Gratuitous Supernatural Nudity

There are no words.

For two days now, I have been taunted by rumors of an open-robed Eric appearing in a new promo. I have hunted high and low for this promo and it appears HBO have just released it online…while I’m trying to get a post up, here are some stills from askarsswedishmeatballs.

This damn thing should be high rotation on HBO, what the fuck is WRONG with them?

I would sit in front of my TV for six hours straight without a pee break to see this.

And in other True Blood naked man meat news, @JoeManganiello tweeted this last night. Apparently there was an article with it but I found it hard to summon up much interest in reading anything with this in my face.

It is here if you’d like to try your luck.

I gotta tell you, I was not feeling this guy for Alcide at all when he was cast, and I’m reserving my opinion until I see him in the role.

But HOLY MOTHER OF GOD he is HOT.

I demand a face off between Eric and Alcide in season 3. I DEMAND IT.

Joe Manganiello talks about Alcide

Joe Manganiello has given an indepth interview to Fancast in which he gives away a few details about Alcide’s story in season 3 of True Blood.

A few highlights:

How close is the TV version to the character that is in the books?
He’s pretty close as far as the description goes. He’s brought by Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) to bodyguard Sookie because Bill’s (Stephen Moyer) been kidnapped and Sookie believes that werewolves have some information to his whereabouts. So Alcide is brought in after his father’s death to escort Sookie into the underground society of werewolves.

Are the two of them going to get romantic?
All I can say is that bonding happens. They bond.

Tell me more about Alcide’s storyline.
Vampires and werewolves don’t like each other. The terms to which Alicide is summoned, he has to show up against his will. He’s just a guy who wants to live his life and doesn’t want to get wrapped up in all this, but as more and more of the plot unfolds, Alcide hits the point where he winds up seeing some things and finding out some things are going on that he can’t walk away from. Basically the fact of the matter is he’s forced into it because of his father’s death.

Can you give us a preview of some exciting scenes?
People are going to lose their minds. One of the highlights of my week was getting those scripts. There’s going to be a lot of blood this year. They’re going to explain a lot of things that the fans wanted explained.

OH REALLY? Let’s hope so.

Aside from the fact that Alcide’s father is already dead when we meet him, it appears his backstory and general storyline are reasonably close to the books.

I have a feeling he won’t be hanging around for as long as he has in the SVM though – and I’m not losing too much sleep over that.

You can read the full interview HERE.

First Look at Alcide

This scan of Sookie and Alcide from EW magazine has just gone up on Twitter.

Not sure about the facial hair – I guess it kind of works for a wolf though.

New Interview with Joe Manganiello on Alcide

I have to admit – my first reaction to the casting of Joe Manganiello as Alcide Herveaux was a loud and resounding WTF?!

He doesn’t look much like Alcide to me – I still can’t get over the beady brown eyes that are supposed to be big and green. And a cursory search on YouTube to see him actually act didn’t do much to reassure me either…

However.

He’s just done an interview with Ausiello, and I have to admit…I’m warming to the warm blooded were. As well as sounding like a pretty good guy, he talks about his long-held fascination with werewolves and the supernatural:

When I was a little kid, the nun at my elementary school said if you pray for something hard enough, it’ll happen. And I would pray every day with all of my heart that God would turn me into a werewolf.

I guess he just got his wish.

I just loved Halloween. When I was 4, my mother dressed me up as a vampire and brought me to a haunted house. When I think about it now, bringing a 4-year-old kid to a haunted house is pretty intense. There was a vampire in the haunted house that jumped out of a coffin and I went up and tried to climb into the coffin with him. He wound up picking me up and putting me in the coffin with him and closing the lid. I [just] always liked monsters. There was something interesting about having this thing inside of you that you can’t control that comes out when you get angry. There’s something cathartic about the idea of having a beast inside you.

While he doesn’t mention that he’s read the books, he does hint that bookies will be pleased [at least until Ball decides to fuck him up]

Q: Will your Alcide be different from the Alcide in the books?
A: Alan Ball and I had a conversation about that at one of my auditions. I think it’s up in the air. I know that, at least initially, fans of the book will be pleased with my character.

It also sounds as though Alcide and Sookie’s first meeting will occur under the same circumstances as it did in Club Dead – with Alcide arriving on her doorstep, presumably sent by Eric, to help her find Bill:

When Sookie first meets him, she opens the door and looks up, and then has to look up some more. So there’s this giant presence standing in the doorway with dark hair and dark features. He’s strong and protective. He comes from a construction background; his father is in the construction business. He’s heroic and romantic. I don’t think it’s a secret that he has a broken heart when he shows up. He had a really rough go of this relationship with Debbie Pelt, so there’s a lot of friction there.

It sure sounds like he has done his homework and he identifies with the character, and none of that can hurt. Casting for True Blood has tended to either nail it perfectly (Eric, Pam, Lafayette, Sam, Gran) been a complete fail (Sookie…oh dear god, Sookie) or something in between (Bill – he’s too old for the part but Moyer can act). So it remains to be seen how well they’ve done this time. For now, I’m happy to give this guy a go and see what he can do.

But I still say it should have been Henry Cavill *sulks*

True Blood – Meet Alcide

Well that was quick! The call went out on Friday, with an announcement already that One Tree Hill actor Joe Manganiello is to play Alcide.

What do you think?

I’m kind of meh. Alcide had a kind of earnestness about him and I don’t feel that with Joe. He looks shifty. I can’t recall seeing him act in anything though so I guess I’ll have a look on YouTube before I make up my mind. First impressions aren’t really enthusiastic though.

I do like that he’s 6″4. Just picturing Bill standing in between him and Eric makes me giggle, and that’s no easy feat today. I’m in a bad mood over the other big casting announcement – Massive Rant Pending so I’ll save my thoughts on that.

Calling Alcide

A casting call has finally gone out today to find an Alcide.

Leaving this a little late dontcha think? He’s supposed to appear in E03 and they’re already filming.

The casting call is….interesting.

ALCIDE: Good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent, but not what he seems. He gets along well with Sookie. There’s even an attraction between the two. Very strong recurring.

Not what he seems? I hope this is just a reference to his tendency to get furry and grow teeth. Other than that, I think Alcide was pretty much the what-you-see-is-what-you-get type. But knowing Ball he will probably end up with some nefarious agenda just to keep things “shocking”.

My pick for Alcide is Henry Cavill…he looks exactly as I picture Alcide.

Who would you guys like to see playing Sookie’s newest furry suitor?

You can stop looking now Alan, I found him.
