Hello….Debbie Pelt? Really??

The black-haired woman I’d pegged for Debbie was wearing a gold silk blouse and skintight brown leather pants, with boots…
..Her own straight black hair had been cut in asymmetrical clumps, tiny locks of different lengths, making her look a little like a dog in a very good show, maybe an Afghan. Her narrow face increased the resemblance.
Club Dead

And from that, somehow we are getting…this.

Isn’t she…..what’s the word I’m looking for here?

Cute?

Yes, that’s it. She’s “cute”.

DEBBIE PELT IS NOT FUCKING CUTE, ALAN!

OK Alan, you did it. You shocked me. You surprised me. Actually you damn near left me speechless.

I am moving on to other news before my head implodes.

And in other news, Eric will be groping the boobs of some waitress.

[BUXOM SWEDISH SERVANT GIRL] Female, 20’s, Attractive. This servant girl is seen in a flash back to 900 AD with Eric (ALEXANDER SKARSGARD). Eric kisses her passionately and fondles her breasts. ROLE HAS NO LINES AND WILL REQUIRE PARTIAL TOPLESS NUDITY

I have no issue with Eric having sex scenes with random women. He is a vampire and that’s what vampires do. I have no issue with them setting Eric up to be a player, even in life, because he is. He’s not attached to anyone and he’s hot as hell so he’s allowed to be.

So fine, play this up but can we please see something redeeming about him? Would it kill them to throw us a bone here?

True Blood Casting Call – Calling Papa Skars!

A new casting call is out for Episode 5 – “Trouble”.

From Spoiler TV

[ULFRICK] In his 40s to 50s.. warm, a battle-scarred Swedish Viking king, he is Eric’s (Alex Skarsgård) father, seen in a flashback to 900 A.D. Though they have a good relationship, there is some tension between father and son, because Ulfrick wants Eric to learn responsibility and behave in a manner befitting royalty…GUEST STAR (47)

[COLONEL JOHN FLOOD] In his 50s to 60s.. self-assured, dressed like a golfer with a military haircut, he is a Wolf Pack Leader. He doesn’t respond the way Sookie and Alcide expect to recent events.sptv050769..GUEST STAR (27)

[ASTRID] In her 30s, warm, a Swedish Viking queen with a new baby, she is Eric’s (Alex Skarsgård) mother, seen in a flashback to 900 A.D…GUEST STAR (47)

[SUMMER] In her early 20s, super positive, she’s a nice girl from Hoyt’s church who’s attracted to Hoyt in a chaste way…2 lines, 1 scene (37)

So Eric is royalty now. Whatever. And in need of professional help for all the flashbacks he’s going to be having, apparently.

OK, HBO people this is what you need to do.

Find this man, throw some furs and shit on him, and GET HIM ON THIS SHOW.

Lafayette’s New Boy Toy

The role of Jesus Velasquez, Lafayette’s new “love interest” for season three has been cast.

The part has gone to Kevin Alejandro – who has previously been seen in Weeds (one of my favourite shows) and Ugly Betty.

The casting call for Jesus Velasquez:

An attractive Latino orderly in his 20s to 30s. We come to learn he is a gay, Latino, attractive orderly! He’s feeding Ruby Jean at her care facility. As good-natured as he is handsome, he takes his demented patient’s racist gibes in stride.

Ruby Jean would be Lafayette’s formerly dead mother. I hope they provide an explanation for this but I won’t hold my breath…

So what do you think? Can you see this guy having sexy times with Lafayette? True Blood desperately needs some man action. Personally I would prefer some Eric/Laf sexy times but I won’t bore you all with that again. If Ball won’t give me that, then I guess I can settle for this.

What? I told you already, I am a dirty perv!

New Interview with Joe Manganiello on Alcide

I have to admit – my first reaction to the casting of Joe Manganiello as Alcide Herveaux was a loud and resounding WTF?!

He doesn’t look much like Alcide to me – I still can’t get over the beady brown eyes that are supposed to be big and green. And a cursory search on YouTube to see him actually act didn’t do much to reassure me either…

However.

He’s just done an interview with Ausiello, and I have to admit…I’m warming to the warm blooded were. As well as sounding like a pretty good guy, he talks about his long-held fascination with werewolves and the supernatural:

When I was a little kid, the nun at my elementary school said if you pray for something hard enough, it’ll happen. And I would pray every day with all of my heart that God would turn me into a werewolf.

I guess he just got his wish.

I just loved Halloween. When I was 4, my mother dressed me up as a vampire and brought me to a haunted house. When I think about it now, bringing a 4-year-old kid to a haunted house is pretty intense. There was a vampire in the haunted house that jumped out of a coffin and I went up and tried to climb into the coffin with him. He wound up picking me up and putting me in the coffin with him and closing the lid. I [just] always liked monsters. There was something interesting about having this thing inside of you that you can’t control that comes out when you get angry. There’s something cathartic about the idea of having a beast inside you.

While he doesn’t mention that he’s read the books, he does hint that bookies will be pleased [at least until Ball decides to fuck him up]

Q: Will your Alcide be different from the Alcide in the books?
A: Alan Ball and I had a conversation about that at one of my auditions. I think it’s up in the air. I know that, at least initially, fans of the book will be pleased with my character.

It also sounds as though Alcide and Sookie’s first meeting will occur under the same circumstances as it did in Club Dead – with Alcide arriving on her doorstep, presumably sent by Eric, to help her find Bill:

When Sookie first meets him, she opens the door and looks up, and then has to look up some more. So there’s this giant presence standing in the doorway with dark hair and dark features. He’s strong and protective. He comes from a construction background; his father is in the construction business. He’s heroic and romantic. I don’t think it’s a secret that he has a broken heart when he shows up. He had a really rough go of this relationship with Debbie Pelt, so there’s a lot of friction there.

It sure sounds like he has done his homework and he identifies with the character, and none of that can hurt. Casting for True Blood has tended to either nail it perfectly (Eric, Pam, Lafayette, Sam, Gran) been a complete fail (Sookie…oh dear god, Sookie) or something in between (Bill – he’s too old for the part but Moyer can act). So it remains to be seen how well they’ve done this time. For now, I’m happy to give this guy a go and see what he can do.

But I still say it should have been Henry Cavill *sulks*

Here she is – Eric’s Euro-Ho

Ok there’s a picture of her, the actress is Natasha Alam. I’ve never heard of her and don’t know what she’s done before, but it was a challenge finding an image of her fully clothed. Make of that what you will.

Can we move on now?

Let us never speak of this again.

No?

Ugh.

I HATE this character. I hate the very idea of this character. And not because Eric is going to screw her six ways from Sunday either. I’m cool with that, it’s reasonable to assume that Eric was still having sex with randoms at this point in the books – we just didn’t know about it because Sookie didn’t. The vampire has needs, I get that.

I hate this character because they’re trying to pacify us. The writers and Ball think that the increased interest in Eric’s character is due to everyone wanting to see him naked. “New World in my View” – the episode which followed Sookie’s first lusty dream sequence, is the highest rating episode of True Blood to date. Viewers tuned in to see more of what they got the week before, and to see what would happen when Eric and Sookie left Dallas and were face to face again. We got nothing. Oh unless you count Eric playing yahtzee and talking about draining little children. After the rooftop scene we didn’t see E/S in the same scene again for the rest of the season. This was a massive fuck up, and the writers had to have been kicking themselves that they didn’t capitalise on the popularity of the E/S pairing by showing us more in the three episodes that followed. The final three episodes of S2 were written in a hurry and were still in post production up to a week before airing – rather obvious in hindsight since they were such a mess. Ball and Co screwed up the end of season two royally. So in comes Euro-Ho in the first episode of the new season – a cheap plot device to give the writers an excuse to get ASkars clothes off again. Ball and even Alexander have been talking up Naked Eric for weeks.

Fuck you Alan Ball.

I am not a teenager. I am, in fact well past being a teenager. And I really resent being told that my interest in Eric must only be based on sexual infatuation. Yes, the man is pretty. God DAMN he is pretty. That gets my attention – but it takes more than that to keep it.

I keep watching Ball mangle this story in an increasingly vain hope that he will eventually tell it in a way that will honour Eric and Sookie’s arc. I don’t care if that means we don’t get to see ASkars bare arse for another three seasons. What I want to see on this show is an Eric with some semblance of a sense of humour, and Sookie not acting like she wants to punch him in the face every time they’re in the same room. Fuck, at this point I just want to see them in the same room.

The very foundations of their relationship are being eroded by an accumulation of little things. They’re all starting to add up to make Eric unredeemable in Sookie’s eyes. It pisses me off because that’s meant to be how BILL’s character evolves, not Eric’s.

And on that note, I’m sure that Natasha Alam is a very nice lady.

ABOUT SOOKIEVERSE

My ramblings on the Sookie Stackhouse books, and the HBO series True Blood. Everyone I know is already half crazed with my plot and character assassinations, conspiracy theories, theme explorations and general obsessing, so now I'm going to share it all with you.
