would personally care if people found out about the edict. She probably thinks she can find another way to get her but who knows.

            June 15, 2010 at 12:40 am

        June 14, 2010 at 5:51 am

So, unless I’m missing something, QSA is dealing V just for the money?? That seems a bit underwhelming. I was expecting some greater plot elements at work there. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how it all unfolds. But seems odd that vampire of her years wouldn’t have vast (and diversified) assets on which to draw. Selling vampire blood would be an act of absolute desperation or perhaps it is just further evidence of the mental instability of QSA. That said, nice to know that even vampires are afraid of the IRS – eh?

        • 280 Dee
          June 14, 2010 at 6:10 am

The IRS are the scariest it seems. The mob murdered, drug deals, laundering money and many got away with it. Once they didn’t pay their taxes though wow that is when they went down lol. Again, I see a lot of mob similarities this season on the show and the whole IRS part now makes it even more so.

I thought the Sam/Bill scene was utterly hilarious. While I realize it was just a dream sequence, I don’t know why but I’ve always picked up a vaguely repressed homoerotic undercurrent to Bill’s personality (especially in his interactions with Eric.)

As for Sam…meh. He’s my least favorite character on TB. He’s about as interesting as reading the direction on a packet of Ramen noodles.

Agree. I don’t hear many people questioning how much of Sookie’s feelings for Bill are the result of the blood. What is more disturbing to me is that AB doesn’t have Sookie herself questioning how Bill’s blood may have influenced her feelings or motivations. This seems like it would have been an incredibly OBVIOUS question that would have formed in her mind after she tasted Eric’s blood and Bill explained to her what that meant and the Eric dreams kicked in for her. Sookie isn’t supposed to be stupid.

Well I’m assuming Sookie will question it but in later eps. Maybe it will take the revelation of the edict for her to look back and really “see” Bill. Unfortunately right now Sookie doesn’t question ANYTHING – hence the Laf/Tara/Sookie minisode. She is, to use the Viking’s words: “blindly obssessed” with Bill. Even the Viking sees that! lol

                  June 14, 2010 at 11:50 am

Seriously, QSA is just a mad queen trafficking V for money, why? she must have other sources of income, this is simply ridiculous. QSA is just a cartoon villain, just crazy, how she became queen is a mystery. There are other more subtle ways of showing it to impose its power to Eric than jumping on it, showing their fangs and grabbing his balls, it was pathetic.
I do not like ERW but do not think the fault is hers, but the cartoonish form of text. I think the writers will trash all those movies where the villain makes his villainous laugh and tell all his evil plan in front of the hero after dying stupidly.
I think that’s what’s missing in this show: subtlety or whatever. Yes, the Magister had to sit on the highest throne, and speak with a superior air, to show that he is the boss.

I think she spends too much and obviously hasn’t been paying taxes either. We see that she has a new day room but now we find out she is broke so she really just doesn’t think. So different from the book version of QSA, but since Katrina has passed for a bit guess it wouldn’t make sense to show her broke and suffering and worried now because of it.

I am still not sure if she is already working with Russell though. I don’t think RE would have to reveal a plan to Eric if he is already working together with the queen.

After all, it could also be a lie from her as a way to keep the magistrate out of Eric’s office in case he had some compromising evidence that they are dealing with V. But I’m inclined to think Yvetta might be a spy from her, after she wanted her to stay during the meeting.

Am i the only one who thought that the queen didnt actually bug eric’s office, but said that as more of a cover for the magister to show “hey you can believe what this guy is about to say regarding the v in his area” to cover her and eric…. maybe im just overthinking this one lol, but the way the queen is portrayed on the show she doesnt seem smart enough to actually bug him…

      • June 14, 2010 at 11:53 am

Well, he was in Eric’s office towards the end of season 1 when they had the conversation about Jessica. He was also in there in 2.03 when Sookie was attacked by the maenad. So it’s not like the opportunity wasn’t there.

If he is already Sophie-Anne’s bitch, what’s one more act of betrayal?

yeah i bet it was Bill. It makes the most sense. We havent even seen Chow for a long time, and Pam would never do that. And i dont think its Yvetta shes only been working there a day. She probably hasnt even been in the office yet.

      I loved it, too!

QSA is one crazy mofo and she was pretty scary in attack mode. She will do anything to preserve herself and her seaside dayroom, including throwing Eric under the bus. Also, Yvetta looked afraid of both the Queen and the Magister, or was that just me? I’ll need to watch again and pay more attention.

Loved Jessica in this episode. The contrast between her lovingly holding the flowers and then looking into the hole at the dead trucker was hilarious. She is so screwed!

Pam was hot, hot, hot. Her one-liners were spectacular. Really laughed at her snarky “Oh no, don’t go down there Sookie, please don’t ….” lol. “Eric, I tried to stop her.” lol.

Anyway, I think this season is going to be great! I’m excited and cannot wait to watch this epi again.

She probably already knew that Bill was kidnapped. QSA is probably in on it somehow and for some reason. You saw how desperate and crazy she is.

I think we should all relax here. I think the episode was well done, we just spent so much time piecing all the spoilers/clips together that there were no surprises. I was very happy to see all the extended scenes, myself. Next episode seems to have PLENTY of Eric/Sookie going on and I think we will be very happy after next week.

ANYWAY, The WORST of True Blood is still better than ANYTHING ELSE on television.
That is all I really have to say.

THIS. I was super-spoiled for episode 1, and so not much surprised me. Still, I really enjoyed watching how the scenes I *hadn’t* seen played out.

        Loved:

Hoyt’s “Nice to meet you!” to the pickups.

Pretty much every moment of Eric, although the hyper-pump-action vampire sex was cheesy and made me think too much of the video with Maudette and that freak from season 1. Very much enjoyed Eric/Pam and Eric/SA/Magister scenes, though. Funny that I don’t find Zeljko Ivanek’s role as the Magister to be his creepiest by a long shot (he made my skin crawl much more in Big Love). He’s great in everything.

Jessica’s growing anxiety over TC (TruckerCorpse). DAW is doing a wonderful job.

Lafayette–loving him as always–and Laffy/Pam. I can’t get enough of the way she drawls “Are you pickin’ up what I’m layin’ day-hown?” Also, the “Hooker” exchange.

Sam/Bill dream scene. Why do I find Bill more alluring here than I ever do in his scenes with “Suckie”? On the subject of Sam, looking forward to seeing what develops with his family, although I can’t for the life of me see how they’ll tie in his story with all the vampy stuff.

        “Dick on, conscience off.”

        Didn’t Love:

Tara going apeshit on Sookie. Then again, Sookie wasn’t all about the tact, bringing up her mind meld with Eggs at the WORST possible time. Also? Sookie, you probably shouldn’t compare your “Bill’s been kidnapped!” sitch to Tara’s “My zombie boyfriend’s just been shot in the head outside my workplace!” grief.

Bill supping on that oxygen-deprived old lady and then giving her money. I’m not a Bill hater by any means (despite my love for Eric), but this just didn’t give me warm fuzzies at all–more like cool creepies. It really did feel like a totally unsubtle attempt at keeping Bill the good guy, which is silly, as there really are no good or bad guys in this world. I know his dark side will be further explored this season, but I wish AB could present that without simultaneously trying to redeem the character.

Overall, I enjoyed it. But I think I’m going to adore episode 2…

{Also, the “Hooker” exchange.} OMG, I laughed my ass off when Lafayette called her a hooker. I was like, uh oh! I also laughed when put on that ridiculous hat! Hahaha! Ah Lafayette, you never disappoint.

Jason was so freaking funny in this ep. I also loved the little speech he gave to Hoyt about lying and how if you really want to f***ck someone up, tell them the truth. Definite foreshadow there!

          {…although the hyper-pump-action vampire sex was cheesy}

I didn’t mind this so much because for me it just made me think that it was just another typical fangbanger lay for Eric. From what I have seen of the E/S kissing scene, it tells me that we won’t see that type of thing with her. With her it’s extremely passionate – at least from what I have seen in the latest promo (the one where he practically devours her lol).

As to Bill, that was VERY creepy and everyone at the party gasped when he first attacked her. For me it was typical of what we have seen with Bill and I didn’t expect to see anything too revealing in the first ep. I have a feeling that things are going to get worse for him as the season progresses.

One thing I have to say about Bill, there was absolutely no reason for him to feed on her. He wasn’t injured in any way. He could have taken that money, vamped it back to BT, and bought some TB. lol What it said to me is that Bill feels free to revert back to his non-mainstreaming ways when it suits him. He did not have to feed on her at all. Also, whose money did he give her exactly? Did he have a wallet? He didn’t have anything on him other than the pair of pants he was wearing. He wasn’t even wearing a shirt! My question is: did Bill just give her back HER OWN money as if he was giving her a gift? That’s what it looked like to me.

Oh yeah Jason’s speech was some big foreshadowing for the show about how the truth only hurts you. I remember when I saw it thinking oh how this will play out on the show for sure.

HAHHAHAHHAHAHAH 🙄 VL… hon, I know you hate Bill (a lil less than SA hahha), and I don’t like him either (I only hate AB). I would be the happiest woman in the world if Bill were the one who would die this season as Freyja said about Letty Mae some post below LOL. BUT in honor of the truth (of TB)…

Saint Beehl was almost drained by the weres in the car, he even told Coot that if they were sent to kidnap him, at the rate they were draining him, he wouldn’t be alive when they’ll bring him to that person. They were high with his blood and he kill the driver, so we can look at him walking like dying, the same way he did when he gave his blood to Sam at the finale pfffft. Also, he had his pants on, and at least most of the men I know carry their wallets on the pants, so….

Yeah, it’s ALL Ballshit. Another vampire would killed her. But mercyful Saint Bill only feed from her, gave her money after she said she hadn’t money for a phone because she had to choose to have the oxygen because his son wan’t visiting her, and glamour her to think the money was brought from his son who visited her. A TON of BALLSHIT, yep. But that’s how it happened in AB’s fanfic…

See, that’s what I took from the scene, too. Bill manipulates and glamours to get his way, just like he did with the jewelry seller. It was very creepy that he would drink from her at all, but then to brainwash her into believing that her son had come by to bring her money reminded me of the lies he tells Sookie because he thinks it will make her happy. Even if there is happiness for a short time, it is still a lie in the end. Bill believes that he can make up for his deceptions by keeping things from people or trying to glamour them into forgetting his actions, but that in itself is deceptive and I think it says a lot about his character as a vampire. Where Eric is a “terrible liar”, Bill seems to be a master of his craft.

That’s a really great point about the lies and lying does play a major part in the episode. There’s Andy’s and Jason’s predicament over what to tell about how Eggs was killed. Jason goes from thinking that telling the truth is harmful to believing that it’s the right thing to do, even though he’s stuck and has to keep lying. Tara tries to go along with the pretty lies her mother and the pastor tell her, but in the end she can’t go along with it. It kind of bothered me that Eric seemed so bad at lying to the Magister and was pretty obvious for someone who has had over 1,000 years to practice, but it makes more sense if they were contrasting it with Bill’s smooth manipulation.

Yes and this is definitely the point! Lorena said it and she was right – Eric is a terrible liar. I think Eric is a great chess player (as Sunny has said) – he’s great at maneuvering the pieces to get what he wants. I think he rarely lies because he doesn’t really need to. yes exactly…he thinks lies are okay as he thinks its saving the person grief or unhappiness. Its just kinda manipulative.Like give the person the chance if theyd rather live in a harsh reality that is REAL or a soft cushy world of delusion like miss sookie and now Olivia here? I mean damn its like mind control. I know Erics famous for highhandedness, but Bill seems to be the master at this.

You know reading this and all of ya’ll’s thoughts on Bill’s glamouring the old woman after feeding on her brought something to mind for me. It may have already been said and if so I apologize for repeating someone else’s ideas, but…

Like ya’ll it totally made me think of Hoyt and Jason’s convo about the truth, especially how Hoyt said he was happier knowing the truth because it got him out from under his momma’s thumb. All of this brought to mind for me how Sookie knowing the truth will bring her out from under Bill’s thumb. Sooooo, perhaps this ties together to give us a bit of foreshadowing. A certain edict being brought into the open perhaps?

Hey Gigi! 🙂 See to me I don’t see him as “Saint Bill” anymore. To me I saw a vamp unnecessarily feeding on an old sickly (dying) woman. What made him think that poor woman’s body could withstand the blood loss? I mean, he’s supposed to be mainstreaming and have a “conscience” – neither of which appeared in that scene. Also, Bill had gone to ground so his body had enough time to heal itself from the draining. When he encountered that woman he was physically fine – look how he creeps toward her and his face changes into predator mode (even his strut changes) when he realizes she’s alone and no one will hear them. He pissed me off during that scene – for me there was absolutely no reason to feed on her but he did it any way and then gave her money to assuage his own guilt for what he had done.

Exactly, VL. It’s Bill’s m.o. to make himself feel better by lying to someone or deceiving them in order to assuage his own guilt. That’s what I took from this scene. It wasn’t “sweet” to me at all.

His bite would have surprised and hurt her. I don’t mind the glamouring her with false memories because it would have made her feel good, but I do think he should have shut the poor woman’s front door when he vampired out, especially since he had just heard the wolves nearby!

Also considering that the woman was elderly, infirm, and on oxygen….she could have easily died. Being the kind thoughtful sort of gentleman that he is, I can imagine just the sort of note Bill have left for her son:

              “Dearest Stanley,

Please accept my sincerest condolences at the recent loss of your mother at my hands. While her untimely demise was sadly unfortunate, it was necessary that I drain her because it was inconvenient for me to walk a half mile up the road to purchase a six pack of synthetic blood at the local Piggly Wiggly. As an expression of my heartfelt remorse, I have enclosed fifty dollars …which I am sure will more than console you for your terrible loss.

              Sincerely yours, Eric Northman

PS. I can be found most evenings at Fangtasia’s (located at 444 Industrial Drive in Shreveport, LA.) Also you might like to know that I’m especially vulnerable to wooden stakes.”

            {{…although the hyper-pump-action vampire sex was cheesy}

            I didn’t mind this so much because for me it just made me think that it was just another typical fangbanger lay for Eric. From what I have seen of the E/S kissing scene, it tells me that we won’t see that type of thing with her. With her it’s extremely passionate – at least from what I have seen in the latest promo (the one where he practically devours her lol).}

Ditto. I’m actually glad he wasn’t all passionate with Yvetta, because it’ll stand as a stark contrast to how he is with Sookie *squeals* And is it just me or does it seem like he wasn’t even *looking* at Yvetta, but more so over her head?? I’ll have to rewatch to be sure, but that would certainly emphasize how routine this whole fang-banger scene is for him and it will make what he and Sookie will eventually have seem even more meaningful (or so I sincerely hope lol)

Anddd since I’m here, my take on the eppie lol:

            * LOVE, LOVE, LOVED Pam, Jessica, and Lafayette!! Jessica’s definately dug her way into my heart since season 2 and I really feel for her having Bill as a maker, the guy taught her NIL! He totally took his self loathing out on her and it only serves to further my dislike for him *glowers*
OH and I love how Pam admitted that the whole hooker thing was “a looong time ago” I’d love to learn more about her past, I’ve loved her off since season 1. Lafayette + hat + telling off Lettie Mai = enough said HAHA

            * Hoyt is the sweetest thing in the world and, aside from Eric and Sookie (and TVD’s Damon and Elena- Please don’t shoot LOL), I don’t think I’ve ever wanted things to work for a fictional couple more than I do for him and Jessica but things look so meek right now 😦

            * Jason and Andy creacked me up as always and it was nice to see Arlene and Terry again, they totally give the show it’s unique “vibe.” “Conscience off, dick on.” LOOL

            * I’m vaguely interested in what Sam’s gonna find when he finds his family, but I can’t claim to be on the edge of my seat, although I do like his character. I’m not all that interested in Tara right now, I like many others miss season 1’s no nonsense, Tara that bounced so smoothly off of Lafayette 😦 but I’m totally looking forward to FM and I’m hoping he’ll revigorate my interest in her character, although I blame that adomination Maryanne on my loss of intert in the first place more than anything *cringes*

            * Eric looked amazing and every second he was on my screen he had me salivating, just felt the need to put that out there LOL and I despise SA, she seems deranged and she’s messing with Eric *growls* loved that growl he gave behind her back, but psycho really needs to keep her hands to her self. really.

            * Sookie annoyed me to death tonight. I usually find her endearing but I couldn’t get past the way she spoke to Jessica, expecually when they found the upturned car. Like sorry, who died and made you master?? That’s right, noone.

I think I’ll be staying away from spoilery clips from now on, only little promos because althugh I enjoyed the episode, I felt like I already expected like 95% of it and I’d prefer to be a bit more surprised…

              {And is it just me or does it seem like he wasn’t even *looking* at Yvetta, but more so over her head??}

Yes!! Exactly! I don’t remember if he was looking over her head but to me (and not because I’m biased) but it looked like he was just a little bored. Not bored in the sense of “this doesn’t feel good”, but bored in the sense of, “just another typical day at the office, *sigh*”. lol I’m not really expressing it correctly but there was just nothing there – just pure sex and nothing else. I’ll have to rewatch again tonight too. heeee heee heee. 🙂

DO you all think that Yvette maybe one of many girls since Dallas that Eric’s been through, kinda like Fucking Sookie out of his head. Even he would have to think that his interest in Sookie is getting a bit more then just liking her for her gift.

I think Yvetta, the audition, etc are Eric’s way of trying to get back to his normal life and normal emotionless state after all that happened in Dallas (losing Godric, etc.) Eric hates having feelings and he hates feeling weak so he supresses his humanity. AS described him best (thanks Lotus!):

“[His humanity] is something that Eric always tries to suppress and fight and hold back,” he said. “After Godric died [in Season 2], which was the greatest loss of his life, Eric once again just suppressed it… Sometimes you see a softer side, but he always pulls it back. He hates it when he shows weakness.”

                  PS I love him. 🙂

yeah he does lot his humanity come through around Sookie…i mean when she came running down into the dungeon “holy s” or whatever she said LOL, the look on his face was priceless….he lost his cool demeanor for a second, looked shocked/pissed, then right away put on his face again and said “see anything you like”…he didnt want Sookie to see that he cared, which is why i actually really liked that scene. And im actually really happy he admitted he wanted what was Bills in that scene as well to Sookies face. I thought it was pretty significant he said it out loud.

You’ve nailed what I believe is his reason for wanting Yvetta in the first place. Also, I think he didn’t go to Sookie the night of the maenad attack because a. he had been pretty much warned against it by QSA, b. he realized he was getting attached and it made him feel weak. By attaching himself to Yvetta instead, he was trying to lose himself in sex and emotionless engagement with another woman that isn’t Sookie, and c. Bill was still around. In contrast to that, I think we’ll see Eric show up in Jackson, despite the wishes of the Queen, after Sookie has her altercation in LP’s with the were. By this point, without Bill in the picture, he will feel obligated to protect her and keep her safe, and even though he’s trying to put out a million other fires, he’ll go to check on her. Now, I don’t think his intentions are pure in showing up in Jackson, because we know he has a vengeance storyline that includes RE and werewolves, and I think that AB wants us to question his motives. But in the end I feel the viewers will see that there is more to Eric’s interest in Sookie than just her abilities or power, that he has feelings for her and that he struggles with them. Especially after that holy hellfire kiss! 😉

Yes it really had no passion the scene with Yvette, it was very typical vampire sex with a fangbanger. No heavy breathing or passion like in the little snippet with the one kiss between E/S. The poor guy has it bad 😉

‘I didn’t mind this so much because for me it just made me think that it was just another typical fangbanger lay for Eric. From what I have seen of the E/S kissing scene, it tells me that we won’t see that type of thing with her. With her it’s extremely passionate – at least from what I have seen in the latest promo (the one where he practically devours her lol).’ VL

Bill was almost drain and he need the blood for his strengths and food. Bill is a vampire and all vampires will do the same thing as Bill Bill did not kill the old woman.

Eric would done the same thing if he was in the situation as in Bill.

I see what you mean about the feeding, but i dont think Bill should have implanted false memories. That is a step too far, like mind control. He did it to ease his own guilt, but hes not really helping the woman by doing it. Hes creating an illusion for her because he thinks it will make it better. Just like hes doing with Sookie.

Eric would not gave her false memories. Eric would had just glamor her not remember anything.

Bill maybe felt sorry for the lonely old woman and let her think she seen her son Stanley. Nobody is taken care of her, her son neglected her.

Yeah i agree, but i dont think Bill has a right to manipulate people like that. I myself would rather know the truth, even if its bad. Thats where you get into “I lied because i didnt want to hurt you” B.S. from people, but in the end it only makes it worse and more hurtful, at least in my experience. Bill is obviously a big believer in that excuse when it comes to Sookie and this Olivia is another example.

I continue to adore Hoyt. Loved how you could hear his “nice to meet you” in the background as the two students angrily left. He’s such a polite boy! I also continue to be impressed with DAW and I think that Jessica is my second favorite female character, behind Pam of course. 🙂

I also loved seeing Jason back to his old tricks and Jason/Andy is pure comedic gold. I have to agree with you on the comparison between the DOD scene and Season 1’s Maudette/Liam scene. It did cross my mind as I was watching and I hate that because I’ve desperately tried to forget that scene ever happened! On a positive note, I loved Pam’s sarcastic attempts to keep Sookie away and I loved that Eric was obviously not pleased that Sookie arrived at that moment.

I just can’t get into Tara’s story, at least not yet. The Maryann story completely robbed me of any interest in Tara and I hate it because I really liked her in the first season. Also, she only knew Eggs for a few weeks FFS and he’s her great love? Although I couldn’t really fault her much for attacking Sookie because Sookie’s complete self-absorption over all things Bill would try even a saint’s patience. Your thoughts on Bill’s feeding and portrayal pretty much echo my own. It’s like they are preemptively redeeming him, you know? Dirty him up first, then worry about the redemption.

OMG, that was one of my absolutely favorite scenes. Pam “she overpowered me”. Lol. For me, not surprisingly, Pam stole the whole fucking show tonight. I was almost as happy with her in the scene in Fangtasia as I was with Eric’s ass. Though like most of the rest of ya’ll I did cringe a little bit at the cheesy sex scene. And it may have just been me, but Eric didn’t really look that into it to me.

Jason and Andy also were two highlights for me as well. Those two are so freaking funny. Loved when Jason wanted the two girls to tell him what he was thinking, you know in his brain? Lol. I also liked his line about really fucking people’s lives up when you tell the truth about them. He goes from something kinda profound like that to missing every little hint that Hoyt wanted to move in with him.

And Hoyt was awesome. Just awesome. I’m rooting for him and Baby Vamp but I have even less hope for that relationship than I do for the Eric/Sookie stuff to be done right.

I really think that Terry and Arlene are two of the best not-really-main-characters on the show. Terry’s little speech with Andy at the beginning was so sweet. And how Arlene realizes that she’s preggo is just strange. Also loved Terry muttering “peculiar” after Arlene went running out of the room not making sense when he asked her about them doing something after work.

Sookie annoyed me. I want to like her, I really do, but she just freaking annoys the crap out of me. I was really annoyed when her and Jessica find Bill’s car and she orders Jessica to look for the guys wallet or phone. Sorry, but I’d a been like, “Bitch you ain’t my momma or my maker, look for it your damn self.” Sadly it seems like Bill and Sookie seem to treat Jessica like the proverbial red-headed stepchild, lol, which I guess in a way she is, but still.

And after the Tara thing when Sookie tells her they’re in the same boat because Bill’s missing. I am not saying at all that she shouldn’t be worried about Bill or trying to find him, but while him being missing and her not knowing what has happened to him is horrible, it’s not quite the same to me as seeing your boyfriend laying dead in front of you with a bullet in his head. I’m not trying to debate about which situation is worse, just sayin it don’t seem like the same boat to me.

Just about the only time Sookie didn’t annoy me tonight was when she was with Pam. Ohh, and I loved how easily she invites Pam inside and that Eric gave her the check for more than what they agreed upon. We already knew that was going to happen, but I still loved getting to see it, lol.

Tara, Sam, and Bill are all already starting to bore me, so I hope things get moving more with them cause honestly when I re-watch the show, I’ll be fast forwarding through all those parts, except perhaps the Sam/Bill dream because it gave me major giggles. I say both actors deserve major Kudos for that scene. They pulled it off with just the right amount of chemistry and awkwardness, lol.

Lafayette. I love Lafayette. Him being such a good cuz-cuz to Tara was very sweet, even if it did involve helping her by giving her alcohol and pills, lol. LOVED his scene with Pam, especially when she asks what it is about her that makes people think she wants to hear about their problems? That entire scene both characters rocked!!

And our beloved Viking Sheriff. Oh my dear Eric you are headed for some major shit this season I can already tell it. Despite my concerns though, as always, I loved every damn second that he was on my tv screen.

Overall I definitely enjoyed the episode, especially Eric, Pam, Jason, and Andy. But I gotta say, another Bill cliffhanger (if you can call it that) didn’t really leave me on the edge of my seat. I just can’t find it within myself to care what happens to him, lol.

Alan Ball seems to think that the audience cares as much as he does about what happens to Bill. From what I can tell after spending the last six months in TB fandom, a good majority really don’t care all that much which makes for a rather blah cliffhanger.

            {It’s like they are preemptively redeeming him, you know? Dirty him up first, then worry about the redemption.}

Exactly. If AB wants to go the redemption route with Bill, he has to let him hit rock bottom without trying to prop him up all the time. Personally, I don’t yearn for a Bill redemption–I’d rather see Bill’s darkness revealed in juxtaposition to positive revelations about Eric–and leave it at that. But I’m sure AB, attached as he is to Bill, will want to bring him full circle *eyeroll*.

Sorry the Eric/Yvetta sexfest gave you Maudette flashbacks, too. Well, at least Eric was taking her from the front, so it wasn’t exactly the same! VL and Midnightblack, thanks for giving me a bit of a different perspective on this. I do like to think it will stand in stark contrast to the sweet, sweet love he may someday make to Sookie.

Oh, before I forget–I meant to say that I totally “got” Arlene’s tipoff that she was pregnant. I develop a dog’s sense of smell when I’m pregnant (am experiencing it right now). My poor husband has had to clean out the refrigerator three times in the past two weeks. I smell every freakin’ thing–not a pleasant experience during NYC summers!

I watched it a second time just now and liked it much more the 2nd time around. I just kept waiting for the next thing to happen and wanting certain scenes to get over with already so we can get more to Eric, QSA, Magister, V dealing, maybe Russell. But now that I can pay attention without expecting other things, it’s better. It’s just the first episode so it’s fine, they’re showing us where everyone is at before everything gets turned upside down for all. You can’t give away too much in the first ep either. Those who viewed the first 3 eps all said it is very action packed and how great the eps are so I’m guessing that eps 2 and 3 are going to be great.

Good point Dee! It does kinda seem that way to me to, but I’m guessing that will be explained as he had to find somewhere to feed to renew his strength and then he got stopped by the pack of wolves.

However, if he’d have done as a maker should do and taught Jessica any damn thing about being a vampire (other than the different types of TrueBlood and that she should recycle) perhaps she would have gotten to him when he called her! Just sayin!

It’s just odd to me, because when the old lady said they were in Mississippi, you can tell by the look on his face that it meant something to him. Also, from trailers it seems like the last scene with the were’s surrounding Bill is on Russells property so that means Bill ran right to Russell’s mansion because he figured out it was RE who sent the were’s. So why go right there? I thought all along that from all the trailers something wasn’t right about his kidnapping. It never looked like he escaped and RE came after him because it seems more like he was helping him a bit and also very welcoming when they walk into his home.

HAHAHHAHAHHA But Dee, saint Beeehl was almost drained, and is in Mississippi, not in Lousiana. Besides that, it seems that it was almost dawn because he had to burry himself till the next night…

        June 14, 2010 at 7:01 am

Yeah but why would he go right to Russell’s mansion, I’m sure he could’ve gone elsewhere in Mississippi. Didn’t he just wake up though? we saw him come up from the ground and that is when he went to Olivia’s house, and he went straight to the were’s after. Why not try and start going back towards LA until dawn and sleep underground again. Plus he had money on him so he could’ve gone elsewhere to make a phone call, have someone come and pick him up.

Well Dee, I don’t know if you know this for it sure. But I can’t tell, from the scenes of the episode, that Billy went straight to Russell mansion. Because it was shown how he crawled like a roach (thanks VPG!) to get out of the car, and the scene was cutted from there to show Sam’s dream… and then it was day time again. When I saw Billy again, he was shown staggered while walking in a road, but at least I can’t tell if he was heading to Louisiana or to Rusell’s mansion. I just know he saw Olivia’s cabin.

Oh I mean after he leaves Olivia’s place. He asked her what Parish they were in and he finds out they are in Mississippi. Then the next time we see Bill he is running like crazy through the woods and then he stops and is surrounded by the were’s. That is the “you next” scene when he bites one of their ears off and will have a stand off with Coot. We saw in the waiting sucks promo with Bill that RE will come riding up on his horse during that scene. So that is why I think he is on RE property or very close to it. Unless they were out looking for Bill.

              June 14, 2010 at 6:54 pm

yeah i agree…if Russell is on a horse they at least have to be close to his property. Its strange that he would go in that direction if you ask me. Being a vampire he probably has very keen senses an would know exactly what direction to head in once he found out from Olivia that he was in Mississippi. It seems to me he purposely went that way as well, unless Russells mansion is more towards Louisiana. It seems too much a coincidence.

Something else I just realized is that now QSA really can’t throw Eric under the bus without showing her involvement. She just revealed in front of the Magister that she has Erics office bugged so the Magister would assume that QSA has to at least know it’s going on.

Well ladies (and Dan), I have to say that I loved the premiere. I guess I am finding it much easier to seperate the books from the TV series and I’ve come to a certain level of peace about everything.

I think this season (although it won’t be following Club Dead page by page) will be a breath of fresh air and I am really looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

I can’t say that I was completely ruined by all the last minute spoilers, I was still hanging off the edge of my seat and might I add a little breathless through the entire ep. I loved reading everyone’s thoughts and I agreed with most of them.

My rundown? Tara should just be killed off right now. I am so over her drama. I like Sookie’s hair. So can’t wait for her to figure out that Beel isn’t all he’s cracked up to be. Beel was irritating as usual, but I am looking forward to seeing what his storyline with RE is all about. Pam, Laf, Jessica and Hoyt are so fricken awesome, am loving them so much. Eric was…a dream, really. ASkars is so totally killing the whole thing and he works very well with what he’s got. Even all the spoilery Eric goodness before the premiere didn’t dim his scenes for me. QSA irks me with her tiresome psycho bullshit, but whatevs. Although I love Sam, the whole Mickens storyline isn’t doing it for me. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I can’t wait for Alcide and the werewolf stuff to start. And E/S goodness yummmmmm!

Love it. Looking forward to more.

I agree with MUCH of what you say, but I must disagree about Tara. Her character is a child of an absent father/alcoholic and abusive mother. She was angry even before she was betrayed by Marianne, and Eggs, the person she thought of as someone who would really love her, was shot in the head. There is a lot of tragedy in Tara, and yes, drama too, but I do believe her purpose in the storyline is to teach the viewer about the damaged people in our own lives who are beaten down by life and the poor decisions they make for themselves as a result of their circumstances. Tara has poor self-esteem, imho, because of her upbringing and the sense that she is not worthy of more. She is wonderful at questioning others, like the scene when Sookie first gets her dress from Bill. But she’s terrible at looking at herself clearly because she is seeing always through the eyes of the wounded child.

However, Tara is also a fighter, and I believe that we’ll see her really evolve as the series progresses. Lettie Mae is a huge speedbump in all of this travel, however.

I agree with you about Tara. She may not see clearly, but shes nothing compared to Sookie in my opinion. And i thought Sookie comparing Bills kidnapping to Eggs being shot in the head was out of line.

This, to me, is one of her worst qualities and her relationship, or “blind obsession” with Bill brings it out in spades. I get that she’s acting like a teenager in love for the first time, but Sookie isn’t a teen, she’s a grown ass woman and she needs to act like it. I hope that she learns not to completely lose herself in her future relationships.

Oh yeah, everything revolves around her and Bill. And she just cant stand to be asked one single question she should have been already asking herself without ripping peoples heads off. She just doesnt get it. She should know from seeing relationships go sour all her life with her telepathy that shes being really naive when it comes to Bill.

Sookie is acting like a teenager and this is her first romance. Sookie was like that in the books. I can understand why Sookie is acting like she is because she knows that Bill has been kidnapped.

I agree even tho Sookie is 25, Bill was her first everything really so her acting like a Teenager makes sense. I am getting sick of Sookie everything always is me me me with her tho. I remember in Season 1 when Sookie thought Bill died understandably she was upset, but takes it out on Tara when Tara was just trying to talk to her, an was concerned about her involvement with Vamps naturally. Sookie went on to basically be all me me me, an now we see her again say to Tara were in the same Boat Bill’s missing. Sookie knows Bill was kidnapped not murdered atleast at this point, so how are her an Tara in the same Boat? very selfish of Sookie. If i was Tara i would’ve flat out said, i dont give a flip about Bill Eggs is dead i’ll never see him again, you still have a chance of seeing Bill so we are not in the same Boat. I’m not saying Tara’s crap isn’t getting on my nerves to, but since were discussing Sookie i’ll stay on her for now lol. I really do believe tho once Sookie finds out Bill’s not who she thinks he is, an has been keeping things from her we will get more Book Sookie.

I agree. Tara is not in a good state of mind right now. She is freakin suicidal. I mean, Tara shouldnt have attacked sookie but she should have been more sensitive. Eggs is dead, and Bill probably isnt. Sookie needs to think a little about what she says before she says it.

Thank God that she at least has Lafayette. Meanwhile, Sookie didn’t even check up on Tara to see how she was doing after the fight. I’m assuming they make up at some point since we do see her in Sookie’s house later on. I’m hoping we’ll see Sookie evolve A LOT this season.

Although she is grown up, she is still very naive when it comes to relationship. And here comes a handsome, ‘quiet’ gentleman. She is clearly very impressionable woman/girl and who better to control and manipulate than Bill?
I myself relate to Sookie. My first relationship/love/sex was with a very dominable/manipulative man. He had a good front like Bill, could be very loving and funny, but he totally dragged my personality under. After few weeks people were totally annoyed with me, I really was becoming another person, only thinking about myself and my boyfriend, I was rude and boring really 😉 After the relationship ended, I was so ashamed of myself, my eyes just opened!
Here’s hoping that Sookie will gain conciousness again, and be herself 🙂

Here’s my quick thought for those of who you think the blood dreams are shared:

It’s curious how Bill, who is shirtless crawling from the car, is also shirtless in Sam’s dream. Is that a clue that the vamp is sharing the dream with the dreamer?

Thanks Robin! I’ve read the theories but I just never really believed that they shared their dreams. However, Lotus makes a good point about Bill being shirtless and lost – similar to what actually happened. The possibility is intriguing me now!

              June 15, 2010 at 2:12 am

Hey, no problem, I find it very intriguing myself! I still think that Sookie’s second dream sequence actually happened, at least the first part of it, when she went to see Eric after Godric met the sun, and what we saw was her actually remembering what happened. I think the second half of the dream sequence was her daydreaming. But, it may also be possible that they both dreamed about Sookie going to his room to comfort him.

                June 15, 2010 at 2:29 am

I’m still wondering if the dreams are only one-sided (just from the person who ingested the blood) but maybe what’s happening is that the person is sensing the Vampire’s emotions or “condition” but they can only interpret the feelings through their own dreams. In other words, only in dreams (because the subconscious finally allows it to surface) do they experience some of the vampires emotions or emotional state.

                • 454 Ashley
                  June 15, 2010 at 3:22 am

That actually makes a lot of sense. That would explain the dream Sookie had after Godric died about Eric, with him being totally vulnerable and with all the bloody tears. And it would also explain why Bill was shirtless and dirty and needed help in Sams dream. So the person thats had the vamps blood picks up on emotions or state of mind from the vamp, but it doesnt go both ways and the vamp doesnt pick up on the humans. But i guess the only way to know for sure is to have a vamp on the show explain it or to have AB explain it. Because when the vamps awake they can sense the humans emotions. Thats pretty interesting.

I saw so many trailers, promos, etc, that I felt as if I had already seen the premiere before I actually watched it 🙂
Matter of fact, I knew practically all of the lines by heart.
Great premiere tho – but the emotionless eric-yvetta thing looked like the jason thing from season 1 – and was kinda gross. You could see eric’s emotions turn on when sookie interrupted him. She’s like a switch. But then again, as we all know, he had good cause to be concerned (focused, tuned in) when he learned that Bill had been kidnapped.

    • 459 Ashley
      June 14, 2010 at 7:03 pm

I dont think it was as bad as Jason. For one, it wasnt from behind. Number two, there was no dirty dialogue. And Yvetta wasnt actually chained, just holding onto ropes. And it was nowhere near as bad as Maudette and that gross bald vamp. That guy like went frickin crazy during it and was pounding her so fast it was a blur. Erics wasnt as bad as either incidence, although same type of situation. But Yvetta seem to be enjoying herself so it didnt bother me.

I read a media review a few days ago that described this scene as a rape. I honestly don’t see how even the most ardent Eric hater can interpret that as anything but consensual. Even if it turns out to not be true, they took great pains to state that Yvetta was human in this episode and Sookie didn’t read anything from her. She was not chained but just holding onto ropes. She looked exhausted but pleased and greeted Sookie cheerfully. I have no idea what would have triggered the reviewer’s perception that it was rape. I wonder if this reviewer also saw the Maudette scenes with both Jason and Liam as nonconsensual? A comment on a message board is one thing, but I wish that people who write for media outlets would pay more attention to what they are watching.

Wow, i agree with you. That is just an outright lie, and that really pisses me off that anyone would describe that scene as rape, especially a reviewer. Yvetta was obviously not trying to get away, she wasnt even tied up and this reviewer obviously didnt notice that. She was screaming in pleasure and never once indicated she didnt enjoy it. She smiled at sookie in kind of an blissful haze if you ask me, coming from many orgasms.

Well, to the benefit of the TB fandom, this is the only instance I’ve seen the scene described that way. There were a ton of media reviews and this was the only one that described it that way. I’ve also made my rounds of several of the message boards and LJ since the episode aired, and I haven’t seen a single mention of rape. Granted, I haven’t visited the BL boards, so I can’t speak for their opinions. I really think the reviewer has some issues and those issues were made abundantly clear in his or her interpretation of the scene.

So was anyone else wondering why Bill had the black leather gloves on when he crawled out of the car wreck?

I thought he wore the gloves as protection to get the chain off from around his neck. As he was already weakened, touching the silver with his hands would weaken him more, and why add another injury?

I also thought it was weird that his shoes were pristine, but what the heck that means, if anything, I don’t know. Maybe the continuity department just dropped the ball…

Has anyone located the pre-show videos online? I was trying to find that one where you see a quick flash of Eric walking with his arm around what I thought was Sookie, but have since read was Hadley, and the Queen was in some sort of a birdcage! Believe it or not, as much as I want to see Eric in that sweater, I want to see the Queen in a cage even more! 🙂

Enjoyed the show but can’t say I loved it. Maybe I was spoiled too much so nothing too unexpected happened. But I am sure that won’t stop me from doing it again!

Just did my 2nd viewing and I did notice in the Fangtasia scene with the Magistar that QSA made some eye contact with Yvetta before she was kicked out. Also QSA didn’t mind and seemed to want Yvetta there. Just made me go-hmmmmmm!

OT but we had some company over last night and the guy is a movie/ event producer and he noticed about 20 minutes in how the cameras changed. He said they went from using the HD most expensive camera to like a video camera for the rest of the episode. It was interesting because him and his wife just sorta of sat up straight at the same time and commented on it. It was really a WTF moment for them. I asked if it could have been done for any artistic reason and he said no-probably just lack of money! He also noticed that a lot of the shots were framed from a comic book standpoint, the large headshots. Said this was more an artistic standpoint. Overall he really liked it, thought the actors were great, writing was good, he could see the plot is going to get convoluted. His only complaint was the cameras and lack of HD after approx the 20 min mark.

I have now been able to see this episode (and now owe my soul to the person/s responsible). A few random observations:

    1. Dear, sweet, Grant Bowler, for whom I had a big soft spot in Blue Heelers and Medivac …… what’s happened to you? You have gone all ev0l! *snort* You’re still pretty damn cute though. Interesting to see another Kiwi/Aussie in this show.

    2. Our Viking must have had a massive erection when Sookie walked in and he interrupted his coitis with Yvetta and turned and walked towards the Sookster. She was trying to avert her eyes and almost managed. heehee.

    3. Sookie went up in my estimation when she turned around and said, “BTW, you owe me $10,000”! Yay, Sookie! You’ve got more style that I gave you credit for!

    4. I dislike Tara even more than I did last season. Mean, nasty bitch.

    5. Sam has man-boobs.

    6. I was pleased to see Arlene being nice. I read the books after last season and it was a nice surprise seeing her in TB form. I’d missed her.

    7. Poor Jessica. She is so conflicted and ill-prepared for her new “life”. How on earth will she manage with no guidance? I really feel for her. She is struggling to do the right thing in human terms but she’s not human. She is a very interesting case study. She is a post-reveal vamp who was turned without consent and wants to be a good person but can’t be because even though her maker ostensibly wants to mainstream he has failed abysmally in his duty to his child. Hypocrite!

    8. Why did Bill go to ground in jeans in this ep when he went to ground nekkid in The Fourth Man in the Fire?

    9. Again Jason has more wisdom then he is usually credited with. “You want to really fuck somebody’s life up, tell the truth about them”.

    10. Nice arse, Askars.

IMO, Jason’s line about truth was major foreshadowing and could pertain to many of the characters in the show. As in, the viewers are going to get the truth this season because the masks are going to come off. Ironic that this conversation took place in the first episode of the season.

Good point about the gloves SVB – I wondered whether the gloves were to remove the silver as well. Maybe he didn’t want additional damage to his hands in case he needed to fight or because he knew he was most likely going to have to dig his way into the ground for the day (so much slower and harder to do with crispy fingers). That and the fact that I think we were initially supposed to believe that it was one of the kidnappers crawling out of the car. I must admit that I gave a little cheer when Bill decided to use the old lady as a meal as I have been heartily sick of the St Beehl of the Blessed Bullsh*tters act, but it really rained on my parade when he was given a little redemption afterwards, although I think the money he used probably came from the kidnappers as when Jessica searched them for identification she didn’t find a wallet. If this was AB’s way of trying to throw a scrap to keep both sides of the vamp fan clubs happy it didn’t work for me.

My reaction to Tara attacking Sookie was something that I don’t think I would have experienced if it had been book Sookie rather than TB Sookie. I found myself thinking that maybe Sookie deserved being jumped on – as wonderful as she thinks Beehl is I do rather think that the trauma of a boyfriend getting his brains blown out trumps a boyfriend doing a vanishing act under strange circumstances and Sookie handled the situation very, very badly. I miss the sassy, spirited Sookie of SVM and hope that we’ll eventually see that the bitchy and slightly self-centered Sookie of TB is being influenced by Bill’s blood to take on more of his personality traits.

I’m a bit concerned about the possibility of Arlene being pregnant. I like Terry and think he’s another small SVM character who has been fleshed out incredibly well in the series, but I don’t want to see a pregnancy storyline that results in the possible reincarnation of MaryAnne as some sort of devil spawn/Omen baby. The Maenad is done, gone – no more please! I also don’t want to see Terry losing his fragile grip on sanity should there be any problems with the baby or pregnancy as he has been a source of humour and support to other characters in pain in a very well played and understated way.

Finally, please don’t stake me but as much as I’m glad TB is back I felt a little let down by this opening. I can see how all the foundations are being laid in it for S3 to be totally kick arse brilliant, but after whipping us into a frenzy with the minisodes and spoilers I was expecting for S3 to maybe hit the ground running at breakneck speed. I almost felt like someone had opened a box to reveal the most gorgeous, sinful, tasty cake and let me have a good long sniff of it and then told me I can’t have a slice or a taste of it for another week. Waiting DOES suck!

I think we’ve been tempted/taunted with too much, and what we finally got was not actually a reward but really just stringing together the bits we’ve already seen. I think they built it up too much to the extent the reality lacked impact and if they keep up this approach the show’s popularity will suffer because fans will weary. You can’t keep this up for months on end much less years and keep the viewers’ interest. There was no real element of surprise.

Another thought, as to Bill being all noble giving the old lady money after he fed from her. if he REALLY cared for her, a strange human, he would have given her a few drops of his blood. It wouldn’t have affected what he just took and it could have probably healed the old lady’s lungs and whatnot saving her thousands of dollars and maybe adding a few years to her life. now THAT would have been noble! A few bucks or even couple hundred, meh-gone before you know it!

Well, I don’t know about “noble” but I would have at least considered that a fair exchange, instead of him just abusing a frail old lady for his own *vampire* needs.

I liked it (thank goodness for private trackers, I got it in less than 30 mins when I woke up and actually watched it at work 2x so far!), but as mentioned by many others, I felt that we were basically spoiled too much and it’s like they recombined everything from the teasers back into the ep. But I guess they didn’t care too much, and probably don’t care too much about the next 2, since they sent those around for advanced review, and there’s always the chance of people spilling the beans somehow (even if they sign NDA’s of some sort).

    Loved:
    – Pam. Nothing to be said, she was a great character in the books, is a great character in TB.
    – Jason and the Andy/Jason dynamic. It’s kinda funny, but I find Jason’s sexual inadequacies and mishaps funnier than when he performs. Plus, along with Pam, his are the funniest lines.

    Liked:
    – Jessica is still an adorable infant. I find her endearing, though.
    – Found the Bill/Sam dream hilarious.

    Disliked:
    – Eric’s vamp sex. Cheesy, and too Marcolm-y, even for a random screw. He’s supposed to be great in bed, and jackrabbit routine is definitely not how I peg that attribute.
    – Eric’s lines were a bit stiff. I surely hope they improve. And still no “joie de vivre” like he had in the books. What a letdown.
    – Sookie and her “Bill’s been taken” (or whatever) annoyed. She seemed like a parrot, always repeating the same thing.
    – Still don’t like the queen. ERW’s lines suffered from the same problem Eric’s did. Way too stiff. But in a way I hated them less than S2’s. There they made no sense. The fact that there were no board games around was a HUGE improvement.

    Hated:
    – Eric’s hair. Talk about a cop-out! No explanation, nada. I’m really pissed.
    – The credits thing. What is, exactly ASkars standing on the show, then? Even if he’s humble, I’m sure a good agent will care even if he doesn’t, as it may affect how’s he’s perceived.

I agree. It was disappointing, neither Eric nu saved that scene for me. It was rotten. It does not help that I never liked the DOD, and sex for me there is still disgusting. The dialogue is still strange, hard, whatever!

Its funny but for me them having sex in the DOD really didn’t bother me. It is a bit disgusting since we know about the former prisoners and deaths that happened there, but there mere fact that it is the DOD doesn’t bother me at all. I’d love to have my own DOD one day, for sexually perverse reasons only cause I’m kinky like that lol, no murders here and I would say no prisoners but well, I don’t think I’d be above keeping ASkars chained up in my DOD. 😀

I thought about the “jackrabbit routine” and figured that was reserved for meaningless sex. It did remind me of the “Maudette and random vamp” sex scene, which I thought was really ugly. He did have a sex life before Sookie, and I doubt that it was all that pretty.

Now, when it comes time for Sookie, he will make sweet love to her, of course, showing how love has changed him so.

I have always seen Eric as the bad boy that changes for love.

    The things that struck me-

Perhaps Eric took Yvetta to the DOD because he suspected his office was bugged. QSA wanting her to stay in the scene with the Magistar was also interesting – like she was someone she already knew from her rare blood buffett…

That it doesn’t matter how powerful you are, even vampires are afraid of the Internal Revenue Service. Plus, I can only imagine what she owes them, given that she has many more years than a mortal taxpayer to work with. The social commentary of the vampires paying taxes, yet not given the same protection/consideration under the law (with the nearly outright refusal to help with Sookie’s Bill search) is interesting too.

My husband HATED Sookie’s dress, and definitely thinks there is no way any man would pick that out.

Where are Sookie’s Bill Blood bond dreams?

    • 493 Dee
      June 14, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Well she can’t owe for that many years because they haven’t been out of the coffin that long and before that they didn’t pay taxes since they didn’t know about them. Unless there is a law saying that they owed for that time too which I don’t know about that.

I thought Eric took Yvetta down there for the simple fact that they couldnt screw in the club with the customers around, and in the office the people would still be able to hear, especially the supernaturals. Down in the basement is more sound proof, and less likely to be disturbed, except if your Sookie on a Bill rampage of course.

I don’t know if it is Sookie Stackhouse or Anna Packing’s acting skills, but I hate her character… It is not real at all… It is the worst of all of them.

I like the episode, for the rest of it… Can’t they change the actress? In Dark Shadows they did… lol.

Jason and Andy were the best. Jason as always incredible… And cute AS, 😀

By the way… There was nothing good of Bill, he paid her, though I don’t think it was her money, and he stole clothes from her, at least the shirt, so surely he took money too, He would need it at some time… And he left the DOOR OPENED, yes… He killed Gran… He left in a hurry, to meet the police maybe if he heard them aproaching his home… They met him outside 😉

And the magister knows it is them, he needs proves though… But he knows that Eric is selling it and he is doing it for the queen… When he talked, he did it towards Eric, he despises the queen… But has respet for Eric. I would say too that the queen is playing, but she thinks too highly on her, but she is under those other too, which have the position they want… And Eric is stronger than her, I would say he will take the queen down someday he is no longer comfortable in his position, while he is under someone, he is in danger… The queen must die, and she will.

I hated how Sookie is treating everybody, she is becoming as good as her “husband to be”, they are one for the other and he will get her cold one day… The way she looks to, she talks, she moves… Really, I wouldn’t miss her if the wolves killed her, argg… I don’t know what Eric sees in her… Maybe he just doesn’t see anything more, he is blind in love.. lol. I hope is all about the haracter and not some of AP, because that wouldn’t have repair.

In a whole, the episode promises a good seasson and I’m eager to see the second. I want to see real Eric, I want to see more magister, and I want more of the important plot (vamps), which of course, won’t end this seasson.

I agree with you, I like the AP, but it simply is not the Sookie, Sookie is very annoying and I also fail to see what Eric sees in Sookie. It is hard to root for a character who is supposed to like. I hope it improves even more during the season, so we have seen in the promos at least.

I was just reading Jacob’s recaplet over at TWOP, and he suggests that at least part of the reason why Eric was uncharacteristically out-of-control in this episode is due to his “weird Sookie thing”. Presumably his ability to now sense her emotions and the fact that she spent the episode running around the parish screaming about Bill. Maybe also that their basement encounter threw him off his game a little. He theorizes that Bill’s disappearance and QSA and the Magister showing up unexpectedly over the V dealings appears to be the reason for his mood swings, but that the Sookie connection could be an underlying cause. I don’t know if I totally buy it, but I thought it was an interesting perspective.

“Suddenly Out-Of-Control Eric: Spends the majority of the episode showing off his backside and getting weirdly emotional about Bill’s disappearance, more than likely reacting to his weird connection to Sookie but definitely freaking out Pam. By the time sexy Magister and loony Queen Sophie show up, he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing, but by episode’s end he’s basically managed to get himself together. He’s basically his usual fucking perfect self, but with an edge of hysteria that seems to be related to his drug-dealing scheme with Sophie Anne, but may well be due more to his Sookie thing.”

Yeah, I think it was mostly just the fact that all sorts of stuff was going down in a short period. Freaking out about Bill, the magister showing up, QSA going bananas and having to sell all the V. A human would’ve just been like, “F all of this, I’m gonna get drunk” haha

Yeah, I’m a fan of the Sookie/Eric ship and I didn’t really see it the way he described. It will be interesting to see if Jacob expands upon this in his full recap of the episode. Eric did seem about two steps behind for most of the episode but I agree with Jacob that he seemed pretty back on track by the end. He did have a ton of stuff to deal with and if it’s any indicator of what’s to come it’s going to be a tough season for Eric.

He freaked out about Bill because he is afraid that Bill has knowledge of Eric dealing and Eric knows what can happen to him if Bill opens his mouth. I think it’s normal for him to be angry.

He was out of control because his rival, the one person who could link him to the sale of V (well other than the Queen), is missing and could rat him out. Then he would be KILLED. I don’t understand why people are not getting this. Now, to make mattes worse, they are blaming it on Sookie because Eric can feel his emotions? Come on! I didn’t read it as he was blaming Sookie for Eric’s actions, just suggesting that the blood bond created last season could be having an effect on Eric’s mood. I’ll have to see if he expands upon this suggestion in his full review of the episode. I saw Eric’s motivations in the episode as what all of you have described, and Sookie having an influence didn’t even cross my mind, but I thought this added a slighly different perspective.

For the record, I’m ambivalent about Jacob’s reviews but they are usually worth reading. As a former BSG fan, I often rolled my eyes at his tangents in the BSG reviews and he tended to do the same with some of the Maryann stuff last season, but he is definitely an Eric fan and an unabashed ASkars fan. He did refer to Eric’s “usual perfect fucking self” in the recaplet and he often compliments Alex’s acting.

Is it just me or do they seem to be showing us an awful lot of Eric scenes before the actual episodes…i mean the pam/Eric scene from 3.01 was basically entirely shown beforehand and same with the Sookie/Eric scene in the dungeon. Is this weird? Did they do that last year before Season 2? I dont know because i didnt start watching until the week Season 2 premiered, but i just hope they arent giving too much away. I mean out of the four scenes Eric had in episode 1 we saw basically two in their entirety. I hope they arent going to give away all the good stuff, or i might have to stop looking at spoilers completely LOL. Or maybe (hopefully) they are showing us so much because there is so much more to come?

I really liked this episode even if all the promos basically spoiled everything months before…

I loved that Eric was having hard sex with Yvetta becouse it’s just another way tho show how he’s gonna change from having sex with no passion or emotion to make love with someone he cares deeply. I loved E/P story….we’re gonna have some deep moments between them and see how Eric is loyal and ready to take the fault for Pam, since the Magister we know he will torure her or just take her…

Yvetta….did u notice how the Magister looked at her?when SA wanted she stay with them?he gives her a weird look. My friends think that she is working for him…we made a bet about that.

Sookie was good, really good…she wanted to find Beel but she starts seeing at Eric in a very dfferent way…even with Pam and the check he gaves her…S/E are starting their relationship and i’m really happy about that.

Sam/Bill LOL not others words….quite abvious that AB was telling to all the the fans around that he lied to Sookie in 2×09 about Eric’s blood and lied to her basically 2 all season not mentioning that blood could give attraction (which is weird btw)

Pam….I LOVE HER!!!Kristin was just great!!!!her sarcasm was sooo high and well written that i just want more Pam!!!!!

    • June 14, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Sookie’s reaction when she was given the check from Eric really disappointed me. Well, I guess I should expect such an ungrateful behavior after the basement scene (like it was Eric’s fault to have that silly girl beholding his sexual encounter), but hey, sometimes Sookie is plain rude.

I still don’t see any improvement on Sookie’s part towards Eric, but sure the next episode will show some real steps forward.

I think sometimes we forget that the show happens at such a breakneck pace. It’s been like…a few months in TBworld since the series started? And I somewhat understand why Sookie acts like that, I mean, imagine if your boyfriend (dull as he is) went missing and no one seemed to care? Your mind would totally be all over the place.

I also think that Sookie was a little distracted by Bill’s kidnapping… You know how when something happens to put things in perspective? Money is not that important when someone you love is in missing. I think at that moment, she had more important things on her mind. Maybe I’m being generous in giving her the benefit of the doubt….

Yes, you guys are right about that. That’s very true. I do think comparing her situation to Tara’s was a bit ridiculous on her part though.

Well I understand her, and I like that she sticks up for him. Like when Sheriff Bud referred to Bill as not being a person. I thought she did well when she told him to respect his elders hehe 😉 But really, missing vampires are Vampire sheriffs problems.
But I can’t wait for her to see that there is something else to her exsistence than Bill!!!

Sookie did a stupid thing calling the police to look for a missing vampire. Why did she not call Eric six hours ago? Eric is the sheriff for vampires in that area.

Sookie in the books would never call the police for missing vampire.

I did not get the great love that Tara felt for Eggs. Most of there time, they were zombies beating each other up and having sex.

I can understand why Sookie said those words not thinking because her boyfriend been kidnapped. What drove Tara to attacked Sookie, Sookie told Tara that Eggs wanted to remember what he did. Tara blame Sookie for helping Eggs remember what he had done.

man, i feel like the only one who hasn’t seen the whole thing yet.

i caught a stream, first 10 minutes, then it got DMCA-ed as Sookie entered Fangtasia :p Found another, got to hear about dog feelings in Merlottes, out again. Found another, got to see QSA put her stilleto in Eric’s crotch. Got to see Beeeell with the old woman. Got to see Tara try to kill herself. that’s all i saw.

    my first download corrupted.
my second was an unknown file type.

THIS THIRD ONE, MAN. THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM, RIGHT?

seen plenty of screengrabs tho. I had a feeling Eric/Yvetta was going to be Malcolm-ish :/

i seem to be the only one looking askance at Pam being a hooker, i think.

      June 14, 2010 at 10:59 pm

Oh that sucks Feather, I’m sure you’ll see it soon in full.

On Pam, I as a little surprised she used the term ‘hooker,’ but according to the BlueRay season 2 commentary, she mentioned while she was human she was very good at making ‘arrangements’ with men outside of her stuffy constraining lifestyle she had while living with her parents. I don’t think they scratched her backstory from the books entirely, but gave it a little edge (and they made her a little younger for some reason).

You can find that commentary at Renee’s place, the Ancient Pythoness, if you haven’t already. 🙂

        June 14, 2010 at 11:20 pm

I can’t really see Pam as a “hooker” per se. However, I can envision her combining business with pleasure by sneaking out at night to work as a dominatrix. Establishments that catered to thrill-seeking masochists were (not surprisingly) popular during Pam’s era. Stuffy, uptight, and sexually repressed Edwardian gentlemen would be only too happy to pay for the privilege of being flogged and verbally abused by Pam.

          June 14, 2010 at 11:27 pm

In the commentary Pam tells us how she hated to have to conform to society’s rules about women. She hated the way she was treated just because she was a woman. That’s why she would make these “arrangements” – it was her way of rebelling. I don’t think she was a “hooker” per se and I don’t think she meant it in that way either. I think what she meant was that she was sluttly (LOL) and enjoyed the sexual company of men. The commentary is really interesting – you should definitely check it out. 🙂

Hahahaha! PAM RULES!!!! I loved loved loved her last night! She was AWESOME! As I said to Hime, I loved how she called Sookie out on her being so ungrateful of the extra money (bonus) Eric had given her. Especially when she mentioned that it was for “going above and beyond”. I mean clearly he not only meant the FOTS situation but also what she did for Godric. He’s too proud to say thank you (and doesn’t want to appear weak) so he said it in the form of a “bonus/gift”. You know how important business and money is to Vamps. So it says a lot. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing Pam put Sookie “in her place” more often. lol

Love Pam, too! She’s one of my favorites on the show and it’s great that we’ll be seeing more of her this season. Pam speaks truth, even when people don’t want to hear it, and I think in that way she’s a great balance for Eric who needs someone in his life that isn’t afraid to say “Hey, you are losing it!”

At this point, I think Sookie is also concerned about taking too much from Eric and owing him something in return. Plus, her concern for Bill is really overpowering everything else, as we see in her exchange with Tara. It explains her reason for being suspicious of the extra money and her inability to care enough to be grateful. We know that Sookie is new to relationships with men, and we know that she has been overly dependent on Bill the last couple of seasons, so it makes sense that she wouldn’t really know how to handle someone like Eric who obviously wants her and isn’t afraid to be upfront about that. Until we see that trust develop in their relationship, until she has a basis for it, Sookie is going to be wary of pretty much anything Eric related.

Sookie was very dependent on her grandmother and she died than Sookie became dependent on Bill. Sookie has history of dependent on people.

I’m still hung up on the six hour thing. Fangtasia was still buzzing when Sookie arrived. If she didn’t get there till 6 hours after Bill disappeared, that would make it 5 am, very near dawn, and the place should be shut. I thought the place closed at about 2 or 3 am, but these days I do get confused as I have not only TB and the books but also a vast amount of fanfic swimming around in my brain.

That was the impression that I got as well from the commentary. Either she became a prostitute or madam (love this idea!) shortly after she was made vampire, or she was using the term loosely. On a related note, I wasn’t able to tell from the commentary if she was English like Book Pam. However, she did note on the commentary that she tried to turn a guy from somewhere in England shortly after she was turned, so this part of her origin story is likely the same as the books.

And I agree with those who would love to see a flashback of Eric turning Pam. Although I readily admit that I would part of my curiosity stems from the fact that I would love to see an Edwardian-era Eric. 🙂

I’m picturing dinner party attire consisting of slicked-back hair (yet somehow still a little floppy) with an Edwardian tux combined with full frontal images of beautiful men swimming in a pond from the film adaptation of “A Room With a View”. That’s pretty much my Edwardian fantasy and guaranteed to cause an instant case of the vapors!

Did anyone else find it interesting that the Magister feels Vamp blood is sacred and should only be used in acts of procreation? And that he also called its distribution “moral anarchy”?

To tell you the truth, I didn’t. Vampires think they are better than humans and, I’m presuming the Magister is a very old vampire, to distribute vampire blood to mere humans for a recreational high would seem to disrespect, insult or cheapen something, well, sacred.

OK just had a thought. Why does Kenya show up at the restaurant when Sookie calls the police? Isn’t the restaurant in Shreveport and Kenya a police officer in Bon Temps, an hour away? More continuity issues?

In the minisode, the restaurant was described as being “on the way to Shreveport” so it was probably within Bon Temps city limits.

IMO, best Pam line (in the series), ever:

”I don’t know what it is about me that makes people think I want to hear their problems. Maybe I smile too much. Maybe I wear too much pink. But please remember I can rip your throat out if I need to. And also know that I am not a hooker. That was a long, long time ago.”

Smile too much? Too much pink? hehehe
